Abstract

This study examines the role of communication technology in enhancing collaboration among Public Relations and Digital Communication students at Sang Bumi Ruwa Jurai University, particularly in supporting da'wah and promoting Islamic values. Using a qualitative case study approach with ten purposively selected participants, data was collected through in-depth interviews and observations, analyzed thematically. Findings highlight the significant role of technologies like Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and Google Drive in improving collaboration efficiency and flexibility, enabling real-time discussions and overcoming time and location barriers in da'wah contexts. However, challenges such as technical issues and difficulty building virtual interpersonal relationships were noted. The study recommends improving technology access, technical training, and supportive policies to optimize technology use in collaborative da'wah activities. These insights inform strategies for developing technology-based learning in higher education, particularly in Islamic communication, equipping students with essential skills for the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze interpersonal communication in Surah An-Nahl verse 125 based on the views of two mufasirs, namely Imam At-Thabari as a representation of classical interpretation and Fazlur Rahman as a representation of modern interpretation. This study aims to identify similarities and differences in the interpretations of the two mufasirs and explore their relevance to Islamic interpersonal communication theory. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. The primary data sources used are Jami' al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur'an by At-Thabari and Major Themes of the Qur'an by Fazlur Rahman. The results showed that Imam At-Thabari emphasized the importance of wisdom as revelation-based wisdom, mau'izhah hasanah as gentle and heartfelt advice, and mujadalah bi allati hiya ahsan as a dialogue based on justice and empathy. On the other hand, Fazlur Rahman offers a modern approach by highlighting contextual and humanist aspects, such as the importance of understanding the culture, psychology, and social conditions of the audience in delivering da'wah messages. This approach is relevant in answering communication challenges in the increasingly complex era of globalization. This research makes an academic contribution by combining classical and modern interpretations in the context of Islamic interpersonal communication theory, as well as offering practical guidance in effective Islamic da'wah that is in accordance with the values of the Islamic religion.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of prophetic da'wah in improving the quality of life of the congregation at the Jogokariyan Mosque, Yogyakarta. Prophetic da'wah, which is based on the values of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, involves a holistic approach in integrating the spiritual, social and economic aspects of people's lives. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to explore the impact of prophetic preaching on various aspects of congregational life. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with mosque administrators, community leaders and congregants, as well as direct observation of da'wah activities in mosques. The research results show that the implementation of prophetic preaching at the Jogokariyan Mosque has had a significant positive impact, including increasing spiritual awareness, improving social relations between congregations, as well as increasing economic prosperity through economic empowerment programs initiated by the mosque. This research also found that although there are challenges in implementing prophetic preaching, such as limited resources and resistance to change, effective strategies and active participation from the congregation can overcome these obstacles. These findings provide recommendations for other mosques to adopt the principles of prophetic da'wah in an effort to improve the quality of life of the congregation as a whole.

Abstract

This research aims to critically analyze the representation of the meaning of piety in Subuh prayer memes on the internet. This research is important to carry out because many memes have been found with Islamic themes or Islamic da’wah, which carry various meanings of gender ideology, conservatism, religion, religious liberalism, and other related concepts. The theoretical framework employed in this research is meanings and media, which comprises four distinct concepts: semiotics, structuralism, denotation and connotation, and code (including myth and ideology). This study uses a qualitative content analysis method with semiotic analysis as the primary approach. The data were collected through purposive sampling, focusing on four (4) memes with the theme of Subuh prayers and their relation to social phenomena, namely New Year celebrations, watching football, the lunar eclipse and the soap opera Eclipse, as well as Eid al-Fitr celebrations. This research found that Subuh prayer memes on the internet use various texts which signify the ideological struggle of conservative Islamic groups. Popular culture and local culture for conservative Islamic groups must be rejected because it is the reason why Muslims do not perform the Subuh prayer in congregation at the mosque. The meanings of denotation, connotation, and structuralism are the aspirations to construct a structure based on unadulterated Islamic tenets that are not mixed with popular culture or local culture. In code, Subuh prayer memes on the internet represent the mythical and ideological struggle of conservative Islamic groups who want to build a society based on pure Islamic teachings.

