Abstract

Virtual Communities of Practice (VCoP) in the era of digital transformation have become a strategic asset for organizational knowledge management. Public relations play a crucial role as communication managers; however, operational standards integrating digital norms remain fragmented. Public relations play a crucial role as communication managers, but operational standards that integrate digital norms into this role remain fragmented. This study aims to build an ontology model capable of mapping the structure of digital norms. It also seeks to define the functional dynamics of public relations' role in moderating knowledge flows in a VCoP. This study uses an ontology engineering methodology consisting of the stages of specification, knowledge acquisition, conceptualization, logic formalization, and evaluation. Knowledge is acquired from the literature on knowledge management, digital citizenship, and strategic communication theory. This model is formalized using predicate logic in the form of axioms to describe interactions between entities. This study produces an ontology model consisting of four main classes: actors, digital norms, knowledge activities, and information assets. The functional dynamics of this model are mapped through five main axioms, three of which define the role of public relations. These axioms include the role of gatekeeper through the validity axiom, law enforcer through the legal intervention axiom, and facilitator through the social stimulation axiom. The evaluation results show that this ontology is able to answer competency questions related to information governance in virtual communication. This mapping proves that the role of public relations is shifting from mere moderators to information architects who ensure the security and credibility of organizational knowledge. Practically, this model can be adopted by organizations as a logical basis for developing decision support systems in community moderation and the preparation of structured ethical guidelines.

Abstract

Research on government political communication on social media has predominantly focused on electoral contexts, with limited empirical attention to disaster management in developing countries, where crisis communication plays a critical role in sustaining public trust. This study examines the influence of government political communication exposure through social media on public trust during disaster management in Sumatra in 2025, with government image positioned as a mediating variable. Adopting a quantitative explanatory design, data were collected through an online survey of 250 active social media users who had been exposed to government disaster-related content. Data were analyzed using multiple regression and mediation analysis with a bootstrapping approach. The results demonstrate that exposure to government political communication on social media has a positive and significant effect on public trust and a significant effect on government image. Furthermore, mediation analysis confirms that government image partially mediates the relationship between political communication exposure and public trust. These findings indicate that the effectiveness of digital political communication in disaster contexts is not determined solely by message frequency, but by its capacity to construct a credible, competent, and responsive government image. This study contributes empirically to the literature on digital political communication and crisis communication by advancing a stimulus-image-trust model, highlighting the central role of government image in shaping public trust during large-scale disasters.

Abstract

Social media has become a new public space enabling religious discourse to occur openly, participatorily, and beyond traditional institutional boundaries. This study aims to analyze how social media function as discursive arenas for discussing religion, as well as how religious practices are transformed through digital mediation. This is a descriptive qualitative study using a case study approach, namely content analysis of YouTube social media the Login program, and the Download program, based on Jürgen Habermas' public sphere theory. Data were obtained through observation of predetermined social media content by observing the dynamics of actors, forms of religious expression, and the epistemological implications of the shift in religious authority in the digital era. The findings indicate that these programs function as digital spaces that facilitate the dissemination of religious knowledge through accessible, engaging, and dialogic formats. The discourse also emphasizes emotional aspects, appreciation, expressions, humor, and jokes. However, the extent to which these platforms fulfill the criteria of an ideal public sphere remains contingent upon depth of critical discussion and the openness to diverse perspectives.

Abstract

Films serve as crucial mass communication media for conveying messages to audiences. Suzume is an anime film about the journey of Iwato Suzume and Munakata Souta in closing dimensional-gates and preventing Mimizu from causing disasters. This study analyzes earthquake disaster mitigation symbols in the Japanese anime film Suzume using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach by describing the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings of disaster symbols. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing observation and documentation of key film scenes representing disaster mitigation through three layers of meaning: (1) Denotation as the act of closing and locking the dimensional gates, (2) Connotation as efforts to reduce disaster impact through structural and nonstructural mitigation, and (3) Myths related to Japanese cultural beliefs about gates, keys, gods, and Namazu. These symbols emphasize the importance of structural (physical preparation) and non-structural (knowledge-based) mitigation in earthquake management.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of communication strategies used in sexuality education programs in improving elementary school students’ understanding of self-protection against sexual abuse. The research was conducted at SDN 1 Bojongkerta Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, using a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 21 sixth-grade students, who completed both the pretest and posttest, were selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with a significance level of 0.05. Only one indicator the ability to distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate touch showed a statisticslly significant improvement (Z = -2.100; p = 0.036), while the remaining indicators, across eight measured indicators, including the ability to refuse uncomfortable touch (p = 0.480) and willingness to report to trusted adults (p >.999), did not show significant differences between pretest and posttest scores. These findings indicate that the communication strategies applied were only partially effective, particularly in improving students’ cognitive understanding of the concrete concepts. However, they were less effective in influencing broader behavioral and emotional aspects, which require continuous reinforcement and repeated exposure. This study highlights the importance of developing sustained and interactive communication strategies in sexual education programs to achieve more comprehensive behavioral change among elementary school students.

Abstract

The rapid growth of internet users in Indonesia not only has positive impacts but also increases the risk of of Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV). Inadequate digital literacy increases the vulnerability of social media users to violence and privacy violations in the digital space. The study aims to explore the potential for KGBO and identify various forms of violence experienced by Second Account users on Instagram. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was employed to explore the subjective experiences of Second Account users who were victims of violence, through various Instagram features such as direct messages, comments, or the sharing of inappropriate content. The findings of this study reveal that the digital space is not entirely safe, control over self-image is vulnerable to manipulation, and the risk of violence is experienced across genders, by both women and men. The impact of KGBO manifests itself in the form of psychological disturbances in the real world, including chronic anxiety, depression, loss of a sense of security, and fear of self-expression.
