Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effects of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) derived from waste materials on soil quality and the nutritional content of Napier grass grown on former oil palm plantation land. The research is motivated by the need for sustainable and environmentally friendly fertilization alternatives to improve degraded soil fertility and enhance forage quality for livestock. The methodology included chemical analysis of soil, assessment of LOF quality based on the Ministry of Agriculture standards, and evaluation of nutritional parameters in three Napier grass varieties (Bio Vit, Bio Nutrient, and Bio Grass) under four treatment levels of LOF (P0–P3). Parameters measured comprised soil and LOF pH, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) content, as well as crude protein, crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent fiber (ADF) levels in the grasses. The results indicated that the study site soil was acidic (pH 4.5) with low to very low N, P, and K levels. The applied LOF had a pH of 5 and met the required standards for N and K content but failed to meet the minimum requirement for P. Application of LOF significantly increased crude protein and reduced crude fiber, NDF, and ADF content in Napier grass, with the Bio Vit variety showing the most favorable response. Bio Nutrient exhibited stable improvement trends, while Bio Grass showed more variable outcomes, particularly in ADF levels. In conclusion, LOF application can enhance soil fertility and forage quality, particularly in marginal soils. The Bio Vit variety is recommended for its high responsiveness to LOF in improving livestock feed value.

Abstract

Improving the egg productivity and quality of local hybrid chicken is an important strategy in the development of sustainable poultry farming in Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of fermented diet enriched with local probiotics and digestive enzymes on egg production and quality of local hybrid chicken during the laying phase. The study was conducted at the Field Laboratory of Animal Husbandry, Syiah Kuala University and the Laboratory of Animal Physiology and Reproduction Teuku Umar University, using 120 chickens resulting from the crossbreeding of female ALPU and male KUB F2. The research design used a completely randomised method with 4 treatments and 5 replicates: P0 (100% commercial diet), P1 (100% fermented diet), P2 (50% fermented diet + 50% commercial diet), and P3 (30% fermented diet + 70% commercial diet). The results showed that treatment P1 had a significant effect (P<0.05) on egg production, egg weight, and egg yolk colour score. However, no significant differences were observed in clutch size, shell thickness, and egg grade. The effectiveness of fermented diet is thought to stem from improved digestibility and nutrients absorption due to the presence of probiotics and digestive enzymes. Treatments P2 and P3 showed that the result was equivalent to that of on commercial diet. Overall, fermented diet enriched with probiotic and digestive enzymes proved to be an effective to stimulate egg production and quality on local hybrid laying chickens. In addition, this findings could be an economical alternative for improving the production and quality of eggs from local hybrid chickens in the early laying phase

Abstract

The results of the research show that, in the effort to revitalize theTangghe’ bull racing culture, there must be a deliberate attempt toeliminate the stereotype of violence often associated with Karapan Sapicultural events. This can be done by discontinuing the use of rekeng (whips)and by encouraging the government to take firm action in establishingregulations that prohibit the torture and mistreatment of racing bulls.Essentially, Karapan Sapi is a traditional folk celebration held after theharvest season, not a spectacle of cruelty. The study also found that therevitalization efforts in Langsar Village should focus on preserving thesociocultural, socioeconomic, and sociopolitical aspects of the tradition. Moreover, the modern practice of Tangghe’ bull racing should not bereduced to a mere competitive sport, as this could lead to a shift in culturalvalues. The revitalization process must begin with several key stages:preparation, investigation, transformation, regulation, establishment, testing, and implementation. The results indicate a positive response fromthe local community, with the average response score of (4), meaning thatmost people agree with the idea of preserving the Tangghe’ bull racingculture without violence.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan Province. The study was conducted in October 2023. The objective was to analyze the differences in quantitative productivity between broiler farms maintained under closed and open house systems. The subjects used in the study were 180,000 broilers raised in 15 cages each, each with a population of 6,000 birds per cage. This research was conducted at the broiler partnership farm of PT Mitra Sinar Jaya. The research method used a quantitative descriptive approach, with data obtained from the maintenance records of partner farmers. The number of recordings came from 6,000 broilers per cage, with 15 replications for each type of closed house and open house. The quantitative productivity observed in this study were depletion (mortality + culling), number of birds harvested, Feed Intake (FI), average harvest body weight (ABW), Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), harvest age, cage density, and Performance Index (IP). Data were analyzed using an Independent t-test. Based on the results of the study, it shows that depletion, the number of harvested chickens, ABW, FCR, FI, broiler harvest age have no significant differences (P>0.05) between closed house and open house cages. While in quantitative productivity, cage density and IP there are differences between broilers raised with closed house and open house cage systems. From the average value there is a tendency for closed houses to be better than open houses seen from the depletion value which is better by 63 heads (174 heads vs. 237 heads); the number of harvested chickens is better by 63 heads (5826 heads vs. 5763 heads); FI is better by 0.034 (2.798 kg/head vs. 2.832 kg/head); ABW is better by 0.05 kg (1.79 kg and 1.74 kg); FCR is better by 0.068 (1.555 kg feed/kg bw vs. 1.623 kg feed/kg bw); A better cage density of 4 birds/m² (13 birds/m² vs. 9 birds/m²) and a 27-point higher Performance Index (PI) (350 vs. 323), except for the same harvest age (32 days vs. 32 days). The conclusion of this study is that the depletion value, number of birds harvested, Feed Intake (FI), ABW, FCR, and cage density of broilers using a closed house system tend to be better than those using an open house system. The success rate of broiler farming is achieved by farmers using a closed house system because the Performance Index (PI) value is higher than that of farmers using an open house system. Based on the research results, which show that closed houses tend to be 8.35% better than open houses, it is recommended that farmers using closed and open house systems improve the quality of human resources and record keeping as a basis for continuous management evaluation to achieve optimal productivity.
