Abstract

This present study explains about syntactiv verb of Banjar Hulu language: Review of Grammatical Functions. Banjar Language is a language used by the people of Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau which has been neglected. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct the research of Banjar Hulu language to maintain that language especially the characteristics of verb. This study used descriptive method with data analysis focus on the form and function of verbs in sentences and relate them to distribution. The expected result of this research is the publication in unaccredited scientific journals of TKT 3. There were two findings of this study; first, transitive verb of Banjar Hulu language dominated by prefixes ma-, man-, and maN-kan. Based on these finding was found another transitive verb such ekatransitive, dwitransitive, and semitransitive. Second, intransitive verb Banjar Hulu language a lot of dominated by prefixes; ta-, ma-, and ba-.

Abstract

This research was conducted base on two interests, the interests of protecting culture especially local wisdom and the interests of protecting the environment. The importance of preserving culture, especially local wisdom, is in the effort to document fairy tales in Telayap Village, Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province. Moreover, the importance of protecting the environment is also in the effort to examine the tales that will be obtained with ecological literary theory. The community of Telayap Village, Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province has not been well documented and is assumed to have a lot of environmental content. Therefore, this research was a form of manifestation of preserving local culture and preserving the environment at the same time. Fairy tales need good documentation so that they are not extinct or not recognized as belonging to other nations. Behind their simple form, fairy tales can actually teach many good things to shape one's character, including shaping environmental character. This ecological literary theory tries to answer the relationship of literature with its environment. Not many people have done research with this theory. Meanwhile, the discussion on the environment at this time is an important agenda to heighten the degradation of public awareness in protecting and preserving the environment. This also shows that this research has implications for character in education. The formulation of the problem in this study were: (1) What are the fables contained in the Telayap Kelurahan community, Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau? and (2) What is the ecological literature in the fairy tales of the Telayap Village, Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau? The theory used to study ecological literature is Garrard's theory (in Endraswara, 2016) regarding the six concepts of ecological literature which include (1) pollution; (2) wilderness; (3) disaster; (4) housing / residence; (5) animals; and (6) earth. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. The research located in Telayap Village, Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province. Research data sources were informants selected based on qualitative research informant determination techniques. Data collection techniques included observation techniques, recording techniques, conversational skills, and collaboration techniques. Data analysis techniques are based on Miles and Huberman's interactive techniques. The results of this study indicated that the tales of the Telayap community contain the whole concept of ecological literature according to Garrard. The concept includes pollution, wilderness, disaster, housing/ shelter, animals, and the earth. The concept that often arises is the concept of housing/shelter, animals, and earth and the least is the concept of disaster.

Abstract

Interpersonal verbal communication will run fluently, if there is a continuity of the propositions spoken. Well-connection is a manifestation of the understanding between speaker and listener; understanding of information from utterances. This study examined the types of presupposition that appear in the speech of prosecutor with a witness in the Domestic Court of IA class, Pekanbaru. The classification of types of presupposition refers Yule’s theory in 1996. This research was descriptive study. To answer the research questions, data was collected through all the speeches of the prosecutor and witnesses during submission of witnesses in criminal case session in the Domestic Court of IA class, Pekanbaru. The results showed that there are four types of presupposition found from prosecutors’ speeches regard to Yule’s theory. Further, two types of presupposition that do not appear in the prosecutors’ speeches. These two presuppositions are caused by all the prosecutors’ speeches are based on factual information. The most frequencies of the presupposition are structural presupposition and the rare frequencies are factual presupposition. Structural presupposition is dominant because almost of prosecutors’ speeches contain of interrogative utterances mode.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the students’ language attitudes toward Indonesian language course and its implication in higher education. This research method was a case study. The participants in this study were 92 students of Faculty of Literature at Universitas Muslim Indonesia Makassar. The data were collected by using a questionnaire technique which developed by three indicators such as loyalty attitude, pride attitude, and awareness of language norms. The data collected was analyzed statistically by using SPSS program and the results were converted into four attitude categories; very positive, positive, positive enough, and negative. The results showed that, overall, the students’ attitude toward Indonesian language was in very positive category (68% of students numbe,r). Definitely, the students’ loyalty attitude was in the very positive category (77% of students number), the pride attitude was in the very positive category (61% of students number), and students’ awareness of language norms was in a positive category (70% of students number). Furthermore, the results of this study implied to be considered to the development of teaching Indonesian language becomes more creative and innovative and the development of qualified coursebook of Indonesian Language in higher education which suitable with current development.

Abstract

Quiz is one of the assessment items that can be addressed to the students. Technological development helps its distribution and assessment quickly. One of the media that can be used is called kahoots. Through the utilization of kahoots, it can be described the students’ motivation in learning to take the Indonesian language discourse quiz. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. The sample of this study was 2017A batch of students with 34 participants. This study used a motivational questionnaire that was made in the form of a checklist with an assessment range of 1 to 5 to describe students' learning motivation in taking quizzes related to Indonesian discourse theory. After collecting the data, 30% of the lower group was calssified as a learning group that had a low level of motivation, meanwhile, 30% of the upper group was categorized as a group that had a high level of motivation. In analyzing the data, this study followed the stages which were identifying, changing the value of categories into assessment scores and analyzing. The result of the research showed that students was highly motivated in taking the Indonesian language discourse quiz by applying kahoots and it was proven by a score which was 86%.

