Abstract

Jawa Randu goats are one of the local livestock breeds with considerable potential for milk production; however, both productivity and milk quality are highly influenced by feeding factors. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Indigofera zollingeriana supplementation on milk production and quality of Jawa Randu goats in Kalukku District, West Sulawesi, Indonesia. The experiment was conducted from January to February 2026 using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and five replications, involving a total of 15 goats. The treatments consisted of P1 (Pakchong Napier grass + 10% Indigofera zollingeriana), P2 (Pakchong Napier grass + 20% Indigofera zollingeriana), and P3 (Pakchong Napier grass + 30% Indigofera zollingeriana). The observed parameters included milk production and physical quality of milk (pH, specific gravity, and viscosity). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s multiple range test. The results showed that supplementation with Indigofera zollingeriana had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on milk production of Jawa Randu goats, with the highest yield observed in treatment P2. However, the treatments did not significantly affect (P > 0.05) the physical quality of milk. The values of pH, specific gravity, and viscosity remained within normal ranges. In conclusion, the inclusion of Indigofera zollingeriana in the diet can improve milk production without adversely affecting the physical quality of milk.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the internal and external factors influencing the development of these integrated enterprises in Central Bangka Regency. The research was conducted on 21 cattle groups using a survey approach, field observations, structured interviews, and an assessment of internal and external factors. Data were analysed using the Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) and External Factor Evaluation (EFE) matrices. The results showed a total IFE score of 2.801, indicating a relatively strong internal position, with primary strengths being member motivation, land carrying capacity, and the utilization of oil palm by-products as feed. The total EFE score of 2.680 suggests a supportive external environment. Key opportunities include local government policy support, the role of extension agents, and market demand for beef, while primary threats involve rising prices of commercial feed and veterinary medicines, competition from beef supplied by other regions, and instability in local beef supply. Enterprise development should focus on strengthening capital, feed technology, institutional frameworks, and marketing systems.

Abstract

Mastitis is a major disease in dairy cattle that significantly impacts milk production and quality and causes economic losses in the livestock industry. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of clinical and subclinical mastitis and its distribution patterns in udder quarters of dairy cows at the North Bandung Cattle Breeders Cooperative (KPSBU) in Lembang, West Java. This cross-sectional study included 100 lactating Holstein Friesian dairy cows with a total of 400 udder quarters from five villages. Subclinical mastitis was detected using the California Mastitis Test (CMT), and clinical mastitis data were obtained from livestock recordings in 2025. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to calculate the prevalence and distribution patterns of diseases. The results showed that the prevalence of subclinical mastitis at the cow level was 73%, whereas that of clinical mastitis was 38.88%. At the udder quarter level, the prevalence of subclinical mastitis reached 62%, with a higher distribution in the rear quarter (66%) than in the front quarter (58%). The highest prevalence was found in the right rear quarter (70 %), followed by the left rear quarter (62 %). The distribution pattern of mastitis showed that the incidence of the disease was uneven across the udder quarters and tended to be higher in the hindquarter, especially on the right side. Furthermore, the higher prevalence of subclinical mastitis compared to clinical mastitis reflects the tip-of-the-icebergphenomenon, where most cases go undetected clinically. In conclusion, the prevalence of mastitis in dairy cows at the Lembang Dairy Farm (KPSBU) was relatively high, especially subclinical mastitis, with a dominant distribution in the rear quarter, particularly the right rear quarter. Therefore, improved milking hygiene, early detection, and udder-based control strategies are needed to reduce the incidence of mastitis and increase dairy cow productivity.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional content and phytochemical profile of a mixture of rice straw and Indigofera zollingeriana at different fermentation periods. The research was conducted in Mamuju Regency using an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments and four replications. The treatments included P0 = without fermentation (0 days), P1 = 7 days fermentation, P2 = 14 days fermentation, and P3 = 21 days fermentation. The feed mixture consisted of 70% rice straw and 30% Indigofera zollingeriana. Observed parameters included dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), crude fat, ash, nitrogen-free extract (NFE), and phytochemical compounds including tannins, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and total phenols. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s multiple range test. The results showed that fermentation duration significantly affected (P<0.05) the nutritional content and phytochemical profile of the feed mixture. Fermentation for 14 days (P2) resulted in the highest crude protein, flavonoid, saponin, alkaloid, and total phenol contents, as well as the lowest crude fiber and tannin contents compared to other treatments. Crude protein increased from 10.45% in P0 to 15.76% in P2, while crude fiber decreased from 32.56% to 26.15%. Tannin content also decreased from 2.45% to 1.88% after 14 days of fermentation. It can be concluded that 14 days of fermentation is the optimal period to improve the nutritional quality and phytochemical profile of rice straw and Indigofera zollingeriana mixture as ruminant feed.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of GDM Liquid Organic Supplement (SOC) in feed on the performance of laying quail (Coturnix japonica). The parameters observed include Hen Day Production (HDP), egg mass, feed conversion, and mortality. The study was conducted for 30 days using 400 6-month-old female laying quails. The research method used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of P0 (without SOC), P1 (SOC 0.1 % ), P2 (SOC 0.3%), P3 (SOC 0.5%), and P4 (SOC 0.7%). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that SOC administration had a significant effect (P <0.05 ) on all observed parameters. Treatment P4 ( 0.7 %) produced the best performance with a HDP value of 98.02%, an egg mass of 12.74 grams, and the lowest feed conversion of 1.66. In addition, the provision of SOC was able to reduce the mortality rate compared to the control treatment. The increase in performance is thought to be caused by the content of probiotic bacteria in SOC which is able to improve the balance of digestive tract microflora, increase nutrient digestibility, and improve feed utilization efficiency. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the use of GDM Liquid Organic Supplement at a dose of 0.5–0.7 % in feed can increase productivity and feed efficiency and reduce mortality in laying quail.

Abstract

Riung District has abundant natural resource potential in the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors, while also being an important ecosystem area that is vulnerable to damage. To date, the utilization of these commodities is often suboptimal and tends to ignore the principles of environmental sustainability due to weak local group governance. Therefore, institutional strengthening is a key factor in bridging the gap between improving community economic welfare and ecosystem sustainability. This study aims to analyze the existing condition of local institutions in the livestock sector in Riung District, as well as formulate adaptive institutional strengthening strategies to support efforts to conserve natural resources and the surrounding ecosystem. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with farmers and the local government, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Data analysis was carried out using a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis to map the internal and external factors of the institution. The results show that the existing institution (Livestock Group) still faces constraints in management capacity, limited market access, and low collective awareness of environmental conservation. The main strategies formulated include: (1) Increasing the human resource capacity of institutional administrators through training based on eco-farming and environmentally friendly fishing; (2) Integrating customary/local rules (local wisdom) into group regulations to limit the exploitation of natural resources; and (3) Creating a partnership network between local institutions with the private sector and government for value-added post-harvest management. Institutional strengthening that focuses on increasing internal capacity and implementing environmentally based regulations has proven crucial. Through strong institutions, the utilization of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products in Riung District can go hand in hand with maintaining ecosystem stability and long-term natural resource sustainability.