Abstract

A strong family is the foundation of a harmonious and prosperous society. However, the increasing cases of domestic violence indicate ongoing problems in family dynamics, which may be influenced by the imbalance of education between husband and wife. Such disparities can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts that threaten household harmony. This study aims to explore the role of Islamic da'wah in preventing domestic violence by promoting balanced education and strengthening awareness of the rights and responsibilities between spouses. Using a qualitative approach through a literature review of key Islamic sources—such as Qur’anic interpretation (tafsir), hadith, and works of contemporary Muslim scholars—this research highlights the moral and ethical teachings of Islam on compassion, justice, and mutual responsibility in family life. The findings show that Islamic da'wah that emphasizes understanding of balanced education, respectful communication, and the internalization of Islamic values can significantly contribute to reducing the potential for domestic violence and fostering harmonious families. Unlike previous studies that focused primarily on doctrinal aspects, this study offers a novel perspective by emphasizing the transformative role of da'wah in promoting educational equality within the family. Thus, reinforcing Islamic da'wah becomes a strategic step in addressing the complexity of modern family challenges.

Abstract

The film “Tuhan, Ijinkan Aku Berdosa” represents the relationship of power and resistance in the social and religious context of Indonesian society. This study aims to analyze how power is interpreted, exercised, and resisted in the film’s narrative, and how this representation is related to the function of film as a medium of da’wah that conveys moral and religious values. This study uses a qualitative approach with text analysis design, symbolic representation analysis techniques, and Michel Foucault’s theory of power. An anthropological perspective is applied by reading the film as a cultural artifact that reflects the social dynamics of society, especially in terms of views on sin, repentance, and moral authority. The results of the analysis show that power in the film appears as a mechanism of oppressive social control as well as a trigger for spiritual transformation. Religious values and repentance rituals function as forms of symbolic resistance and become part of a da’wah strategy that is relevant to the modern social context. This study contributes to the study of film as a space for the representation of power as well as a medium for communicative and transformative da’wah.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia, with Jember Regency reporting a prevalence rate of 3.49%. In response, Fatayat NU Jember—a women’s wing of Nahdlatul Ulama—has expanded its da’wah efforts to include health promotion, particularly maternal and child nutrition. This study explores how Islamic-based digital da’wah is utilized to communicate stunting prevention through @fatayatnujember’s Instagram content. Drawing on Holsti’s content analysis framework, six posts published in 2024 that explicitly address stunting and related health topics were identified through systematic observation and examined qualitatively. Findings reveal that the account integrates Islamic values with gender-sensitive health education to promote awareness during the critical first 1,000 days of life. However, the content tends to be expository and retrospective, focusing primarily on organizational activities rather than audience mobilization. Posts lack interactive elements, call-to-action strategies, or dialogic engagement, resulting in limited user interaction and feedback. This study highlights the underutilized potential of digital religious communication for public health advocacy and suggests that Islamic organizations can enhance their digital engagement strategies by incorporating participatory and campaign-oriented content. The research contributes to the growing discourse on the intersection of religion, digital media, and public health in Indonesia, particularly within the context of gender-responsive Islamic activism.

Abstract

This article discusses the phenomenon of hybrid religious engagement among Generation Z students at the Riyadlatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Batanghari, East Lampung. Born and raised in the digital era, Gen Z students not only interact with traditional religious authorities in the Islamic boarding school environment, but also actively access, interpret, and distribute religious narratives from various digital platforms. This study aims to examine how students negotiate their religious beliefs, practices, and identities amidst the tension between Islamic boarding school traditions and digital religious populism. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method and data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews with six informants, male and female students. The results of the study indicate that the consumption patterns of digital content by students are selective, reflective, and adaptive. The tension between traditional authority (such as yellow books and kiai fatwas) and digital narratives (viral preaching, instant interpretation) gives rise to a complex dialectic, but at the same time encourages the construction of a new religious identity called "digital students." In this case, students are not merely in a passive position, but rather active as epistemological and cultural mediators who try to integrate traditional heritage with contemporary Islamic expressions. This article concludes that Gen Z religiosity in Islamic boarding schools has undergone a significant transformation towards a form of fluid, contextual, and multidimensional involvement, while also marking the importance of a new reading of the dynamics of young generation Islam in a digital context.
