Abstract

This study investigates the cautious approach adopted by media coalitions in framing the discourse surrounding the alteration of the age limit policy for vice presidential candidates in Indonesia in 2024. Using the Discourse Coalition Framework (DCF) and Discourse Network Analysis (DNA), the research explores how media outlets form coalitions through nuanced discourse strategies. This study aims to analyze how online media in Indonesia builds narratives related to changes in the policy of the age limit for vice presidential candidates in the 2024 election. The analysis finds that MediaIndonesia.com and Tempo.co take a non-oppositional stance, crafting narratives that are intentionally cautious and open to multiple interpretations to avoid direct challenges to the MK's decision. This careful positioning often involves complex language that can obscure understanding for the general public, limiting non-experts’ grasp of the legal context. Viva.co.id, however, diverges by presenting clearer narrative patterns that align with specific political coalitions, focusing on justifications and perceived benefits. The study highlights that dominant discourses are often driven by influential figures such as academics, legal experts, and politicians, who serve as primary sources and reinforce the coalition’s influence over public opinion. The application of DNA provides insights into how these actors and their discourses shape public understanding and frame the urgency and legitimacy of the policy. This study underscores that in modern media coalitions, a strategy of "playing safe" is becoming a prevalent approach to managing public perception and discourse on politically sensitive issues.

Abstract

The escalating threat of antibiotic resistance, driven by misuse and overuse of antibiotics, poses a severe public health crisis that requires immediate and innovative solutions. Education on proper antibiotic use is crucial in combating this issue, particularly among community health cadres who play a pivotal role in disseminating health information. This study evaluates the influence of an educational intervention delivered via audio-visual media through WhatsApp on enhancing the knowledge and attitudes of Integrated Health Pos (Posyandu) and Family Welfare Movement (PKK) cadres about antibiotic resistance. A pretest-posttest design was adopted, involving 100 participants from rural areas in Kebak Kramat Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. Questionnaires assessed participants' knowledge and attitudes both before and after the intervention, which consisted of educational audio-visual content shared through WhatsApp. The findings revealed a significant improvement in knowledge, as evidenced by a Mann-Whitney U test Z-value of -2.044 (p=0.041) when comparing Posyandu and PKK cadres. However, no significant change was observed in attitudes, with a Z-value of -0.944 (p=0.345). These results indicate that while the intervention effectively increased knowledge about antibiotic resistance, it had limited impact on altering attitudes. The study underscores WhatsApp’s potential as a practical and accessible platform for delivering health education in rural settings. Nevertheless, it also highlights the necessity for complementary approaches to foster meaningful attitude changes and encourage sustained behavioral adaptations in antibiotic use. Future interventions should explore integrating interactive and participatory methods to address these challenges more effectively.

Abstract

Social media Facebook is one of the three most used social media in political communication in Indonesia. This development, on the one hand, is a good sign, where a new era has begun, where communication technology is used to win democratic competition and political sympathy, but on the other hand, the use of social media communication technology makes politics full of distortion due to the widespread phenomenon of hoaxes and hate speech.  This research was conducted with one aim, namely: to reveal the distortion of the language of debate on Facebook which is packaged in various hoaxes and hate speech related to ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup (SARA). By using the critical hermeneutics method, this research attempts to explore the context of the text, reconstruct the text, discover layers of text distortion, and analyze the text to find the author's self-emancipation and various validity claims in the text. By using the perspective of communicative action theory, this research finds the fact that political language debated on Facebook social media makes it difficult to build intersubjective consensus between writers and readers in general. Language debates that center on hate speech based on religion and ethnicity fail to build consensus to understand each other because the debate texts are dominated by mastery of language that centers on psycho-religious collective solidarity. Private languages that are centered on psycho-religious collective solidarity do not provide space for achieving intersubjective mutual understanding between text writers and text readers in general. Keywords:Communication Distortion, Hate Speech, Communicative Action, Collective Solidarity, Psycho-religious

Abstract

This study analyzes chronological practices in flash sale activities by digital natives in the Shopee Market Place. Flash Sale is a program that offers price promotions with limited stock and time. Flash sale activities provide a lot of ease of access, especially among young people to meet their needs, but this also has the consequence of media dependence, even to the point where consumers are trapped in simulacra that makes them lose their ability to distinguish between wants and needs. This study uses the nethnography method to collect data related to 3:3 and 4:4 flash sale activities on Shopee in March and April 2024, where the subjects in this study were active Shopee users aged 19-26 years who were involved in the 3:3 and 4:4 flash sale program transactions. The results of the study show that chronological practices carried out by young people in flash sale activities include physical boundaries, mediated reality, totally involuntary war, and end colonization. Research data analysis shows that young people in flash sale activities are in the digital youth category, with dystopian, futurist, and techno-realist types. Flash sale is a dromology or acceleration phenomenon that can control consumer anxiety and give rise to a desire to compete. This group is very vulnerable to being targeted by digital capitalists in creating a space of enjoyment, which is unknowingly fake.

