Abstract

Onion is one of lowland vegetables commodity that has been long cultivated intensively by farmers in Indonesia. Probolinggo is one of the regions which give considerable contribution of producing onion to the national needs. In an effort to increase production, onion farmers in Probolinggo mostly relies on external supply in the form of artificial chemicals (fertilizers and pesticides). However, the using of artificial chemicals can cause pollution and damage the environment. So that utilization of biological agents and organic fertilizers which are environmentally friendly can become other solutions to increase the yield of onion production. Based on this case, it is very important in efforts to increase production of onion by combining organic fertilizers to enrich the content of organic matter in the soil with biological agents in tackling pests attack. Based on the research results in application of combining organic fertilizers granules plus NEP and biological agents Heterorhabditis sp. in District Gending Probolinggo shows that : 1. reducing the population of pests Spodoptera exigua up to 72.260%. 2. improving onion plant growth more optimal. From the result, it shows that the combination of organic fertilizer granule plus biological agents and NEP Heterorhabditis sp. (P2A1) is more effective than the combination of the others. Abstract

The equilibrium phase diagram and thermodynamic properties of a mixture of drugs and additives are information related to various possible interaction processes between components. Therefore, we conducted a study of the phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of binary mixtures of ketoprofen-succinic acid to estimate the types of interactions that may occur between these materials. The solid-liquid phase diagram of ketoprofen-succinic acid binary mixtures was determined by differential scanning calorimetry and composition of eutectic system was determined accurately using a Tamman diagram. The measurement of binary mixtures of ketoprofen-succinic acid with differential scanning calorimeter obtained the value of melting temperature and heat of fusion of ketoprofen- succinic acid system. The solid-liquid phase diagram of ketoprofen- succinic acid showed the formation of eutectic type phase diagram. The Tamman diagram showed accurately composition of the eutectic system of the Kp-SA binary mixtures at the mole fraction of Kp 0.87 and temperature 96.9oC.Keywords: ketoprofen, phase diagram, eutectic system, Tamman diagram

Abstract

Sol-gel and coprecipitation methods successfully prepared titanium dioxide (TiO2) powders with anatase structure. The TiO2 powders are then used to fabricate pure TiO2 thin-film or mixed with SnO2 powders for the TiO2/SnO2 composite thin film. Furthermore, the structural, morphological, as well as the optical properties of films were also investigated. The results showed that the synthesized thin-film of TiO2 powders by sol-gel method obtained better crystallinity and microstructure compared to the synthesized thin film by co-precipitation method. In the DSSC system, these features are needed to increase the electron mobility that responsibility for transport and recombination of photoexcited electrons. SEM images exhibited the smooth surface and uniform in particle size obtained by the addition of SnO2 powders in composite films. The composite thin film also indicated a higher transmittance value. Abstract

Aedes aegypti is the vector of various arthropod-borne diseases such as dengue fever, chikungunya and currently, zika. This study aimed to evaluate Artemisia vulgarisas other adulticides for controlling Ae. aegypti. Indonesian ministry of health hasbeen reported that more than 70.000 dengue fever human cases have occurred in 2015 covering 34 provinces which mean that dengue fever has spread now into all national territories. Eradication of Aedes still largely depends on insecticides, which is the most cost-effective strategy, and often inefficient due to resistance development in exposed Aedes population This study was designed to use of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) bioassay standard. CDC bottles were coated with the ethanolic solution of extract with a concentration of 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, 50000, and 100000 g per bottle. F0 mosquitoes were used for all experiments. Death and surviving mosquitoes were evaluated based on CDC standard assay. The test was performed with 10-25 adult mosquitoes every bottle and each concentration was repeated in triplicates. The results showed that LC50 and LC90 were 5790 g and 52110 g respectively after 120 minutes exposure to the extract. There was no mortality in ethanol control group. A. vulgaris significantly (P < 0.05) have adulticidal activity against Ae. aegypti. However, A. vulgaris have been reported to have larvacidal activity against Ae. Aegypti. These results indicated clearly that A. Vulgaris might act as the candidate of bioinsecticides for controlling Ae. aegypti. Keywords: Aedes aegypti, Artemisia vulgaris, adulticide, bio insecticide.

Abstract

The potential for performing Thermomyces lanuginosus xylanase-catalyzed reactions on birchwood xylan dissolved in a range of ionic liquids has been investigated. As apparent from the results, some of the selected hydrophobic ionic liquids performed as better facilitators of the hydrolysis reactions than the hydrophilic ones. Thus, the xylanase reaction profiles in these hydrophobic ionic liquids, including [Py1,4]tfsa, [C4MIm]PF6, [P6,6,6,14]BF4, [P6,6,6,14]dca, [P6,6,6,14]bisphosphinate, and [C1MIm]MeSO4, were investigated in greater detail and the conditions for optimum temperature, optimum pH, and kinetic parameters documented. [P6,6,6,14]bisphosphinate was found to be the best ionic liquid producing the highest xylanase activity (84.98 unit/mg protein) at high temperature and pH, namely at 85°C and pH 9.0, respectively, among all of the ionic liquids tested. In addition, this ionic liquid increases the specificity of the xylanase toward xylan, indicated by lower KM (6.42 mg/mL), though it does not observed well on its enzyme’s enhancement rate. Therefore, this study indicates that the application of this ionic liquid for the hydrolysis of real lignocellulosic samples, such as wood pulp, is warranted. Further investigations, outside the scope of this research will be required to validate these observations.

Abstract

Coercive field, Hc dependence of Pd seed under layer has been investigated for Co/Pd multilayer with perpendicular anisotropy magnetic. Structured Co/Pd multilayer fabricated by DC sputtering machine on glass substrate. Results indicated that Pd seed under layer of 50Å thicknesses successfully increased Hc from 800Oe to 1600Oe. The results could be related to the Co/Pd multilayered grain to grow separately leading exchange de-coupling effect, beside the increase of surface interaction.
