Abstract

Rice is staple grain production that plays an important role in food security and the socio-economic value of agriculture in South East Asia countries. Among the factors that have negative effects on rice, weed is the major one. Its production constraint is directly seeded rice; besides, weed also affects rice growth and yield by competition about light, water, nutrient, space. Jussiaea octovalvis is a kind of weed in the field during rice growth to mature, which affects the growth and yield of rice but not significantly different based on this research. Treatments were arranged factorially in Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with two factors, 20 treatments (4 varieties, 5 of weed densities), and four replications, and each repetition used two pots for each treatment. As a result, the data showed the difference between the rate of growth and the yield of rice grain recovery products. Especially at data of LL 58 DAP showed significant difference (P=0.017), which the highest rate is 59.13 cm of V2; for harvest data showed that V3 is the best result, but it is also a sensitive one in the condition of weed densities impaction more than the others varieties (D0V3=620.5; D4V3=438). Besides, the measurement of W1000 of rice grain (30.96 g) and Wt per pot (20.01 g) of D0V3 is weight more than the other treatment; within D4V4 was obtained lowest of W1000 (19.26 g) and the lowest of Wt is D1V1 (5.25 g). Besides that, D2 and D4 are more effective on rice growth and yield, and it was non–significant. However, it is not the interaction between weed densities and varieties of rice.

Abstract

This study analyzes the existing fish farming economic aspects' due to Community Direct Aid (CDA) intervention in the fish production center in Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. The research methodology uses survey methods. The data collection tool uses a questionnaire survey, and data analysis uses descriptive analysis, mathematical analysis, and income analysis. As a result, the fish farming of catfish farmers can generate income in a total of Rp. 660,272.410,- with the ability to generate income in 511% and efficient in using production costs. The implications of government political policy intervention on farmers as the activator subject of the economic aspects of fish farming business raise six items (60%) have positive effects, and four items (40%) have adverse effects. In conclusion, the income of fish farming in conditions that can generate overall income. The impact of government policy intervention on farmers as the driving subject of aquaculture's economic aspects.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the condition of Gambier marketing in Limapuluh Kota Regency, the Gambier center of West Sumatera and Indonesia, which is still experiencing problems and tends to be inefficient because of the high marketing margins, and the low share received by farmers. This study aims to analyze what factors influence the marketing efficiency of Gambier commodities in Lima Puluh Kota Regency. In this study, the researcher uses a Structural Equation Model (SEM) PLS method by taking 100 Gambier producers from Kapur IX sub-district and Pangkalan Koto Baru sub-district as research sites. The results showed that the variables of human resources, marketing institutions, products, capital, and markets significantly affect the marketing efficiency of Gambier commodities in the research site. Only the variable of government policy did not have a substantial impact on marketing efficiency

Abstract

Saline intrusion (SI) is causing serious risks for agriculture and coastal life in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Maintaining agricultural production under that challenging condition places more tremendous pressure on rural societies. This study aimed to get insight into adaptive adaptation's forms and factors influencing farmers' participation process by applying the social and ecological approach. The research was conducted in An Bien district, Kien Giang province, a province in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. A mixed-method integrating quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data using key informant panel interviews, group discussion, and household survey. The results showed that local farmers had changed the farming system from double rice crops to shrimp-rice models to deal with the impacts of SI. Group response has emerged as the appropriate adaption in both formal and informal forms. The adaptive group plays an essential role in connecting community members, and two forms of adaptation have worked closely to adapt to SI. Factors affecting the informal group related to relatives, households living close to each other; For the formal group, the main factor affecting participation is when joining the group, the members receive benefits from the group. Besides, prestige and having a lot of experience in the leader's production activities affect the official group participation. In addition to the positive factors, two negative factors affect group adaptation: unfavorable farm location and distrust

Abstract

This study analyzes the factors influencing gambier productivity, analyzes the technical efficiency of gambier farming, and analyzes the factors affecting gambier farming's technical efficiency. This research was conducted in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, a gambier production center in West Sumatra. Data were analyzed using the Cobb Douglas stochastic frontier production function. The results showed that the factors that significantly influenced gambier's productivity were labor, NPK fertilizer, plant age, number of trees, varieties, and technology. The number of labor, fertilizer factor, plant age, number of trees, and seedling varieties had a positive effect on gambier productivity. In contrast, NPK fertilizer and technology had a negative impact on gambier productivity. The technical efficiency level of gambier farming started from 0.25 to 0.99 with an average level of 0.76. It means that farmers are technically efficient but can still increase gambier productivity if they use production inputs appropriately and adequately. Factors that significantly influence technical efficiency are age, farming experience, and technology. Older farmers will have a higher level of technical efficiency compared to young age. The lower the farming experience, the more technically efficient the farmer is. Farmers who use the hydraulic jack system technology are more efficient than farmers who use the jack system technology

