Abstract

This research aims to analyze Indonesia's public diplomacy to show its commitment to supporting Timor Leste's full membership in ASEAN. Using a qualitative research approach and library study methods whose data sources are obtained through online media, books and scientific articles. This research uses the concept of public diplomacy using the communication process carried out by the government to the international community. The results of this research show that Indonesia, as one of the countries that supports and encourages Timor Leste to become a member of ASEAN, continues to make efforts, one of which is through public diplomacy. Indonesia's public diplomacy to support Timor Leste's full membership in ASEAN was carried out through grant assistance from Indonesia to the Timor Leste government in the form of capacity building activities and cultural or artistic activities at the ASEAN Summit during the period of Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN

Abstract

This article aims to describe efforts to deal with HIV/AIDS in Indonesia through collaboration between The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Indonesian Government in the 2017-2020 Indonesia Country Program. The method used in this research is a qualitative method and literature study as a data collection technique. Meanwhile, international organization theory and the concept of Human Security are used as theoretical foundations. The results of this research indicate that efforts to control HIV/AIDS in Indonesia by the Indonesian Government in collaboration with UNODC are the right steps, considering that HIV/AIDS is a disease that has an impact on human health security. UNODC assists Indonesia in achieving its goals and interests through the Indonesia Country Program by designing a systematic work plan to discuss and contribute to the creation of a National Action Plan (RAN) to overcome the spread of HIV/AIDS among prisoners and convicts in Indonesia

Abstract

This paper analyzes the impact of entrepreneur and public figure Elon Musk on the 2022 Russia-Ukraine conflict. Through the use of social network theory and the concept of Popularity, this research shows that although Musk was not an official state actor, he played a significant role in the conflict. His global popularity and extensive connections to both sides of the conflict enabled him to influence the government, media, and public. His actions and statements, such as providing Ukraine with Starlink Internet access and proposing a controversial peace plan, had a visible impact on the dynamics of the conflict. These findings highlight the significant role and potential influence of non-state actors in international conflicts. Non-state actors, particularly those with global reach and popularity, can shape public opinion, influence government policies, and even alter the course of conflicts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the potential that will occur from Chinese loans in the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train infrastructure project. This research uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. This paper discusses the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train project with an analysis of debt trap theory through the analysis of four main aspects that are categorized, namely: first, financial transactions occur in the form of Chinese loans with Indonesia. Second, Indonesia does not have the potential to repay its debt burden to China based on the country's foreign exchange reserves, Indonesia's GDP level against projected debt returns to China, and China's debt rating in Indonesia. Third, the construction of KCJB took place in the period 2013-2023. Based on research and analysis that has been done, it is obtained that the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train project has the potential for a debt trap from China because it meets all four aspects of the debt trap theory

Abstract

This research analyses the shift from the male gaze to the female gaze in K-pop girl groups impacted by the #MeToo movement in South Korea. The shift is marked by the thriving of women empowerment ideas by girl groups. This research uses the Transnational Advocacy Network (TAN) and postfeminism, examined using qualitative research methodology with secondary and textual analysis. This research finds that the shifting from the male gaze to the female gaze in K-pop girl groups occurred through the shift from objectification to subjectification of women, focusing on individualism, choice, and empowerment, as well as showing irony and knowingness. Therefore, the #MeToo movement has impacted the K-pop industry because the gaze has shifted, and Korean society has started to accept idols supporting women's empowerment and gender equality

Abstract

The entrance of President Tsai Ing-Wen’s party, the DPP, into power marked a shift in Taiwan’s attitude towards China. This comes as a response to China’s increasingly threatening rhetoric and incursion on Taiwan’s de facto sovereignty in the latter half of the 2010s. Taiwan’s military chief during Tsai’s presidency, Admiral Lee Hsi-Min, introduced the Overall Defense Concept (ODC) during his tenure as the basis for reform in the armed forces posture. The introduction of ODC signals the acceptance of Taiwan’s military establishment on China as the primary existential threat. We analyzed the securitizing process with a version of securitization theory from Thierry Balzacq. To operationalize this theory, this paper will use a qualitative approach using literature study. We hypothesize that the change in Taiwan’s security officials' perception towards China and the adoption of ODC is caused by the increasingly aggressive approach by Beijing towards Taipei.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate how right-wing populist parties influenced post-pandemic welfare state policy shifts, particularly in family welfare, gender equality, and immigration. This research utilizes right-wing populism and welfare state regime theories. Employing a Most Similar Systems Design (MSSD) and a qualitative comparative case study approach, this research analyzes policy changes from 2020-2024 using secondary data. Findings indicate that Italy, under right-wing populist governance, adopted exclusionary policies, reinforced traditional family structures, and restricted migrant access to social benefits. Conversely, Spain’s governance expanded social protections, promoting inclusive gender policies and migrant integration. The study concludes that right-wing populism significantly shaped divergent welfare state responses in these comparable Southern European contexts.
