Abstract

Aristotle said that human being is a zoon politikon (commonly understood as "social being"). How does his/her political dimension express itself in real life within society? Since political dimension has something to do with society as a whole, thus anyone actually has a political attitude and already acts politically as far as his/her attitude and doing affect society. In this sense, being active in a political party or the party itself can be considered as a manifestation of human nature as political being, precisely because the party has society as its orientation. Political Ethic first of all wants to search and determine fundamental norms and principles of managing a society and governing a state. Every political party and government then must observe these norms and principles. They are principle of equality, principle of freedom, principle of solidarity and principle of utility. These four principles have to be followed by the state, while performing the principle of subsidiary. Furthermore the state has a duty and responsibility to accomplish social welfare and guarantee social justice. So, what is the task of political party? On one hand, maintaining all the fundamental principles and state's duties above mentioned, it has to control and influence the actual government, if it isn't part of this. On the other, it must preserve all those ethical norms while performing the state's governance, in case it holds the government or takes part of it.

Abstract

Experience - both in practical and theoretical sphere - teaches and reminds us that sexuality is a reality inseperable from humanity. It is a human reality. Such a conviction rises a consequence of a deeper understanding that the whole being and existence of human being can only be understood, realized and lived within and through the reality of human sexuality itself, namely being male or female. None is neutral. As human being, he or she must be female or male. As such - being female or male - he/she is an image of God who are love. This implies that sexuality as a human reality is a call towards love.

Abstract

The term incarnation is used to illustrate how God humbled Godself by tranforming Himself into a human being like the believers so they can comprehend the Kingdom of God. As Cristians, we are invited to actualize the Kingdom of God in our everyday life. We are called also to promote the Kingdom of God to all creatures especially those who are poor, hungry, and suffering. “Blusukan”1 as an activity conducted by a priest to go around and come in to the place that is rarely visited or not most people preferred to come is a way to realize the theology of incarnation. With this way, a priest as a shepherd meet the people and get to know them in their real situation. As Jesus - Son of God - who came among the people to save them in the incarnation, the presence of the priests through “blusukan” pastoral strategy become the spirituality of diocesan priest that was expected to answer the needs of the people so that they also experienced the salvation.

Abstract

The Apostle Paul has always had a special fascination for missionaries. Through the years several monographs on Paul’ significance for the Christian mission have been written by missionaries and missiologists. The missionary dimension of Paul’ theology has not always been recognized. For many years he was primarily regarded as the creator of dogmatic system. With the rise of the history-of-religions school he was viewed pre-eminently as a mystic. Later still the emphasis shifted to the ecclesiastical Paul. Only very gradually did biblical scholars discover that Paul was first and foremost to be understood, also in his letters, as a great missionary.

Abstract

Isu kebhinekaan atau keberagaman akhir-akhir ini diserukan kembali oleh orang-orang yang dianggap tokoh atau menokohkan diri dalam kehidupan masyarakat Indonesia. Pengangkatan kembali isu-isu tersebut bisa dimaklumi karena akhir-akhir ini tindakan-tindakan yang mengarah pada radikalisme muncul di berbagai tempat di Indonesia. Artinya, terdapatnya kelompok masyarakat yang anti kebhinekaan (tidak terang-terangan) itu pernah muncul pada masa-masa sebelumnya tetapi frekuensinya tidak sebanyak yang terjadi pada akhir-akhir ini. Bukan tidak mungkin gerakan-gerakan tersembunyi seperti itu membahayakan keutuhan negara. Tokoh panutan-kharismatis yang mengedepankan kebhinekaan demi keutuhan negara selalu dibutuhkan agar masyarakat Indonesia terbebas dari kekacauan yang disebabkan oleh sara (suku, agama dan ras).

Abstract

By secularization we mean the process by wich sectors of society and culture are detached from religious institutions and symbols. Many religious institutions (schools, hospitals) are taken over by state. Conflicts between science and religion results a gap between science, philosophy and religion. For many people the process of seculariation has been a way to secularism. By secularism we mean ateism in the name of progress and liberation of human values (Comte, Feuerbach, Marx, Nietzsche, Sartre). For christians secularization is a challenge and a way for aggiornamento. There is no rivalship between science and philosophy, between science and religion. Each of them is otonomous. The field of science is the relation among fenomena. Philosophy asks about the Ground of ‘all what is’. The world has to be recognised as the world. God has to be recognised as God. “Render to Caesar the things that are Caeser’s and to God the things that are God’s” (Lk 20:25).

Abstract

Konstitusi Dogmatik Konsili Vatikan II, Lumen Gentium, secara jelas menguraikan bahwa Gereja sebagai umat Allah, Israel baru adalah peziarah dan musafir yang masih dalam perjalanan, belum sampai ke tempat tujuan yang definitif. Gereja masih harus berjuang untuk mencapai kota abadi. Statusnya sebagai peziarah dan musafir yang masih dalam perjalanan dan belum sampai pada tujuan final, mengharuskan Gereja untuk senantiasa membaharui diri, mengevaluasi diri, dan melakukan pertobatan terus-menerus, baik dalam ajaran maupun dalam hidup, untuk dapat semakin mendekati pendirinya, yakni Yesus Kristus, Sang Guru.

