Abstract

Physical attractiveness plays an important role in how we see ourselves and how we are seen by others. Individuals mainly focus on the eyes and mouth of others during interpersonal interactions. An attractive smile will create good interpersonal relationships. A perfect smile is created when there is harmony and balance between the shape of the face and teeth. Measurement of the lower anterior facial height is one of the vertical evaluations that has a close relation to a person's aesthetics and to orthodontic treatment. The width of the smile is the distance between the outer commissures of the lips. The aim of the study was to determine whether there is or no correlation between lower facial height and smile width in the Balinese at FKG Mahasaraswati Denpasar University. This study was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional design using a sample of 50 Balinese subjects aged 18-25 years at FKG Mahasaraswati Denpasar University. The sample used in this study was taken by simple random sampling technique based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collecting was done by direct measurement of the sample using calipers to measure the lower facial height and the width of the smile. The results showed a significant correlation between lower facial height and smile width with a significance value of 0.028 (p ≤0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.312 . A positive correlation indicates that the greater the lower facial height value, the greater the smile width value tends to be.

Abstract

Root canal calsification can occur due to prolonged trauma, aging, or restorations with pressure on the teeth for a long time, and causes root canal obstructed. The purpose of this case report to evaluate the results of root canal treatment with obstructed root canal post amalgam restoration, continue with unimetrix post and PFM crown. Thirty three years old female patient has come to dental clinic to treat her left mandibular molar tooth that have big amalgam restoration in the occlusal and tooth fracture at lingual side, but there was no pain when he came. Clinical examination on tooth 36 is necrosis pulpa. Radiographs showed radiopaque area from occlusal until pulp chamber floor and no periapical lesions were found. Rewalling lingual wall was done before the procedure of multivisit root canal treatment with EDTA, that consists of three obstructed root canal. Preparation and insertion of tapered self threading dowel (unimetrix, Dentsply) and build up core with cement resin at once. Core preparation were done for PFM jacket crown, and then mold with irreversible hydrocolloid for maxilla and double impression material for the mandible. PFM jacket crown was cemented using resin cement. The evaluation after six months, there were no complaints of pain and good marginal adaptation of restoration has performed. Selection cases and the right diagnosis with treatment procedures and adequate restoration, root canal treatment can be effective and durable.

Abstract

Teeth post root canal treatment (RCT) would be very brittle because it has lost moisture and most of the hard tissue, so they need a restoration. Ceramopolymer is one of the choosen material for posterior onlay restoration recently. A tooth with subgingival caries often pose problems. Non adequat restoration can cause secondary caries and a failed restoration. The aim of this case report is to demonstrate a succeed treatment of crown lengthening with ceramopolymer onlay as post RCT restoration on maxilla secondary molar with irreversible pulpitis. A 30-year-old female patient was referred for RCT on the maxillary right second molar with irreversible pulpitis. RCT, crown lengthening and indirect onlay had been performed. Teeth that have taken RCT needs an restoration and ceramopolymer is a material that can be chosen. Ceramopolymer is an indirect restoration filled with 73% micro-fine ceramic. It combines the advantages of composite and ceramics so it provides a highly strong but elastic restoration for posterior teeth. Surgical crown lengthening can be done to gain access to subgingival area and cleaning the caries site and also to give an adequat tooth preparation. Crown lengthening with ceramopolymer onlay as post RCT restoration on maxilla secondary molar showed a successful treatment outcome.

Abstract

Gingival enlargement is an increase in gingival size which is a common feature of gingival disease. One of the treatment for gingival is gingivectomy. The purpose of deciding gingivectomy is to remove the gingival tissue which is a pocket wall to enhance visibility and accesbility for self cleaning. A 30 years old female patient presents gingiva that appear enlarged in the lower anterior region. The patient has a history of using fixed orthodontic appliances for 2 years. Gingival enlargement is in the right canine to the left canine. Gingivectomy has performed with conventional techniques using a scalpel. Two weeks control results showed satisfactory results where there was no enlargement of the gingiva. Orthodontic appliances are one of the factors that initiating gingival enlargement. Plaque increased can caused gingival enlargement. Increased pocket depth will cause plaque accumulation and this condition will continue to recur. The diagnosis of enforcement based on etiological decisions is very important in the gingival enlargement treatment requirements.

