Abstract

The increasingly fierce market competition demands manufacturers to act as communicators, employing various communication strategies to ensure their products are always remembered and chosen by consumers. Beyond showcasing product advantages, there is a need for a strong visual identity. This research aims to illustrate how manufacturers implement marketing communication strategies through packaging design. Packaging no longer serves solely as a container and protector; it also functions as a visual communicator to consumers. Thus, packaging requires attractive design elements, including brand, logo, color, illustration, typography, layout, and shape. Perception, the process of receiving and interpreting sensory stimuli, plays a crucial role in the attractiveness of packaging design, as the brain and eyes seek simplicity and balance in everything they perceive. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method focusing on marketing communication strategies and packaging design. The purposive sampling technique and an interactive data analysis model were utilized to obtain direct data from observations. The results depict that the visual elements in packaging design serve as effective tools for communicating product information, fostering interaction with consumers, and creating a brand experience that can attract consumers to become customers.

Abstract

The high public interest in drinking water has encouraged the growth of depots everywhere, especially in the Bobosan area located in the North Purwokerto district. However, the refill water depot and the community have some problems or obstacles in the implementation of its services such as the courier from the depot often having difficulty finding the address when delivering refill water orders when the deliverer is not a subscription Courier, difficulty in ordering gallons, limited ordering media using WhatsApp media while users can only get WhatsApp contact, and the recording of sales data and customer data is still done manually so that the monitoring process is often missed gallons resulting in several gallons lost or reduced from stock. Based on these problems, the researchers realized that a more efficient and organized solution was needed to manage the gallon ordering process. Therefore, the idea was obtained to create an application design that focuses more on the user experience and creates innovations that are relevant to user needs. The design of this application is built by applying the Design Thinking method and tested using the system Usability Scale. This study has the purpose of measuring the effective and efficient level of the gallon ordering process. The results of this study consisted of problem statements, how might we, user persona, user journey map, information architecture, wireframe, flowchart, design system, and high fidelity. Then proceed with the testing of W-Fill Application Design and obtain an average score of 80.83, where the score of 80.83 is included in the category of Excellent with grade scale A. The score indicates that the design of the W-Fill application is acceptable effective and efficient enough to assist users in ordering gallons.

Abstract

The Telecommunications Engineering Laboratory is one of the laboratories under the Department of Electrical Engineering, at Jakarta State Polytechnic. To increase the security of the laboratory room, a mobile application called Secure Lab can be used, where a door lock with a QR code is connected to the application. The QR code functions as a room key which was built using Android Studio and uses the Kotlin programming language. This application is also connected to Authentication and Realtime Database on Firebase. There are two access rights to the Secure Lab application, namely as a lecturer and a student. To act as a student, you need to create an account first so you can request room access using a QR code and open the door. Acting as a lecturer has the right to provide QR code access to students, which can be used to open the room door within a predetermined period. Secure Lab application testing is intended to determine the application's feasibility. From three tests: Compatibility, Functional Suitability, and Portability aspects, very decent results were obtained. From the QR code reading test, the result was that a scanner could read the QR code produced by the Secure Lab application. Testing based on the distance obtained results that 10-16 cm is the distance that can still be read by the scanner.

Abstract

 Laundry kiloan is a laundry service that calculates clothes based on kilograms. This kilo laundry service has an affordable price compared to individual laundry services. The laundry service process is faster because all the clothes are washed at the same time. Problems encountered in the field when picking up laundry items include laundry items often falling, plastic bags often being torn by motorbike nuts, being splashed with water, and there being no tools to weigh laundry items during laundry pick-up and drop-off, and there being no facilities. pick up and drop off laundry clothes as a place to put laundry clothes, only relying on the front seat of the motorbike. The solution to this problem was a design for a laundry pick-up and drop-off facility. This design was designed using qualitative and quantitative research methods. Qualitative research is research that produces problematic or written information about people and behavior observed in the field, while quantitative data is data that can be analyzed statistically or from the results of questionnaires which become supporting data in research. This data will then be analyzed and become the focus of the research. Observations were carried out in two places, namely Rumah Cuci Surabaya as a case study and Kendil Washing Clinic Gresik as a place for needs analysis, material analysis, shape analysis, color analysis, dimensional analysis, technology analysis, ergonomic, and anthropometric analysis, placement analysis, security analysis, identity analysis, and system analysis. The results of the research are the design of a side box and top box type of laundry pick-up and delivery facility, made from jeep hood fabric and Eva sponge, using a zipper system, Velcro, buckle, webbing rope as reinforcing rope, and wooden sticks as support.

Abstract

Firdaus Amany Psychological Center is an institution providing psychological services that operates in education, development, and organization. Firdaus Amany Psychological Center offers various services, including psychological consultations, training, seminars, workshops, and psychological tests. With the many services provided by the Firdaus Amany Psychological Center, a media is needed to provide information regarding these services, in this case, the media website. This research aims to design a website prototype as a medium that can inform about the services available at the Firdaus Amany Psychological Center. The data collection process in this research was carried out using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and a literature study. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed using SWOT analysis and visual analysis of the comparison matrix, explained in qualitative descriptive terms. It is hoped that the results of the Firdaus Amany Psychological Center website prototype design can help provide information on available services to patients and prospective patients. This website prototype also provides a page that can show the company's credibility so that it can have a good image.

