Abstract

Raden Aria Wangsakara's house is an architectural heritage object in Kampung Lengkong Kyai in Tangerang. He is a scholar from Sumedang and a prince from the Cirebon Sultanate, who has an important relationship with the history of Banten and Jayakarta in general, and Tangerang and Tigaraksa in particular. At a glance, his house is similar to Betawi houses or like traditional houses on the north coast of Sunda-Banten, which are multicultural in general. What are the characteristics of this house? This study intends to analyze the architectural characteristics of this house using a qualitative approach in the form of a case study. This analysis was carried out to analyze and verify the type of space, type of form, and type of building style. The results of this study indicate the type of space and the type of form that still follows the Sundanese house but is modified in the context of the local physical environment which is close to the Cisadane River and the context of a multicultural environment. The style type of the house borrowed and received some elements of Indo-Islamic, Arabic, and European Colonial styles.

Abstract

The water crisis is affecting the entire world, including Indonesia. Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions are vulnerable to such disasters. Low-income and traditional communities will be the first to feel the effects. Low-tech dew and fog harvesting buildings have been built in several parts of the world as alternative methods to address water scarcity. This technology necessitates the collaboration of multidisciplinary researchers and practitioners, particularly in architectural science, in the design development of this building. These building design requirements must be tailored to local Indonesian conditions. This study will examine the building opportunities that use this technology in the local Indonesian context, focusing on the potential for the adoption and modification of traditional buildings. This research method employs a narrative literature review of official document data and scientific studies. The study's findings indicate that traditional buildings in Indonesia have a high potential for the use of this technology.

Abstract

Biophilic design is a design approach that integrates natural elements into the built environment. Biophilic research has rapidly expanded into design, health, psychology, and technology. This study aims to explore trends of biophilic research, identify the relationships between scientific concepts, and reveal opportunities for further research. This library-based study employs a literature review method using bibliometric analysis. Digital data collection was obtained through Google Scholar for 2004-2024 with keywords 'biophilic', 'biophilic design', 'nature connection', and 'biophilia hypothesis'. Meta-data collection was conducted using Publish or Perish (PoP). Subsequently, VOSviewer was employed to create scientific maps for bibliometric analysis, and lens.org was utilized to conduct performance analysis. The findings reveal that over the past two decades, the number of publications on biophilic research in scientific journals has grown across various academic disciplines. Keyword-based mapping indicates the existence of conceptual relationships in psychology, environment, architecture, and ecology with six dominant clusters, namely; 'biophilic design strategy', 'biophilic urbanism', 'biophilic design framework', 'wellness and mental health', 'healing', and 'biophilic elements'. Based on these results, there are significant opportunities for further biophilic research in architecture and psychology scope, focusing on the design of built environments that incorporate natural elements into the built environment.

Abstract

The global spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia has posed severe challenges. The government has implemented access restriction policies to prevent the spread of the virus. While beneficial in the context of health, these policies have negatively impacted individuals' physical and mental well-being, as humans inherently require open spaces for tranquility, contemplation, and others. However, many city parks have been abandoned during the pandemic due to a lack of supporting facilities, including Taman Tegar Beriman. Given these conditions, this research aims to redesign Taman Tegar Beriman using a pandemic-friendly landscape approach incorporating the new normal concept. Spatial and descriptive analysis methods are employed to process physical, biophysical, and health data and identify community preferences. The design stages include analysis, schematic concepts, site plans, and construction drawings. The fundamental concept of this redesign is to optimize the function of Taman Tegar Beriman as a city park that is safe from the risk of virus transmission. The design concept draws inspiration from the radial and linear forms of the virus, which are then applied to the spatial layout, circulation, and facilities within the park. The design results can be a reference in rebuilding Tegar Beriman Park, which can adapt to future pandemic conditions.

Abstract

Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan Province, possesses unique characteristics that set it apart from other Indonesian cities. The city exhibits distinct characteristics compared to other cities in Indonesia. Pontianak is the focus of this study due to its significant urban growth, which necessitates an in-depth analysis to support sustainable urban planning. The ongoing densification of buildings in Pontianak and population growth impact the land required to support daily activities. This research seeks to specify and analyze the spatial distribution patterns of building densification in Pontianak using spatial autocorrelation. The study utilized a quantitative analysis method. The data comprises building distribution and area data sourced from Open Street Map (O.S.M.). These data were analyzed using Spatial Autocorrelation Analysis techniques, specifically Moran's I Index and Local Indicators of Spatial Autocorrelation (L.I.S.A.). The analysis strives to define the patterns of relationships or correlations between building locations in Pontianak. The examination results indicated that Moran's I Index is 0.762, signifying a positive spatial autocorrelation of buildings in Pontianak. It suggests that similar-sized buildings cluster together. The L.I.S.A. analysis further revealed that the Pontianak Kota District predominantly falls within the High-High category, indicating that buildings with high spatial potential surround this district. Additionally, the Pontianak Kota District is identified as the City Service Center (PPK) according to the Pontianak City Spatial Plan (R.T.R.W.) for 2013-2033. These findings demonstrate a significant correlation between the distribution of buildings and their areas within Pontianak City.
