Abstract

This article aims to discuss the role of ASEAN in dealing with the humanitarian crisis after the 2021 coup in Myanmar through the ASEAN Five Point Consensus agreement. The discussion is carried out using the concept of ASEAN as an intergovernmental organization and a qualitative descriptive research method with primary and secondary sources from literature studies. The results of the study show that ASEAN has carried out its role as a regional organization, one of which has produced a consensus, namely the ASEAN Five Point Consensus in dealing with the situation in Myanmar. However, ASEAN experienced obstacles because the Myanmar military junta regime did not show good faith in respecting the points of agreement, making it difficult for ASEAN to play a role in resolving the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar. In conclusion, ASEAN has carried out its role as a regional organization as theorized, except for forcing its members to comply with set rules.

Abstract

This article aims to describe how the values and views of feminism move in the Pacific Islands region to build peace. The concept of feminism in peacebuilding is used in qualitative research, as well as in library studies. The results of the study show that the implementation of feminist values in the women's movement in building peace in the Pacific Islands region arises due to the high number of problems women face due to inequality in conflict and everyday life. The application of feminism in peacebuilding in the Pacific Islands region is carried out alongside the traditional view of women held by Pacific Islanders, departing from the majority of movements in the Pacific region that do the same thing instead of shifting existing values. However, the biggest unresolved problem is the lack of representation of women in the legislatures of Pacific Island countries, which has encouraged the feminist movement in peacebuilding to focus on the regional level.

Abstract

Abstract This paper seeks to understand why the Indonesian Navy is utilized as an instrument of diplomacy rather than as war fighters in the South China Sea. The disputes create a threat to Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Historically Indonesia has responded with the use of force in similar situations, however, this is not the case in the South China Sea Disputes. The qualitative method is used in this research in understanding and analyzing the data which is gathered from secondary sources. The theoretical framework used for this research is the national attribute and international system levels of analysis which posits that domestic and international conditions create constraints that affect foreign policy. The research finds that there are several conditions that constrain Indonesia’s response options in the South China Sea disputes and concludes that these constrains cause Indonesia to utilize her navy for diplomacy rather than battle.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the practice of mail order bride in Indonesia, a practice that involves the choice of Indonesian women who are below the poverty line. Using qualitative methods with secondary data sources and adopting liberal feminist theory, the findings of the analysis show that women involved in this practice tend to be influenced by economic conditions, patriarchal stigma, and lack of access to education. Despite the Indonesian government's efforts through collaboration with women's protection organizations, the complexity of the challenges faced by Indonesian women indicates the need for more concrete and comprehensive measures. Therefore, in order to confront this practice, the Government of Indonesia needs to strengthen the policies that address the root causes of the poverty line among women involved in mail order bride, and ensure equitable welfare for women across Indonesia.

Abstract

This research explains efforts to increase the competitiveness of eco-products in the Asia-Pacific region through the implementation of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for processed forest products in the Asia-Pacific. A descriptive qualitative research method of literature study, as well as a pluralism approach and an international private regime perspective were used. The research results show that FSC offers a reliable solution for sustainable forest management through the implementation of two certifications, namely Chain of Custody (COC-FSC) and Forest Management (FM-FSC) which can help all interest groups to convince consumers that their production comes from processed wood. sourced from forests that are responsible both from an environmental, economic and social perspective. This FSC certification can increase the competitiveness of eco-products in the Asia-Pacific region

Abstract

This research examines Greenpeace's activism in encouraging the Shell company to contribute to the 2015 Paris Agreement, and the power of Greenpeace as an INGO in that case. Through the concept of the main function of non-governmental organizations according to Glasius, Kaldor, and Anheier as an analytical tool as well as the concept of the power of non-governmental organizations according to Boström & Hallström. This research is described using descriptive and qualitative methods, as well as documentation studies which produce the argument that Greenpeace carries out its function as activism which acts as an "alarm" for the global corporation Shell to contribute to the 2015 Paris Agreement. In its advocacy efforts to sue Shell, Greenpeace achieved victory over collective demands. The alliance, in this case, cannot be separated from the power possessed by Greenpeace as an NGO, namely symbolic power, social power, cognitive power and supervisory power