Abstract

The emblem of the Yogyakarta Palace in the field of visual communication design is a form of visual identity logo that represents the ideal of an institutional entity that reflects the cultural image, perspective, and specific goals, which is rich in sign and meaning. The purpose of the research is to explore the meaning and visual patterns contained in the emblem of the Yogyakarta Palace in this study using an iconography and iconology approach that emphasizes the study of meaning in the visual elements of the visual object of the emblem of the Yogyakarta Palace, described by descriptive qualitative methods. The results of the study found the concept of Javanese culture that is typical in the aspect of its visual meaning. The concept of Manunggaling Kawula Gusti is interpreted as unity, national spirit, namely Loro-loroning Atunggal which is then realized in two symbols, namely Praja Cihna Cihnaning Nagari and Praja Cihna Cihnaning Salira Pribadi. The visual elements in it show the influence of classical Javanese culture (Hindu and Buddhist era), and European aesthetic concepts of the colonial era that are aligned with Islamic values, where to show their distinctive identity, they have changed into the elements of Javanese iconography, describing the concept of nationalism, besides as a form of personal actualization, but further to show their identity as a nation.

Abstract

This journal explores toxic characters that we usually encounter in friendships. Humans are social creatures who always interact with the people around them. In social relationships, we sometimes meet individuals who often harm and disturb us emotionally, which can make our mental health bad. Therefore, there is a need for educational media that discusses toxic friendships so that young people can recognize and understand toxic characters that need to be avoided. The author discusses the process of creating character designs that center on toxic characters which will be published in an illustrated book about toxic people in the hope that the character designs can provide insight into toxic friendships and how to deal with them. The characters designed explore various toxic traits that exist in fictional characters to bring these characters to life clearly. This design not only functions as a creative medium but also offers deeper education about someone's toxic behavior.

Abstract

One type of natural disaster that occurs in Indonesia is a volcanic eruption. This is because Indonesia has hundreds of active volcanoes with different types of eruptions and status for each volcano, Indonesia is a country that is considered to be the island with the largest number of active volcanoes in the world. Even though seismographs are used to record volcanic activity, these tools can still not classify the type of earthquake and the status of volcanic eruptions. To overcome this, researchers propose using Machine Learning to classify volcanic eruption status. Machine Learning is a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that facilitates human performance. There are seven branches of AI, including machine learning. In this research, Machine Learning methods were used as Template Matching and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) to classify the type and status of volcanic eruptions. The test results are in the form of confusion matrix accuracy, recall, precision, and F1 score where to find the best K in the KNN model is divided into K=1, 3, 5, 7, 11. The results obtained are the best K at a data ratio of 90:10, namely K=1 where accuracy on big data (majority) is 91% and accuracy on all data (total data) is 87%. The test results also include how the KNN model predicts new data using KNN.

Abstract

Explores the key role of logo design in developing a strong and effective brand identity, particularly in the context of agricultural businesses, as analyzed for S&N Farm. Adopting design thinking as the main approach, this research identifies the critical steps to achieve successful visual branding. The initial stage of research involved a deep understanding of S&N Farm's values and unique identity through the Empathy stage. This laid the foundation for designing a logo design that accurately reflected the company's essence. The Ideation stage brought out a high level of creativity, involving brainstorming and collaboration between the design team and management. As a result, a logo design prototype was created as a physical representation of the creative ideas. Furthermore, the research highlights the importance of a continuous iteration process for design improvement. In this case, consumer engagement and market response are key factors in ensuring the design aligns with the changing preferences and dynamics of the business environment. This research shows that logo design is not a static entity; instead, it evolves according to market needs and trends. The success of the logo design is seen in achieving the desired differentiation, distinguishing the S&N Farm brand from its competitors. The appropriate use of aesthetics creates positive visual appeal, arouses consumer attention, and increases brand recognizability. Logo design is not only a visual element, but also a solution generated through iteration and consumer engagement, creating a unique brand identity. This research provides an in-depth look at how logo design can be a key pillar in the development of strong visual branding. This research has relevant practical implications for agricultural companies and similar businesses to adopt a design thinking approach in building a meaningful and effective brand identity in a changing market.

Abstract

Patriarchy, a system where men dominate, has long influenced society, including the notion that women are weaker. However, the spirit of resistance is increasingly echoed, including through media such as movies. This article aims to explore the traces of closed resistance to patriarchal culture in film, using the movie "Kartini" as an example. This research analyzes "Kartini" qualitatively, going scene by scene to find John Fiske's three-tingkat "social codes". These codes, ranging from the surface tingkat to the underlying reality, help reveal the hidden messages in the movie. The closed resistance to patriarchy is implied in the movie's visuals and various other components, from the costumes Kartini wears to the cinematography used.  Through this analysis, we can see that film can be a powerful weapon against patriarchal culture. "Kartini" shows how Javanese women, despite living in the shackles of custom, can resist and fight for their rights.
