Abstract

A map setting and identification of the Toba-Batak in North Sumatra would be appropriate before dealing with the theme of inculturation among the Toba-Batak. In addition a short treatise on their inculturation experience, after an overwhelming conversion to Christianity since 19th century would be well to have a logic of inculturation exposition. It is not only experience, but most of all we desire a theological foundation, as it is exposed in the Vatican Council II, especially in the document Ad Gentes.

Abstract

St. Thomas Aquinas defines virtue as a good habit bearing on activity or a good faculty-habit (habitus operativus bonus). He adopts his idea from Aristoteles’ opinion. Aristoteles defines it as mean (mesotes) between two vices. Basic to the concept of virtue is the element of habit, which stands in a special relation to the soul, whether in the natural order or elevated to the divine life by grace (moral virtues and theological virtues). Back to virtue is a calling, so that people in our era is consistent in committing good acts.

Abstract

It is understandable, that many religious people are so offended by theviolence of God as expressed, for example, in the notion of God warriorof war, of God as angry, the notion of hell; that they are troubled inreading or praying the psalms, or the Bible. These notions are quitecontrary to the idea of God in the New Testament as the CompassionateGod, the Loving One, the Ever Forgiving God, The God-Father whoalways wait for His lost-children to return home, etc. How one couldperceive violence throughout the Bible related to God? Does God havetwo-fold faces ? The Good One and the Violent One ?

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Proclamation is the permanent priority of mission. Church cannot elude Christ's explicit mandate, nor deprive men and women of the "Good News" about their being loved and saved by God. The unity of the human race and the universal salvific will of God, as expressed in the single divine origin and the single divine goal, are the foundations of the relationship between the Church and non-Christian religions. Church on earth is not equivalent to the Kingdom of God. However the risen Lord sent the Holy Spirit to the Church, the spiritual and salvific forces of the Kingdom are present in the Church and throughout the Church then brings about devine salvation in the world.

Abstract

Human being is a historical being. In the history the details of life and their struggle is expressed. For the people who believe in God, faith is a fundamental part in their life. The faith is experienced in the history and therefore the faithful see the history as an implementation of divine providence. Accordingly, explaining the history is an important task. The writers of the ancient history use the literary genres such as historiography, chronography and biography. In ancient christianity, the historical writers give a new meaning to the existing literatures. Their authority is not based on the divine inspiration but on the truth about salvific eschatological event. Eusebius is one of the pioneers of the ecclesiastical historiography. In the history of the Church it is the Divine Providence who guides and decides the course of all events to their ultimate purpose namely to prepare the Kingdom of God. Thus the history of the Church is a divine-spiritual history. Nowadays, the influence of Greek and Roman philosophers and famous writers is well observed especially in political theology. This new history is presented with the documentation which was unusual for the history of politics, but which was common in polemical works and biography.

Abstract

John Henry Newman is an outstanding pupil. He had a great desire for knowledge, falls in love with music, poem and expressed his thought in speech and writing, always ready for wonder, wholly-hearted and entirely ready to the call of everything around him, loved solitude, and ready to seek the Lord will provide in every changes in the external circumstances of life. For Newman, Evangelical teaching had been a great blessing for England and had led him to a spiritual life. Together with his knowledge of the doctrine of Calvinism and Catholic delivered Newman in a big conflict of his mind in one side, but in another side he looked it as a source of a personal encounter with God. Since the first conversions of 1816, Newman who has a sharp consciousness of the realities of the world beyond knew that he was powerless without Divine assistance.
