Abstract

In Indonesia, approximately 10% of students have dyslexia, but it often goes undetected. Children aged 6–7 years old generally have mastered reading skills, but individuals with dyslexia face different obstacles. Suboptimal stimulation in reading, writing, and arithmetic during childhood can hinder the development of critical thinking in adolescence. This study aims to examine parents' experiences in providing support that plays a role in increasing the learning motivation of students with dyslexia. The method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews guided by Smet's theory of emotional, appreciative, instrumental, and informational support. The research subjects were two parents who have children with dyslexia at Private Elementary School X in Sidoarjo Regency. Data analysis was conducted using Strauss and Corbin's techniques, including open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, with validity testing through source triangulation. Parental support was proven to foster learning motivation in dyslexic students. Emotional support builds children's self-acceptance and self-confidence, while reward and instrumental support help create positive learning experiences and academic readiness. Informative support enriched the children's learning strategies and understanding of their condition. These efforts contributed to the development of intrinsic motivation and psychological well-being in dyslexic children. These findings emphasize the importance of holistic parental involvement in creating a conducive learning environment for the development of dyslexic children.

Abstract

The recovery process has challenges at every stage and requires a supportive and adequate program. The high number of single-use drug users in Indonesia after the COVID-19 pandemic is not supported by adequate rehabilitation services. The negative stigma attached to drug users can also hinder efforts to participate in rehabilitation programs. This study explored the recovery process of drug users without formal rehabilitation program services. The method used is a single instrumental case study with thematic analysis on individuals undergoing a 6-year recovery period. The thematic analysis found that participants progressed through the stages of change theory to achieve recovery. Despite a relapse, the participant reached the final stage. In each phase, there are crucial things that can affect the course of the recovery process. One of them is the family, which has an important role in helping drug users to recover. Further research can be conducted using other methods or approaches, and with participants who face different difficulties or challengesProses pemulihan dari ketergantungan narkoba memiliki tantangan tersendiri di setiap tahapannya, membutuhkan adanya program yang menunjang dan memadai.

Abstract

The evolution of digital technology has profoundly reconfigured patterns of interaction and the architecture of social relations within contemporary society. Nevertheless, the phenomenon of loneliness persists amidst extensive virtual connectivity. This study interrogates the roles of loneliness and interpersonal trust in shaping self-disclosure tendencies among Tinder users in early adulthood (ages 18–40). The sample comprised 100 participants selected via purposive sampling, utilizing the UCLA Loneliness Scale, Interpersonal Trust Scale, and Self-Disclosure Scale as instruments. Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that the two predictor variables exerted a significant simultaneous influence on self-disclosure (F = 17.556; p = 0.000 < 0.05), with R² = 0.328, indicating that 32.8% of the variance in self-disclosure was accounted for by the predictors. Partial analyses demonstrated significant positive effects of loneliness (β = 0.282; p = 0.004) and interpersonal trust (β = 0.205; p = 0.036), suggesting that elevated levels of loneliness and trust are concomitant with a greater propensity for online self-disclosure. Categorically, female participants exhibited higher tendencies toward self-disclosure.

Abstract

The quarter-life crisis is a phase of emotional instability and uncertainty about life direction commonly experienced by individuals in emerging adulthood. This phase is characterized by confusion regarding life goals, pressure to achieve certain milestones, and demands related to the transition toward independence, all of which may increase psychological stress and hinder adaptive functioning. These conditions highlight the need for effective and accessible psychological interventions for this age group. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of an eclectic intervention combining support group therapy and expressive writing in reducing quarter-life crisis levels among individuals in emerging adulthood. The study employed a pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design with purposive sampling. Seven participants who met the criteria for experiencing a quarter-life crisis took part in the intervention. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant difference in quarter-life crisis levels before and after the intervention (p = 0.008; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that support group therapy combined with expressive writing is effective in reducing the quarter-life crisis among emerging adults. The implications of this study emphasize that group-based eclectic interventions can serve as an alternative psychological strategy to help young adults navigate the challenges associated with the quarter-life crisis.

Abstract

The death of a father during a student’s university years is a deeply disruptive emotional experience that can undermine personal stability and significantly affect learning motivation. At this developmental stage, students are expected to manage independence and academic responsibilities, making the loss of a paternal figure likely to trigger reduced enthusiasm, concentration difficulties, and shifts in how they interpret the learning process. This study aims to explore the dynamics of learning motivation among students who experienced paternal loss by employing a qualitative phenomenological approach. Three undergraduate students aged 19–23 who lost their fathers during their studies participated in the research. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations and analyzed using thematic coding. The findings indicate meaningful changes across four motivational aspects: drive, commitment, initiative, and optimism. Initially, all participants experienced a decline in motivation characterized by sadness, decreased focus, and weakened academic goals. Over time, however, their motivation gradually rebuilt through personal reflection, family support, social responsibility, and the development of new meaning in their educational pursuits. These results imply the need for higher education institutions to provide more responsive psychological and academic support to bereaved students in order to facilitate adaptive recovery and sustain their academic engagement.