Abstract

Tooth extraction and periodontal disease is the most common cause of alveolar bone resorption. A technique has developed to gain the bone volume back, called Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). GBR combine the application of bone graft particles and a barrier membrane, to protect bone regeneration from soft tissue invasion that grows faster. Collagen, pericardium, and cortical membranes are resorbable membranes that can be used in the GBR technique. Blood is an essential component of any regeneration that takes place in human body. Before the membrane is applied, it is usually be rehydrated with saline to flex the membrane so that easily applied. To observe the effect of saline rehydration on the O type blood adsoption speed on collagen, pericardium, and cortical membranes. Collagen, pericardium, and cortical membranes each 14 membranes and 2×1.5 cm in size were divided into two groups, 7 samples for group membranes without saline rehydration and 7 samples for group membranes with saline rehydration. Each group samples were submerged in 75 ml blood. The measurement of the O type blood adsorption speed was examined in 10 minutes for each group. The data was analyzed using Independent T-Test and resulted a significance value of less than 0.05 (Sig<0.05). It shows a significant difference between the control group and the treatment group. There is a difference in the speed of type O blood adsorption between collagen, pericardium, and cortical membranes with and without saline rehydration.Membrane with saline rehydration has a faster blood adsorption speed so that it is less good as a barrier membrane.

Abstract

When tooth loss occurs, the absence of mechanical stimulus on alveolar ridge, the decline occurred because the height of the alveolar ridge undergoes a slow physiological resorption. The purpose of this research is to know the difference and the average height of the mandibular alveolar ridge in edentulous and dentate women using panoramic radiography. The method of this research is an analytical method with cross-sectional approach. Total sample of 40 women, edentulous and dentate has been measured. Measurements were made by measuring the distance between the lowest point of mandibula and alveolar crest mandibula on the incisor point, right and left premolar, right and left molar. Statistical test is done using independent t test. The results showed that the average value of a dentate women sample is greater than edentulous. Average value obtained by the dentate sample is greatest in right premolar point by 29,53 mm ± 2,36 mm and the smallestat the left molar point by 25,48 mm ± 2,41 mm. Average value obtained by the edentulous sample is greatest in right molar point by 22,26 mm ± 3,67 mm and the smallest at the left premolar point by 21,21 mm ± 4,79 mm. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the height of the mandibular alveolar ridge on edentulous sample and dentate in everypoint of measurement. The average height of the mandibular alveolar ridge in edentulous sample is 21,78 mm ± 3,88 mm and the dentate sample is 27,71 mm ± 2,77

Abstract

A 22-year-old male patient came to the Unud Hospital with complaints of 2 upper front teeth fractured. The patient complains pain in his upper right first incisor when he consumes cold beverages. Patient’s upper left lateral incisor felt spontaneous pain at first and had already been treated by a dentist, but the patient did not know the type of treatment he was receiving. The tooth now has never felt pain. Patients are now treated with mesial-distal class IV composite restorations in the upper right first incisor and endodontic treatment in the upper left lateral incisor continued by Richmond post, core and crown (PFM) restoration. One week evaluation after treatment showed the desired result which is the loss of subjective and objective complaints of the patient.

Abstract

Tooth extraction is a common practice in dentistry. Tooth extraction will cause injuries that need healing before they can return to the physiological state of the oral cavity. Snail mucus contains beta agglutinin (antibodies) in plasma (serum), achasin protein, glycoconjugate and sulfate levels which can accelerate wound healing by increasing the mobilization of macrophage cells on day 5 after tooth extraction. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of snail mucus on the number of macrophage cells in wound healing after extraction of guinea pigs. The research method used was pure experimental research using 32 guinea pigs as samples. Guinea pigs were divided into 2 (two) groups: the control group was given 2% CMC-Na gel and the treatment group was given snail mucus after having been extracted. Calculation of the number of macrophages is done on the 5th day. The results showed the mean number of macrophage cells in the control group was 13.06 cells, and the treatment group was 17.44 cells. After being analyzed using the Independent t-test with significance ρ <0.05, it was found that there were significant differences in the number of macrophage cells in the test group and the control group. From this study it can be concluded that snail mucus is effective in increasing the number of macrophage cells in the process of wound healing after tooth extraction. Abstract

ABSTRACT Tooth size determines a person's aesthetics. Some guidelines that can help in determining the size of the maxillary anterior teeth are pre-extraction instructions such as facial photographs, diagnostic models, radiographic photographs, and extracted teeth. If the instructions before extraction are not obtained then an ideal proportionis needed. This study aims to determine whether or not thereis a relationship between the width and high of the face to the mesiodistal and cervico incisal of the maxillary central incisors and what is the proportion of these teeth. This research is a analytic observasional research with design of crosssectional, using samples of 47 subjects from Bali'sTrobe age 17_25 at Facultyof Dentistry in Unmas Denpasar. The resul to research show a significant correlation between face width and high to the size of mesiodistal and servico incisal of the maxillary centralincisorson Bali'sTrobe. The proportion of face and teeth of Balinese belonging to the Mongoloid race was obtain 1 :1,639 and mesiodistal and cervicoincisal of the maxillary central incisors where1 : 1,6409