Abstract

Learning material is one of the crucial elements that must be considered in learning. However, learning materials used are still conventional in the form of hardcopy and softcopy, so students are reluctant to read. Specifically, in the English for office course, simple and practical learning material is needed so that they can support both theory and practice. Related to this problem, the purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of android-based learning material on learning achomplisment and its effectiveness of the implementation of android-based learning materials in improving learning outcomes. The study was conducted at Universitas Islam Riau on students who took English for office courses. Through random sampling techniques determined the sample of the experimental class and the control class. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test distribution in the two sample classes. Based on several stages of data analysis, the data is normally distributed and the data variants are homogeneous. Furthermore, paired sample t-test, showing a significance value of 0.039 <0.05, it can be concluded that there are differences in the average learning outcomes for pre-test and post-test in the classes taught by applying android-based learningg materials. While the N-Gain score test revealed that the implementation of android-based learning material was quite effective to improve learning outcomes with a value of 63.00%. So it can be concluded that, there is an influence and quite effective android-based learning materials on learning achomplisment.

Abstract

This study focuses on written literacy in form of scientific writing as one of college tridharma. Lack of interest in reading, has attracted the attention of the people to establish literacy communities that aims to spread literacy early on. Someone is able to write scientifically if he/she read a lot of literature such scientific article or journal as an information resources but many people who write without basis by doing plagiarism. This study used library research with descriptive design and literature approach as data collection technique. The results of this research were: 1) Reflections on reading and writing interest, 2) Alternative of plagiarism among students, 3) Recovery of scientific writing in accordance with EYD or EBI rules.

Abstract

This research was related to the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education in determining the type of sentence. It was conducted because obstacles were still found such as students could not distinguish simple items related to the type of sentence, especially in terms of the number of clauses and syntactic forms. The problems in this research were; (1) how was the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence based on the number of clauses?; (2) how was the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence based on the syntactic form?. Thus, this research aimed to find, analyze, describe, and conclude the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining sentence types based on the number of classes and their syntactical forms. The population in this research was all fourth semester that consist of 149 students and the sample was 15%, namely 22 students. Data collection techniques included observation and questionnaire. The theory used refers to the opinion expressed by Alwi, et al (2003) and other expert opinions. Based on the analysis conducted it can be concluded that; (1) The ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence on the number of clauses based on the students’ average test score was 81.36 which was categorized “excellent”; and (2) The ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence on the syntactic form based on students’ average test score was 79.31 which was categorized “good”.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the construction and how the formation pattern of serial verbs in Batak Toba language through X-bar theory. A qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques using note-taking and interview techniques was used. Data were collected from interviews with native speakers and the text of Toba Batak language almanac. In analyzing the data, a method of distribution was employed. The results showed that the formation pattern of serial verbs in the Batak Toba language consisted of 4 types namely which were [transitive V1+ transitive V2], [transitive V1+intransitive V2], [intransitive V1+ transitive V2], and [intransitive V1 + intransitive V2]. The first type, [transitive V1+ transitive V2] is formed from the predicate that followed by the object + the predicate and followed by the object. The next formation, [V1 transitive + V2 intransitive] is formed from predicates followed by object + predicates and not followed by the object. The later type, [V1 intransitive + V2 transitive] is formed from predicates that not followed by object + predicates and followed by an object. Further, the last type, [intransitive V1 + V2] is formed from a predicate not followed by an object + a predicate and not followed by an object.

Abstract

Tunjuk Ajar Melayu (TAM) is very important for Malay people, especially in the past trying after all their power to disseminate, bequeath and perpetuate the teaching values ​​referred to through literature (both oral and written). Understanding and living a literary work, one of which is through the study of stylistics. Stylistics as one of the sub-sciences in literature plays a large role in the study of literature because it examines the way the writer uses elements and language rules by looking for the effects caused by the use of language, examining the characteristics of the use of language in literature. Stylistics studied the use of the figure of speeches in its function. In this study, the researcher formulated the research problems, what was the comparative and linkage figure of speeches in TAM by Tenas Effendy?. Therefore, this research was conducted to describe, analyze, and interpret the comparative and linkage figure of speeches contained in TAM by Tenas Effendy. This research used the content analysis method. The data was collected through documentation and hermeneutic techniques. The data was documented by reading, taking notes, then summarizing and grouping according to the type of work. The results of this study were comparative figure of speeches in TAM by Tenas Effendy consisting of simile, personification, metaphor, and allegory. The linkage figure of speech in TAM by Tenas Efendy consisted of synecdoche figure of speech of tutom pro parte category.