Abstract

This research examines how stakeholders collaboration affects airport branding by exploring the role of cooperative efforts in shaping brand identity and reputation. It investigates how transparent communication, alignment with stakeholders expectations, and engagement with various groups-such as investors, consumers, local communities, and business partners aero and non-aero as well as local governments contribute to developing a cohesive and competitive branding strategy. This research utilizes a bibliometric approach, which aims to provide an overview of the global trends of this topic, as well as identify the dominance of the most influential authors, co-authors, institutions, countries, and publications in this field. The data was obtained through the Scopus database through a relevant keyword search that resulted in 639 articles, and then data processing and analysis were carried out through the tools VOS Viewer, RStudio Biblioshiny, and ScientoPy. Modern branding today does not just rely on unilateral communication but becomes more cooperative by involving various stakeholders. However, there are limited studies that provide a comprehensive overview of this field. The findings show that branding and stakeholders collaboration are increasingly important in shaping corporate identity, enhancing reputation and fostering long-term sustainable relationships. Some of the dominant and influential authors and institutions in research in this area are from Europe, the United States, and Australia, but contributions from developing countries are still minimal. This study recommends further in-depth research in developing countries, including Indonesia, given the great potential in airport branding development that can be done through stakeholders collaboration with a holistic approach that includes transparent communication, utilization of local cultural narratives as differentiating elements, and integration of sustainability values to build a relevant and globally competitive brand image.

Abstract

This research examines the strategies employed by the Instagram account @Sevinch.cos.id, a local natural ingredient-based skincare brand, to increase consumer engagement through social media. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and case study method, this research analyzes how Sevinch builds relationships with audiences through the dialogic virtuosity of the message, which includes the approach in delivering the message, the consistency and relevance of the message, the use of cultural elements, and direct interaction with customers. The data collection process was conducted through observation, interviews, and literature studies, which were then analyzed using triangulation to ensure the accuracy and validity of the research results. The results showed that Sevinch implemented four main strategies. First, they deliver messages in a simple, relaxed, informative, and interactive way, so that they are easily accepted by the audience. Second, Sevinch adapts the message to the needs of consumers while maintaining the consistency of its brand identity, such as highlighting natural ingredients in every promotion. Third, the cultural element of using natural ingredients is put forward as the main attraction to support the trend of environmentally friendly skincare that is increasingly in demand. Fourth, utilizing social media features such as comments, direct messages (DM), polls, and question and answer sessions to build more personal and emotional communication with consumers. These strategies have proven effective in building trust, loyalty, and consumer engagement, in accordance with the Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) theory that emphasizes the importance of understanding messages contextually, as well as compliance gaining theory that focuses on persuasive communication to influence audience behavior. This research provides important insights for businesses on how to utilize social media as a strategic communication tool to build long-term relationships with consumers. By emphasizing consistency, relevance, and active interaction, brands can create stronger engagement, increase trust, and strengthen consumer loyalty to the products or services offered.

Abstract

New voters aged 17 to 24, categorized as Generation Z, are highly proficient in digital technology and actively use social media as a primary source of political information, particularly through political memes. Social media fosters an echo chamber effect by continuously presenting similar political content, reinforcing existing beliefs and contributing to political polarization. This study examines the phenomenon of political polarization among new voters in the 2024 presidential election through political memes, utilizing the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) and the echo chamber concept as theoretical frameworks. A qualitative approach was employed, incorporating in-depth interviews with new voters who rely on social media for political information, content analysis of political memes on social media platforms, and a literature review. The findings indicate that new voters predominantly engage with political information through the central route of processing, relying on news portals, social media, and interpersonal discussions. However, social media algorithms reinforce an echo chamber effect by curating content based on users' previous interactions, leading to the polarization of supporters of different candidates (01, 02, and 03). This polarization manifests in heated debates and conflicts, particularly in the comment sections of social media posts featuring political memes. The subjective interpretation of memes—often infused with humor, satire, or sarcasm—exacerbates tensions, as they are perceived as either excessively supportive of or hostile toward particular candidates, further intensifying political divisions.
