Abstract

The men body is not only seen as a body. Currently the men body has been exploited by capitalism which rivals the popularity of the women body which is usually exploited through beauty contests. The men body, which is disciplined by fitness products, has now ventured into men's fitness contests, one of which is The New L-Men of The Year which has been transformed from L-Men of The Year. This is one of the annual fitness contests for Indonesian men which was stopped in 2014, and then re-held in 2018. This research seeks to unravel the discourse behind The New L-Men of The Year using critical discourse analysis method by van Dijk. The unit of analysis for this research is online news on fimela.com related to the fitness contest The New L-Men of the Year 2018 period. The results showed that the discourse that emerged in the men's fitness contest through The New L-Men of The Year was a discourse on a healthy lifestyle. This healthy lifestyle is transmitted by the winner of The New L-Men of The Year as a health influencer who does not always highlight his six pack, but has the ability to communicate and understand the digital world as a form of persuasion of a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic condition requires private radio managers’ creativity, one of which is the Sritanjung FM in the Banyuwangi Regency. Uniquely, as a cultural radio, Sritanjung FM advertising revenue increased precisely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research uses a virtual ethnographic method that collects data offline and online. Researchers conducted direct observations of Sritanjung FM in Rogojampi District, Banyuwangi Regency, and conducted a virtual search through audio streaming, Facebook, and WhatsApp. In this study, informants amounted to four people, two from radio staff, one cultural expert, and one loyal listener. The results showed that the number of local advertisers and the frequency of local advertisements had increased three times. The internal causes include the creativity of Sritanjung FM in creating cultural programs and religious programs, creativity in the designing messages for ads spots, and uniqueness of using local language that match the COVID-19 theme. Local culture advertising creativity can be felt as the main taste of content that has relevance to postmodernism studies. External causes include the need for a business breakthrough to maintain income, the socio-cultural context of Osing ethnicity for the Banyuwangi people. Combined interest between local advertisers, strong Osing culture identity, and advertisers' creativity make Sritanjung FM experience a surge in revenue from local advertisers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the disaster literacy of residents in Disaster-prone Area (DPA) III and its support villages in Magelang Regency related to the Sister Village-based disaster mitigation. The four-level disaster literacy model (basic disaster literacy, functional disaster literacy, communicative/interactive literacy, and critical disaster literacy) is used to explain the manifestation of awareness, knowledge and understanding of DPA III villagers and their support villages regarding the Sister Village program. This qualitative research uses a constructivist approach. The data was collected through in depth-interview with research respondents, namely village officials and the Disaster Risk Mitigation Team in Ngargosoko, Nglumut, and Kapuhan villages (located in DPA III) as well as Sucen, Gulon and Mangunsari villages (support villages). The results showed that there are concrete manifestations of awareness, knowledge understanding and behavior of the villagers regarding the Sister Village program at these four levels. However, the context is preparedness or non-disaster and before disaster conditions. For example, the understanding of the table-top exercise and field exercise function held by BPBD Kabupaten Magelang. The function of the Sister Village program is to collect population and pre-existing facilities data on a regular basis, conduct awareness programs in accordance with respondents’ job description in the Sister Village program and map the aspects of disaster mitigation to minimize disaster risks. As for the condition during disaster and after disaster, it is still cannot be seen from the research results because at the time of the research, the respective community was not facing eruption disaster, given that the last Merapi eruption occurred in 2010 and the Sister Village program was only initiated a year later.

Abstract

ABSTRACT It is projected that the spread of disinformation infodemic among the COVID-19 pandemic will be as quickly or even more rapidly than the virus itself. The absence of the government in quickly and accurately providing information is suspected of being the basis of this phenomenon. Several studies have attempted to examine how the disinformation is shared, absorbed and driven to other behaviors. Meanwhile, no preliminary study maps the features of disinformation to be used practically for prevention and for overcoming disinformation itself. This study aims to fill this gap by examining 174 disinformation during the pandemic of COVID-19. There are five types of COVID-19 disinformation in Indonesia, namely governance, health, foreign relations, business and crime. We argue that if these five categories are not taken seriously, they will create a public distrust of government and science. Another result that arises is the apathy towards the virus which will endanger the wider community. On the basis of these results, we propose a strict government intervention in the provision of knowledge and clarification of disinformation in different forms of social media.

Abstract

Hari Prabangsa Nasional with hashtag (#) symbol had took over twitter during early February 2019. This trending topic was popularized by AJI Indonesia to protest against the government’s policy that has the possibility of threatening the press freedom. Prabangsa is the name of a journalist that was murdered by I Nyoman Susrama. This movement arised because of the policy to grant remission to the murderer. Hari Prabangsa Nasional or shortened as HPN has the similar abbreviation to Hari Pers Nasional (HPN). The aim of this research is to understand how Twitter as social media is employed as the new form of the press freedom protest. This research will be analyzed by The Logic of Connective Action Theory by Bennett and Segerberg . The Logic of Connective Action Theory argues for a more expansive path to concerted actions through the selfmotivated sharing of personalized content on social media. This research uses the Critical Discourse Analysis Method. This method will analyze the phenomenon from three different levels, such as the producer of social movement, the twitter text and the consumer of the social movement. The merit of this research is to add depiction that social media is effective way for conducting a social movement. The finding shows that to employ the Twitter for such movement, offline and online combination are still needed.

Abstract

This research will analyze the media convergence with the rapid development of the existing equipment in the broadcasting system of the television station in Indonesia. The digitalisation and advancement of communication and information technology have a tremendous impact on the emergence of a new paradigm and therefore, will also change the overall perspective of humans about various problems that occur around them. With the emergence of digital channels, the analogue media cannot support the existing system independently and require the integration of technologies in the discovery of new platforms. To analyze the paradigm shift of the television stations in Indonesia, this research uses the case study research method through interviews and observation data collection techniques. The research results show that technological and information changes in the broadcasting system in some technical parts of television media, i.e. the library system, post-production and broadcasting systems in the control room of the research. In responding to media convergence, the diversity of technologies involved in the processes of convergence, it makes the work more practical and efficient. Efficiency is very visible in the decent decrease of the production finance (cost) where works become competent with the integration of related units in the processes of convergence.

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the meaning of smoking behavior. Symbolic interaction theory explains subjective meaning as the basis for action. The symbolic interaction perspective contains the same thoughts as social action theory about the subjective meaning of human behavior, social processes and pragmatism. This means that humans (in smoking behavior) act based on the meaning they understand. This study uses symbolic interaction theory which explains the behavior of the meaning understood by smokers as seen from the aspects of mind, self, and society. The meaning of smoking based on “Mind” is a negative activity, positive life habits, entertainment, symbol of creativity, hard work, symbol of friendship and an economic symbol. The meaning of smoking based on “Self” means dependence, self-confidence, and economic stability. While, based on the concept of society, smoking is a behavior caused by the social interaction of the smoker with the community in the smoker's environment in the family, general public, work environment, and past experiences. Keywords: anomaly meaning, lecturer, smoking behavior, symbolic interactionism  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna perilaku merokok. Abstract

Berdasarkan data digital “Lionsgate Live! A Night at the Movie”, peneliti menemukan lima tema dalam aktivitas penonton ketika menyaksikan film melalui live streaming YouTube Live, yakni kegiatan menonton, pengalaman menonton, pemenuhan kebutuhan menonton film, reaksi terhadap film, dan penggunaan media.
