Abstract

The paper examines the transformation of “Jaka Tarub”, a folktale contained in Babad Tanah Jawi, into the play Jaka Tarub by Akhudiat. Jaka Tarub by Akhudiat is a two-act play that is parodic in style. The play won the 1974 Jakarta Arts Council Playwriting Competition. The aim of the paper is to study how the tale is interpreted and reconstructed into Indonesian contemporary literature. The transformation of the tale is analyzed from a new historicist perspective. The analysis suggests that the history of a nation can be read through its literature since New Historicism sees that texts and history are always, inevitably, interrelated. Based on such a perspective, there is no longer such a thing as a single absolute “historical reality”. Instead, there are always different versions and perspectives to history. Akhudiat’s reinterpretation and reconstruction of the folktale represents Indonesia in the 1970s. Seen in this light, an Indonesian literary text that reflects history can be regarded as another version of history. Thus, New Historicism offers an appropriate approach to study such a literary text because it is through a New Historicist approach to reading that realities unwritten in mainstream texts of history become accessible to the reader or audience.

Abstract

Pesantren as one of the largest and oldest Islamic education institutions in Indonesia certainly has a set of values and norms adopted by the community and maintained from time to time. One that records and documents the culture of the pesantren is literature. This study discusses literary works where pesantren culture is written. Therefore, the anthropological theory of literature is used as an analytical tool to reveal how literature records the culture of pesantren. The object of this research material is the work of Djamil Suherman; a collection of short stories of Umi Kalsum, Pejuang Kali Pepe novel, Sakerah novel and Sarip Tambak Oso novel. The data obtained in the form of words, sentences and phrases in the work are then processed and described using narrative descriptive forms. The results of the analysis show that the work of Djamil Suherman photographed the pesantren subculture in the form of traditional rituals, ethnographic or cultural elements and the way of life of the pesantren community. AbstrakPesantren sebagai salah satu lembaga pendidikan islam terbesar dan tertua di Indonesia tentunya memiliki tata aturan nilai dan norma yang dianut oleh masyarakatnya dan dijaga dari waktu ke waktu. Salah satu yang mencatat dan mendokumentasikan budaya pesantren tersebut adalah sastra. Kajian ini membahas karya sastra dimana budaya pesantren tertulis. Oleh sebab itu, teori antropologi sastra dipakai sebagai alat analisis untuk mengungkap bagaimana sastra merekam budaya pesantren. Objek material penelitian ini berupa karya Djamil Suherman yaitu kumpulan cerita pendek Umi Kalsum, novel Pejuang-Pejuang Kali Pepe, novel Sakerah dan novel Sarip Tambak Oso. Data yang diperoleh berupa kata, kalimat dan frasa dalam karya lalu diolah serta diuraikan dengan menggunakan pola penggambaran deskriptif naratif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa karya Djamil Suherman memotret subkultur pesantren yang berupa ritual tradisi, unsur-unsur etnografis atau budaya dan pandangan hidup masyarakat pesantren.

Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas tentang mekanisme pengambil-alihan giliran berbicaradalam dialog film12 Years A Slave. Tulisan ini bertujuan untukmendeskripsikan mekanisme pergantian giliran berbicara di antara tokohtokohdalam film tersebut. Di dalam mengembangkan tulisan ini, penulismerekam dan mentranskrip dialog-dialog di dalam film tersebut. Selain itupenulis juga menggunakan metode pustaka yakni melalui pembacaan bukubukuyang berkaitan dengan analisis percakapan. Penulis menganalis danmendeskripsikan data dalam 8 kelompok percakapan kemudian dibuat tabelyang memperlihatkan mekanisme pengambilalihan giliran berbicara. Teoriyang digunakan adalah gabungan antara teori analisis wacana dan analisispercakapan. Temuan dari penelitian ini adalahlebih didominasi olehSolomon, menyusul kemudian, Anne, Hamilton, Parker, Brown, Margaret,Alonzo, Moon, dan Fitzgerald. Untuk alokasi turn, hampir semua partisipanrata-rata mengambil turn/giliran dengan self-selection atau menunjuk dirisendiri sebagai pembicara. Sedangkan yang lain (Alonzo) memperolehgiliran berbicara setelah sebelumnya ditunjuk sebagai pembicara terpilih(selected speaker). Secara strategi interaksi, mekanisme turn-taking terbagike dalam tiga kelompok besar yaitu, memperoleh giliran bicara, menguasaigiliran bicara da memberi giliran bicara.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Kalimat Inversi dengan Subjek Kompleks dalam Bahasa Indonesia Ragam Jurnalistik”.  Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) mengkaji konstruksi predikat dan konstruksi subjek pada kalimat inversi dengan subjek kompleks dan (2) mengkaji perubahan struktur dari predikat-subjek menjadi subjek-predikat pada kalimat inversi dengan subjek kompleks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam bahasa Indonesia ragam jurnalistik banyak ditemukan kalimat inversi dengan subjek kompleks. Bentuk verba yang menjadi predikat pada umumnya berupa verba pasif berawalan {ter-} atau {di-}. Konstituen pengisi predikatnya ada yang berupa kata, yakni verba saja, dan ada pula yang berupa verba + adverbia dan membentuk frasa verbal. Subjek kompleks berdasarkan konstruksinya dapat berupa frasa dan dapat pula berupa klausa. Perubahan struktur dari predikat-subjek menjadi subjek-predikat pada kalimat inversi dengan subjek kompleks pada umumnya bergantung pada konstituen pengisi predikat. Jika predikat berupa verba saja, pembalikan struktur dari predikat-subjek menjadi subjek-predikat akan menghasilkan kalimat yang kurang lazim. Namun, jika predikat berupa verba + adverbia sehingga membentuk frasa verbal, pembalikan struktur dari predikat-subjek menjadi subjek-predikat akan menghasilkan kalimat yang lazim(Inversion Sentences with Complex Subject in Indonesian Language of Journalistic Variety)This research titled “Inversion Sentences with Complex Subjects in Journalistic Style-Indonesian Language.” The purposes of this study are (1) to study the construction of predicate and subject construction in inversion sentences with a complex subject, and (2) to study the change of structure of predicate-subject to subject-predicate in inversion sentence with a complex subject. The result of the research shows that sentences inversion with the complex subject is found frequently used in Journalistic Style-Indonesian Language. The form of verbs that become the predicate is generally a passive verb which beginning with {ter-} or {di-}. The constituents of predicate filler are found in the form of a word, which is verb only and also found in the form of verb + adverbs which forms verbal phrases. The complex subject based on the construction can be whether a phrase or a clause. The structural changes from predicate-subject to subject-predicate in inversion sentences with complex subjects generally depend on the constituents of predicate filler. If the predicate is only a verb, the reversal of the structure from predicate- subject to subject-predicate will form less common sentences. However, if the predicate form is verb + adverbial and creates a verbal phrase, the reversal of the structure from subject-predicate to subject-predicate will form a common sentence

Abstract

This study aims at finding local wisdom in the oral tradition of Kepulauan Riau Malay which is interpreted as transitivity through processes, participants, and circumstance. This is a qualitative research with descriptive statistics. Data collection applies the method of observation attentively, referring to Uninvolved Conversation Observation technique and Note Taking techniques. The transitivity analysis method uses a combination of methods that refer to the Halliday LFS analysis model. The findings of this study are that UMKR through the transitivity system has diverse social processes. This diversity determines and is determined by language structured based on the needs of participants. The participants that appear in the form of living objects and inanimate objects, while the participant role in accordance with the type of process that binds it. Process is the core of activity in clauses realized by verbs. The percentage of process appearance is dominated by relational processes 17.3%, material 15.2%, verbal 2.1%, behavior 2.8%, mental 3.5%, and form 6.2%. The dominance of the relational and material processes indicates that the character of Kepulauan Riau Malay in life at the social level always relates to the patterns (ways) that they have agreed on in their environment. This relationship is intensive between them. In semantics, this activity is realized in the form of concrete actions.

Abstract

The use of  Bahasa Indonesia as the language of instruction in the education process is a must. However, sometimes in some cases, the use of local language is needed by teachers in order to encourage better communication to students. This is a descriptive research. The purpose of the paper is to know the use of local language as the language of instruction at the primary school level. The findings of this study indicate that teachers in the early grades, first to third grade, at the primary school level still use local language as an introduction other than Indonesian. In accordance with most respondents, local language is very helpful for them in providing and building deeper understanding to students

Abstract

Not all students are well motivated in the classroom activities. Some students often show disruptive behaviors that influence the teacher in conducting learning process. In particular case, there is special issue regarding behavioral problems in elementary school such as talking without permission and disturbing other friends while studying in class. Accordingly, this study aims at discerning behavior interruptions found in English teaching class. Moreover, it also describes the classification of students’ disruptive behaviors and explores teachers’ actions in order to overcome those behaviors. In this research, depth-interview with the English teacher, classroom observation and documentation were used to collect the data for two perceived classes and interactive model was used to analyze the data. Each class has been chosen based on specific characteristics for being observed. Though the study reported that there were several disruptive behaviors exhibited by primary school students, it could be classified as non-violence behavior since no one was injured by physical force. It seems possibly categorized as normal behavior by considering the students’ age and level in school. In the EFL context, students will be more focus and motivated if they are studying in comfortable class because students are required to master several skills of English. Comfortable class will lead them to comfortable learning. Henceforth, it was suggested that teacher should have adequate knowledge of the students’ psychology based on their age in order to give the proper strategies to control disruptive behaviors in the classroom.

