Abstract

Introduction: Bebanga Village, Kalukku District recorded a stunting prevalence of 38.5%. Stunting is caused by various factors, including mothers' lack of knowledge about IYCF. Purpose: To find out the description of knowledge, attitudes, and complementary feeding practices in mothers and the nutritional status of children in the stunting locus area. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design conducted from January to May 2023 at the Stunting Locus in Bebanga Village, West Sulawesi. A total sample of 148 was calculated using proportional random sampling. Measuring the nutritional status of children uses four indicators: weight/age, height/age, weight/height, and BMI/age Results: The prevalence of stunting children in was 48.0%. As many as 51.5% of mothers had sufficient knowledge about complementary feeding, 51.4% of mothers had a negative attitude about complementary feeding, and as many as 76.4% of mothers practiced complementary feeding not according to standards. The chi-square test showed that the aspects of knowledge (p-value=0.165), attitude (p-value=0.880), and practice (p-value=0.280) of complementary feeding among mothers were not related to the incidence of stunting among children at the stunting locus area. Conclusion: Many stunted children were found among mothers with good knowledge and attitudes toward ICYF but lacked practice.

Abstract

Introduction: Trichuris trichiura, hookworms, and Ascaris lumbricoides are known as soil-transmitted helminths that commonly infect humans. Transmission is more common in areas with poor personal hygiene and environmental sanitation. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine available information on the prevalence of T. trichiura infection in school-age children in Asia. This information can be used for additional studies to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors for T. trichiura infection locally that can inform regional control programs and look at laboratory examination techniques to diagnose this parasite disease. Methods: Multiple databases (Web of Science, PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, and Google Scholar) were searched for literature on the  trichuriasis prevalence published from 2011 to January 2021. Results: A total of 13,836 studies were identified through database searches. The included studies represent 16 countries, with the highest number of study conducted in Yemen. Conclusions: The prevalence of trichuriasis in school-age children was found to vary widely by country. The Kato-Katz technique was commonly used to detect T. trichiura eggs in school-age children in Asia. Health sector should implement surveillance programs, particularly in countries with high infection prevalence. Educational programs aimed at improving personal hygiene and environmental sanitation to decrease trichuriasis transmission.

Abstract

Introduction: The high prevalence of stunting in Indonesia encourages the government to make various efforts to solve it, one of which is the stunting prevention convergence activity, where the village plays an important role. The implementation of this activity at the village level has not been maximized due to the weak support from various sectors involved in the region. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the role of local governments, professional organizations and universities in converging stunting prevention programs. Methods: This research will be carried out in 3 districts, namely Banggai Islands, Sigi, and Donggala. This type of research is an exploratory study. The samples of this research were village midwives and the heads of local government organizations in Banggai Laut, Sigi, Donggala, and Poso. Results: The role of local governments, professional organizations, and universities in convergence activities to prevent stunting is still not optimal. Conclusion: This research holds the potential to significantly impact stunting prevention efforts by shedding light on the collaborative dynamics among local governments, professional organizations, and universities. The outcomes of this study are expected to guide future interventions, fostering a more integrated and effective approach to stunting prevention at the village level, ultimately contributing to the reduction of stunting prevalence in the targeted districts.