Abstract

“Berpikir global dan bertindak lokal!” merupakan seruan ekologis yang perluditidaklanjuti dan direalisasikan. Dalam hidup nyata setiap hari di tempatnyadan di waktu sekarang umat Kristen bersama dengan masyarakat dipanggilberpartisipasi memelihara karya Allah yang nyata di bumi dan isinya.Kekayaan dan keindahan bumi sangat terbuka untuk kegiatan bisnispariwisata. Badan Pelaksanaan Otorita Danau Toba (BPODT) sedangmerancang Danau Toba sebagai belahan bumi yang indah menjadi tujuanpariwisata. Masyarakat Batak-Toba yang mayoritas tinggal di sekitar DanauToba memiliki budaya dan tradisi religius. Suku Batak-Toba memiliki kisahpenciptaan yang sangat khas, dan nilai yang ada dalam kisah penciptaantersebut tersebar di tata budaya dan tindakan religi yang bermuatan kelestarian kekayaan alam. Masyarakat sekitar Danau Toba dipanggil agar giat berperan memelihara lingkungan serta melestarikan budaya dan tradisi religi yang sungguh bermakna bagi banyak orang. Kegiatan pengembangan ekonomi pariwisata seharusnya menghargai nilai budaya dan kekayaan religi yang ada, serta mendukung masyarakat setempat dan orang yang berkunjung untuk mengalami dan mengungkapkan bahwa Allah hadir sini bersama ciptaan-Nya.

Abstract

Kehidupan semi-nomaden di padang gurun membentuk bangsa Israel peka terhadap keadilan sosial. Kepedulian terhadap keadilan sosial itu berangsur-angsur luntur bersamaan dengan menetapnya bangsa itu di tanah Kanaan. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah kerakusan tuan-tuan tanah dan penyalahgunaan kuasa para penguasa yang mau meraup keuntungan pribadi. Akibatnya terjadi kekerasan dan penindasan terhadap orang-orang lemah, terbentang jurang antara orang kayamiskin dan ketidakadilan sosial. Kenyataan inilah yang mendorong para nabi Israel melontarkan kritik sosial bagi bangsanya. Berpedoman pada masyarakat perjanjian (Ul 12-26) Nabi Amos mencelapemanipulasian perkara pengadilan dengan uang suap untuk memeras orang miskin. Nabi Yesaya mengkritik para pemimpin Yerusalem dan penduduknya yang sudah menjadi sundal atau kehilangan keadilan dan kebenaran. Nabi Mikha mengecam para penguasa Yehuda yang membenci keadilan dan nabi-nabi palsunya yang menyesatkan. Nabi Zefanya mencela penduduk Yehuda yang berlaku tidak adil, para pemimpin dan hakim-hakim yang tidak membela rakyat dan para imam yang mencemarkan ibadat. Nabi Yeremia mengritik bahwa  kepercayaan kepada TUHAN yang tinggal bersama umat-Nya di Bait- Nya adalah sia-sia bila tidak dibarengi pertobatan dan tindak keadilan. Nabi Yehezkiel mengecam para pemimpin Yehuda yang memeras dan membiarkan rakyatnya tersesat serta menuduhkan kejahatan sosial dan keagamaan pada rakyatnya. Nabi Obaja mengutuk kejahatan bangsa Edom yang bertindak kejam dan merampas tanah dari sisa-sisa penduduk Yehuda buangan serta memperbudak mereka. Nabi Zakharia menuduh dan mengingatkan bahwa pertobatan tidak cukup dengan menyelesaikan pembangunan kembali Bait Allah saja, tetapi harus dibarengi dengan hidup dalam kebenaran, kebaikan dan keadilan. Nabi Yoel mengecam dan menubuatkan hukuman terhadap musuh-musuh Israel (Tirus, Sidon dan Filistin) atas kejahatan mereka yang merampas tanah dan perkakas Bait Allah serta memperjualbelikan bangsa Israel sebagai budak.

Abstract

“What is in a name?” William Shakespear wrote in his famous story Romeo and Juliet. Dragged out of its context, the saying seems to show insignificancy of a name. Is a name mere an arbitrary appellation for something or someone without any meaning inside? Before Shakespear, Cicero told us that “Nomen est omen!” Name, accordingly, is sign, augury, prognostication, prediction. If it’s so, a name, therefore, contains something beyond. It signifies something. In this regard I agree with Cicero, bearing in mind that a name “conceals” something else, be it hope, mission, essence or anything else. The Faculty of Philosophy of the Catholic University, St. Thomas – Medan (Philosophical and Theological High School, St. John – Pematangsiantar), picks up ‘Logos’ as the name of its scientific magazine. What is the idea lying behind this choice? To what extend does the name bear its ‘omen’? This simple article tries to deal with the question to account for the name, Logos. This presentation is a descriptive one.