Abstract

The corruption-themed humours come along with the increasing number of corruption cases in this country. The uniqueness of paradox in the corruption-themed humours is a contrary opinion or argument to popular opinion could be considered as strange or extraordinary. This paper discusses the form of paradox along with its implications in the corruption-themed humour discourse. This paper aims to describe the form of paradox and its implications in corruption-themed humour discourse. This is a descriptive paper and uses qualitative explanation to elaborate the data. Abstract

The Javanese language used in Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace as a media communication is still dominant with its speech levels. In the palace, communication uses language levels from ngoko, madya, krama, krama inggil, and even kedhaton language. The purpose of this study is to describe the form of verbal interaction, factors, and social function of Javanese language in the palace. This research is a qualitative research by taking the location of research in Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace. The data used in the research namely Javanese in daily activities and traditional ceremonies in the palace. Oral and written form the data of the research. The data is provided by the method of recording, observation, and interview. In the data analysis using the speech component approach. From the results of the study it is concluded that the form of the use of Javanese language used by abdi dalem is influenced by vertical and horizontal relationships among participants. The factors that influence the use of Javanese language are the speakers' assumptions about their social position and relationship with the person they are talking to, the presence of a third person, the tone and atmosphere of speech, themes, and norms. The social function of Javanese language in the palace for abdi dalem as an official media communication in the palace, media for creating social distance between superiors and subordinates, as an expression of respect, strengthening the position of the king, creating sincere/polite attitudes among subordinates and superiors.AbstrakBahasa Jawa yang digunakan dalam kraton Surakarta Hadiningrat sebagai alat komunikasi masih mengenal unggah-ungguh (speech levels). Dalam kraton Surakarta Hadiningrat manggunakan tingkatan bahasa mulai dari ngoko, madya, krama, krama inggil dan bahkan basa kedhaton. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan wujud interaksi verbal, faktor penentu, fungsi sosial bahasa Jawa pada abdidalem kraton Surakarta Hadiningrat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan mengambil lokasi penelitian di kraton Surakarta Hadiningrat. Data yang digunakan adalah bahasa Jawa dalam aktivitas sehari-hari dan upacara adat di kraton. Datanya dalam bentuk lisan dan tulisan. Penyediaan datanya dilakukan dengan metode rekam, observasi, wawancara. Dalam analisis data menggunakan pendekatan komponen tuturan. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh simpulan bahwa wujud penggunaan bahasa Jawa pada abdi dalem dipengaruhi oleh hubungan vertikal dan horizontal antara penutur dengan mitratutur. Faktor penentu yang mempengaruhi penggunaan bahasa Jawa adalah anggapan penutur terhadap kedudukan sosial dan relasinya dengan orang yang diajak berbicara, kehadiran orang ketiga, nada dan suasana berbicara, pokok pembicaraan, dan norma. Fungsi sosial bahasa Jawa untuk abdi dalem Surakarta Hadiningrat adalah sebagai alat komunikasi resmi dalam kraton, alat untuk menciptakan jarak sosial antara atasan dan bawahan, sebagai pengungkap rasa hormat, memperkuat kedudukan Raja, menciptakan unggah-ungguh/sikap sopan-santun antara bawahan dengan atasan.

Abstract

Jumlah penutur bahasa Batak Toba di kota Palangka Raya setiap tahunsemakin bertambah. Penambahan jumlah ini seiirng dengan migrasi penuturdengan alasan menempuh jalur pendidikan di Universitas Palangka Raya.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sikap dan kesetiaan mahasiswayang tinggal di kota Palangka Raya terhadap bahasa Btak Toba. Hasilpenelitian ini menunjukkan ternyata sebagain besar mereka memiliki sikapyang postif terhadap bahasa Batak Toba. Sikap positif ini secara langsungdibuktikan dengan kesetiaan mereka dalam menggunakan bahasa BatakToba dalam berbagai kesempatan, terkhusus dalam komunitas-komunitasyang mereka bentuk.
