Maritime accidents in small-scale coastal communities are often caused by low awareness and limited knowledge of safety practices among traditional fishermen. Pulau Raam, located in Southwest Papua, is one such community where most fishermen have never received formal maritime safety training. This community service program aimed to improve fishermen’s safety knowledge and preparedness through a structured educational intervention. The method applied combined theoretical instruction, practical simulation, and provision of safety equipment. The participants consisted of 30 traditional fishermen who rely on small long boats for daily activities. The intervention began with introductory sessions that introduced the importance of life-saving equipment and safe behavior at sea. This was followed by hands-on simulations involving the correct use of life jackets, identification of dangerous weather, and basic emergency response. To assess the effectiveness of the program, a pre-test and post-test were administered to all participants. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in knowledge, with post-test scores increasing from a mean of 48.5 to 83.7 (p < 0.05). Additionally, the provision of life jackets supported the immediate application of learned safety practices. This program demonstrates that combining localized education, practical skill-building, and equipment access can substantially enhance safety awareness and behavior among fishermen. It offers a replicable model for other coastal communities in Indonesia with similar challenges. Further efforts should include community mentoring and institutional collaboration to sustain safety practices in the long term.

Youth unemployment is a new worldwide crisis with lasting psychological and social impacts. Besides economic difficulties, youth unemployment leads to mental frustrations, low self-esteem, and social exclusion. Building on theoretical frameworks like Erikson's Psychosocial Development Theory and Jahoda's Latent Deprivation Model, this research explores the impacts of unemployment on emotional well-being and social integration. The article also analyzes the long-term impact of youth unemployment and how it affects employability and economic welfare in the future. The article also considers coping strategies, policy interventions, and social support systems' functions in reducing such effects. The termination of youth unemployment is crucial for economic growth and the generation of a psychologically stable and socially active generation. The data were collected and analyzed through the synthesis and exploration of extensive literature.

The Philippines implemented Republic Act 10351, also known as the Sin Tax Reform Act of 2012 to reform the excise tax on potentially harmful goods such as tobacco, alcohol, sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), etc. This paper aims to assess and review the impact of the Sin Tax Law (STL) in the Philippines and to contribute to the analysis of its effects on these three endpoints: Consumption, the government's revenue generation, and overall public health. This research employs a systematic literature review (SLR) to assess the impact of the STL in the Philippines. Relevant literature were gathered from databases such as PubMed, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Tobacco Induced Diseases (TID). The PRISMA Model was utilized to screen and select appropriate sources. Findings revealed that STL’s impact was most apparent in the initial years following its implementation. The consumption of sin goods decreased, but a study on the elasticity of demand for tobacco showed that it is inelastic. The tax revenue collected by the government significantly increased, which is then allocated to health care programs. Additionally, illnesses and deaths caused by tobacco use also declined. However, people will always find a roundabout to avoid being affected by this law by purchasing from illicit markets that arose and thrived a few years after STL implementation. Hence, continuous study is needed to assess STL further and ensure that it still serves its purpose and fulfills its objectives. Ongoing policy adjustments may be required to address market behavior and prevent exploitation of legal loopholes that compromise public health and revenue outcomes.

Parenting plays an important role in early childhood emotional development. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of parenting education on changes in parenting styles and its impact on children's emotions. Using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experiment one group pretest-posttest design, the intervention was given to 20 parents in Wage Village, Sidoarjo, in the form of short counseling lasting approximately 20 minutes. Data analysis was carried out by paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant decrease in authoritarian parenting and an increase in democratic parenting tendencies. In addition, there was a significant decrease in children's emotional, behavioral, and hyperactivity problems (p < 0.05). However, peer relationships and prosocial behavior did not show significant changes. Parenting education has been shown to be effective in improving parenting patterns and supporting early childhood emotional regulation.

Parenting education programs are widely promoted as a means of improving parental practices and supporting early childhood development. However, evidence regarding their comprehensive impact on children’s emotional and social development remains mixed. This study aims to critically assess the effectiveness of a short-term parenting education intervention in modifying parenting patterns and influencing emotional development outcomes among children aged 1–5 years in Wage Village, Taman District, Sidoarjo Regency. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. Fivety parents were recruited using purposive sampling. Participants completed a validated questionnaire measuring two dimensions of parenting (authoritative and authoritarian) and five indicators of children’s emotional development. The intervention consisted of a 20-minute counseling session on positive parenting strategies. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests with a significance level of α = 0.05. Findings revealed a statistically significant reduction in authoritarian parenting scores (p = 0.000) and improvements in certain child emotional indicators, specifically behavioral problems and hyperactivity (p < 0.005). However, no significant changes were observed in peer relationships (p = 0.398) or prosocial behavior (p = 0.185). While the intervention showed measurable short-term effects on reducing rigid parenting styles and some behavioral issues, its influence on children’s social competencies remained negligible. These results suggest that short-term parenting education may be effective for addressing immediate behavioral concerns but is insufficient for fostering comprehensive social and emotional growth. Factors such as peer interaction, school environment, and cultural context likely play a stronger role in shaping these aspects. Sustainable, multi-sector strategies integrating community engagement, school-based programs, and ongoing parental support are recommended. Parenting education should be implemented as part of a broader, long-term framework to ensure lasting improvements in both parental practices and children’s holistic development.

Despite sustained policy interventions aimed at expanding access to higher education, significant disparities persist, particularly for marginalized students from historically disadvantaged communities. Additionally, while the overall enrollment figures have significantly improved, systemic inequities continue to hinder equitable participation. This paper critically examines key access barriers, such as financial insecurity, academic under-preparedness, ambiguity surrounding admission criteria, and administrative delays such as late document submission. The paper proposes a data-informed decision-making framework tailored to support prospective students, especially first-generation applicants in navigating the complex pathways of university, Technical and Vocational Education and Training college, and matric re-write applications. The framework leverages robust academic performance indicators to recommend optimal educational trajectories and integrates real-time guidance on funding opportunities. By streamlining procedural workflows and enhancing access to accurate, timely information, the tool seeks to empower students to make informed academic decisions. The framework further offers scalable, practical intervention to mitigate both institutional and socioeconomic barriers, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable access to higher education institutions in South Africa.

Law No. 20 of 2013 concerning the national education system, article 3, requires character building from an early age. Hindu religious education is a subsystem of national education. In addition to encouraging spiritual intelligence, education also strives to produce students who are intellectually and emotionally intelligent. In its implementation, education for children with special needs at SLB Negeri 3 Denpasar is based on the values of Balinese local wisdom. If students can understand, internalise, and apply these values, it is certain that their personalities in both school and non-school settings will prioritise positive aspects rooted in Balinese local wisdom, such as Tri Hita Karana, Tat Twam Asi, and Mayama Braya. Therefore, the implementation of education for children with special needs (ABK) based on these local wisdom values of Bali in schools must be further prioritised to cultivate a generation of young people who are of high quality and noble character.