Abstract

This study was conducted at Laboratory in An Giang University; the varieties examined were collected from farmer households in 2018 – they were varieties that the farmer stored for the next crop (Winter-Spring) from Autumn-Winter crop in Cho Moi district, An Giang Province, Vietnam. The research evaluated the quality of seed rice, which is provided and planted by the farmer. As a result, this study showed that almost all of the varieties of seed rice from farmer households indicated the ratio of filled-grain, the germination, and the determination of seedling healthy, which are lower than certified variation. Besides, the samples of seed rice from farmer household have more infected fungal; especially the samples with higher in a filled-grain ratio is less infected by fungi, there were 12 types of seed borne-fungi in rice varieties from the farmer (in Cho Moi district), included: Alternaria padwickii, Rhizoctonia solani, Aspergillus oryzae, Bipolaris oryzae, Cercospora janseana, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium moniliforme, Pyricularia oryzae, Sarocladium oryzae, Tilletia barclayana, Fusarium graminearum, and Ustilaginoidea virens

Abstract

The national policy of agricultural restructuring plays a vital role in adapting to climate change's effects and economic development in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. Unproductive areas have been converted into other crops with higher efficiency. Drawn by the sustainable livelihoods approach, this article explores the current situation and factors challenging the Cham community in implementing the agricultural restructuring. The mixed method included in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and a questionnaire survey. The results showed that the Xuong Com Vang longan (Dimocarpus longan) variety has occurred in Khanh Hoa commune for a long time as an indigenous fruit tree of this area. In terms of the farming system, the polyculture system combining fruit trees and upland crops brought more income sources than the monoculture system. The asset abilities of the Cham farmers are various from one to the others. Soil and weather conditions are appropriate for planting. But farm size is small, which is one of the difficulties of developing fruit areas. Human and social assets were good since farmers had enough knowledge to manage the gardens, and a close connection existed among the Cham community. It was not a case of the financial status since a lot of money needs to be invested in the starting year. Therefore, the private loan still exists as one of the farmer's choices. For better future development, land management and financial resource should be considered for better agricultural restructuring aims. To increase farmers' incomes, create production chains helping enterprises and farmers work more efficiently for the better life of Cham gardeners in An Giang province in Vietnam.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics of innovation, communication patterns, and sustainability of the application of salibu technology in Tanah Datar District; and to analyze the correlation between innovation characteristics and communication patterns on the sustainability of salibu technology in Tanah Datar. This research was quantitatively using a survey method and supported by qualitative descriptive data. The research location was chosen purposively based on the location topography, that is, in the Tarab River and Batipuh subdistricts. Data analysis is done using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistics using the software SPSS 23.00. The characteristics of technological innovation are generally quite good. The pattern of communication is relatively good. The type of communication applied is dialogical by involving the participation of all actors, the direction of communication is convergent, and the frequency and the quality of communication are done where the perpetrators equally understand the meaning of the message conveyed. The adoption in both areas has been sustainable in each harvest season, increased land area, and the desire to continue implementing and developing salibu technology. Sustainability is supported by the characteristics of innovation and communication patterns in both regions.

Abstract

The substitution of Snakehead fish flour to make the cookies have the function of increasing nutrient. This study analyzes the effects of Snakehead fish flour on the sensory characteristics of cookies. This experimental study used a completely random design. The first step of the study was to characterize and develop snakehead fish flour. The second step was to determine functional cookie formulation with four treatments: 0%, 10%, 15%, and 20% snakehead fish flour. Cookies were then evaluated for their hedonic evaluation. As the results, the organoleptic study in the form of a hedonic test for 30 semi-trained panelists showed all categories except taste were not significantly different at p>0.05. The highest acceptance percentage for adding snakehead fish flour was 20% in taste significantly. In conclusion, the acceptability in the taste of respondents showed that snakehead fish flour treatment had a significant effect (p<0.05).