Abstract

Individuals who live in a long-distance marriage have a greater challenge to maintain their relationship, one of them in terms of loyalty to their partner. This study is a cross-sectional quantitative study that aims to see whether the dark triad personality and relationship quality affect the infidelity intention. Sampling of participants using purposive sampling and collected research participants amounted to 310people aged 21-59 who are married and are undergoing a long-distance marriage with a minimum distance of 80 Km. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis, controlling for gender, indicate that within the dark triad personality dimensions, machiavellianism has a significant negative effect on infidelity intention, while psychopathy has a significant positive effect. However, narcissism does not significantly predict infidelity intention. Furthermore, the comparative analysis reveals a significant gender difference in infidelity intention, with males exhibiting higher levels than females. These findings suggest that infidelity intention is driven by impulsivity, weak self-control, and a focus on short-term gratification. Conversely, high self-control, deliberate planning, and a long-term orientation appear to diminish such intentions

Abstract

Young adulthood is a developmental phase marked by identity exploration, career uncertainty, and future planning, which often gives rise to a quarter-life crisis. These challenges become more complex when individuals simultaneously carry dual responsibilities as part of the sandwich generation, supporting both parents and their own nuclear families. This study aims to explore the dynamics of quarter-life crisis among young adults in the sandwich generation. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, three participants aged 22–25 were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that the quarter-life crisis experienced by sandwich-generation individuals is shaped by three interrelated factors: individual factors (identity confusion, emotional exhaustion, and feelings of failure), social factors (family expectations, cultural pressures, and role-related conflicts), and economic factors (income instability, dual financial responsibilities, and unexpected expenses). The interaction of these factors creates an existential crisis characterized by feelings of being trapped, loss of direction, and postponement of personal aspirations in favor of family obligations. The study highlights the psychological vulnerability of young adults in the sandwich generation and underscores the importance of social support, emotional regulation skills, and targeted psychological interventions to help them manage role-related pressures more adaptively.

Abstract

Social workers face job challenges and emotional pressures that can potentially affect their psychological well-being. This study aims to explore the psychological well-being of social workers in local government agencies or social service foundations in Sragen Regency. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with data collection through in-depth interviews and observations of five social workers and two supporting informants. The data were analyzed systematically through data reduction, data presentation, and verification of findings to identify the main themes. The results of this study indicate that social workers show the ability to accept themselves, interpret their work as a source of meaning in life, manage work demands, and obtain social support that helps maintain their psychological well-being. These results indicate that the psychological well-being of social workers is relatively good and is influenced by personal factors, social support, and the ability to adapt to various work demands. These findings are expected to form the basis for the development of programs and policies that support the psychological well-being of social workers.

Abstract

The phenomenon of cognitive distortions in criminal behavior is increasingly gaining attention in the fields of forensic psychology and criminology. Cognitive distortions refer to irrational or deviant thought patterns that lead individuals to misinterpret reality in a way that justifies or rationalizes their behavior, including criminal acts. In the context of crime, cognitive distortions often serve as a justification mechanism, enabling offenders to perceive their criminal actions as acceptable or even warranted, despite contradicting societal norms. This study systematically reviews the role of cognitive distortions in criminal behavior, emphasizing the types of distortions, causal relationships, and implications for interventions. A systematic literature review (SLR) method is employed, synthesizing empirical studies and theories on cognitive distortions in offenders. The findings show consistent evidence that cognitive distortions such as self-serving biases and victim-blaming are associated with externalizing behaviors and criminal activity. Additionally, cultural and methodological gaps in the current research are identified, suggesting the need for longitudinal studies and cross-cultural comparisons. This research highlights the importance of early interventions targeting cognitive distortions to prevent criminal behavior, particularly in high-risk groups like adolescents.

Abstract

Coastal communities are vulnerable to the impacts of environmental change, thus requiring pro-environmental behavior that is not only influenced by knowledge and environmental conditions but also psychological factors. This study aims to determine the role of eco-anxiety and psychological well-being (PWB) on pro-environmental behavior in coastal communities in North Maluku. The method used is a quantitative approach with a correlational design, involving 117 respondents as the research sample. The questionnaire used in this study consists of three scales, namely, Larson's Pro-environmental Behavior (PEiB) scale, Hoog's Eco-Anxiety Scale (HEiAS), and Ryff's Psychological Well-Being scale. Data analysis uses multiple regression analysis. The research results show that there is a highly significant positive relationship between eico anxiety and psychological well-being (PWB) with pro-environmental behavior with a significance level of 0.008 (p < 0.01). The results of the minor hypothesis test eico anxiety with pro-environmental behavior are very significant (p = 0.006). The results of the study are expected to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the psychological factors that encourage pro-environmental behavior in coastal communities and can be a reference for designing psychological-based interventions and community-based policies in coastal environmental conservation efforts.
