Abstract

Background: Perineal rupture is a common complication during vaginal delivery that may cause bleeding, pain, infection, and postpartum complications. In Indonesia, the incidence of perineal rupture remains high, with 83% of women experiencing rupture during vaginal birth in 2020. Prenatal gentle yoga is a non-pharmacological intervention focusing on breathing, relaxation, and controlled stretching to improve maternal readiness during labor. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of prenatal gentle yoga on the incidence and degree of perineal rupture. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a post-test-only control group design was conducted. The study included 26 participants selected through quota sampling, comprising 13 mothers who participated in prenatal gentle yoga (intervention group) and 13 mothers who did not participate (control group). Differences between the two groups were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test. Results: No statistically significant difference was observed in the incidence of perineal rupture between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.071). However, a significant difference was found in the severity of perineal rupture (p = 0.005), with women who participated in prenatal gentle yoga experiencing less severe perineal tears than those in the control group. Conclusion: Prenatal gentle yoga did not significantly affect the incidence of perineal rupture but significantly reduced the degree of perineal rupture during vaginal delivery.

Abstract

Background: Gingivitis is a common inflammatory condition affecting the gingival tissues, primarily resulting from the accumulation of dental plaque due to inadequate toothbrushing practices. Adolescents are particularly susceptible to this condition because hormonal fluctuations during puberty can intensify the inflammatory response of the gingiva. Findings from a preliminary survey involving 10 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Krueng Barona Jaya showed that 50% of the participants experienced mild gingivitis, while 10% had moderate gingivitis. In terms of oral hygiene, 70% demonstrated a moderate level of oral and dental cleanliness, whereas the remaining 30% were categorized as having poor oral hygiene. Furthermore, interview results indicated that bleeding gums during toothbrushing was the most frequently reported complaint among the students. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the relationship between toothbrushing habits and gingivitis among grade X students at SMA Negeri 1 Krueng Barona Jaya. Methods: This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted on 7–8 May 2026, involving 46 respondents drawn from a population of 85 students selected using a proportional sampling technique. Data on toothbrushing habits were collected through interviews using a questionnaire, while gingivitis status was assessed using the Gingival Index (GI) through clinical examination. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of respondents had a poor toothbrushing habit (47.8%) and moderate gingivitis (41.3%). The Chi-Square test showed a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05). Conclusion: Toothbrushing habits were significantly associated with gingivitis status among grade X students. School-based oral health education and periodic gingival examinations are recommended to improve preventive oral health practices among adolescents.

Abstract

Background: Non-adherence to treatment remains one of the major barriers to successful pulmonary tuberculosis therapy. The long duration of treatment and the occurrence of antituberculosis drug adverse effects may cause patients to take their medication irregularly or discontinue treatment prematurely. This study aimed to analyze the association between antituberculosis drug adverse effects and treatment adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Hutabaginda Public Health Center, Tarutung District, North Tapanuli Regency, in 2026. Methods:This observational analytic study used a cross-sectional design. All 73 eligible pulmonary tuberculosis patients receiving antituberculosis drugs in 2026 were included using total sampling. Side effects were assessed using a 13-item questionnaire adapted from previous studies, while treatment adherence was measured using the MMAS-8. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test. Results:Most respondents experienced mild antituberculosis drug adverse effects, accounting for 60.3%, while 68.5% were categorized as adherent to treatment. Bivariate analysis showed a significant association between antituberculosis drug adverse effects and treatment adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients. These findings indicate that the severity of adverse effects experienced by patients is associated with their consistency in undergoing treatment. Conclusion:Antituberculosis drug adverse effects are associated with treatment adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients. Easily understood education, adverse-effect monitoring, and continuous support from healthcare workers should be strengthened to help patients complete their treatment.

Abstract

Nutrition is a major problem among school-aged children, because children who lack nutrition can experience sleepiness and low enthusiasm, which disrupts the learning process at school and will affect concentration and academic performance due to suboptimal brain development. The type of research used is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 52 elementary school students. The dependent variable is Nutritional Status, and the independent variable is eating patterns. The study results show that most respondents had good eating patterns, with 46 respondents (88%) at SDN 1 Tanjungrejo , Malang City, and most respondents had good nutritional status, with 43 respondents (83%) at SDN 1 Tanjungrejo , Malang City. The Spearman test results showed a p-value of 0.035 < (α = 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between eating patterns and students' nutritional status. The correlation coefficient value r = −0.293 indicates a weak relationship with a negative direction due to category coding. However, conceptually, a good diet still supports better nutritional status.
