Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential and preferences for abstention by urban students as young voters in the 2024 elections in Indonesia. This context tends to be ignored in previous studies that discuss the phenomenon of abstention in general elections. In addition to responding to the shortcomings of previous studies, this study also focuses on the characteristics and preferences underlying urban students as young voters choose to abstain in the 2024 general election in Indonesia. The findings in this study show that the age characteristics of urban students in the Yogyakarta area tend to choose to abstain from voting and appear in the productive age range of around 20 years from 27 provinces of origin. In addition to appearing with such complex characteristics, the behaviors of urban students who tend to abstain are also influenced by the dominant political preferences of their social structure, access to information, and their perceptions of the ongoing democratic system in the 2024 general elections in Indonesia. From these findings, it can be reflected that the abstention of urban students as young voters is not only temporal but also a rational choice of the regulatory system and the democratic process in such a complex general election.

Abstract

This research scrutinizes Abu Ala Maududi's pivotal thesis on the Islamic State (IS), encompassing its theological underpinnings, contextual genesis, and organizational structure. This study evaluates Maududi's justification of the state by examining key Quranic principles and his reinterpretation of fundamental terms. It contrasts his model with Western democracy, emphasizing its ideological and monolithic nature. This research explores Maududi's nuanced governance approach, legislative bodies, and the role of non-Muslims in the Islamic State. Facing rejection, Maududi aligned his vision with the political shifts in colonial India. The article acknowledges ongoing scholarly discourse and underscores the lasting impact of Maududi's Islamic State thesis, providing a comprehensive understanding of its multifaceted vision in the interconnection between theology, politics, and governance.

Abstract

The results of the 2019 elections placed four political parties with a muslim constituent base PKB, PKS, PAN, and PPP into the parliament. The objectives of this research is to describe the accessibility of women in the membership and leadership of political parties, as well as their efforts to increase women's representation in public offices by Islamic mass-based political parties. This research was conducted using a feminist research methodology, which uses a qualitative research methods such as document analysis, literature review, and interviews. The findings are analyzed using feminist institutional theory, indicating that gender interest accommodation in the four mass-based Islamic political parties is weakly institutionalized. This is due to the formal regulations at the state level being implemented very weakly within the internal structures of political parties. The weakness of these formal regulations cannot be detached from the influence of informal institutions, where decision-making considerations often revert to gender-biased views resistant to positive gender-based changes.

Abstract

Google Trends is an alternative and effective tool for predicting candidate popularity and election results with a simple method. This research aims to analyze and compare the popularity of Indonesia's 2024 presidential candidates using Google Trends. This research uses Google Trends as a tool. Data is taken from December 2022-December 2023 with the keywords 'Anies Baswedan', 'Ganjar Pranowo', and 'Prabowo Subianto. Crowed data is visualized using facilities provided by Google Trends, Canva and  Flourish Studio's Data Visualization Software with three focus analyses: Interest over time, Interest by Region, and Related queries. The findings of this research show that the trend of searching for information about Indonesia's 2024 presidential candidates has been crowded since October 2022 and increased significantly until December 2023. The popularity of Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo on Google Trends was the same when each candidate made a declaration. Anies gained full popularity with 100 achievements, as well as Ganjar Pranowo gained full popularity when declared by Megawati Soekarno Putri with 100 achievements. However, the facts were very much different on the day when the Gerinda Party declared Prabowo Subianto. Prabowo's popularity when measured by Google Trends is only perched at position 30 while other candidates are above Prabowo, namely Ganjar 100 and Anies 78. Prabowo's popularity rose on August 13, 2022, which managed to get 100, Anies rose to 79 and Ganjar dropped to 57 even though it was only one day apart. These three candidates have different voter bases in the 2024 presidential election. Anies Baswedan's searchers on Google Trends are spread almost throughout the province. While Ganjar Pranowo excelled in Central Java, while West Papua, Maluku and Sulawesi many wanted to know Prabowo Subianto's information.

Abstract

Russia and the United States have been in the New START agreement for 13 years. A year before the agreement expired, the two countries agreed to extend the agreement until 2026. However, in early 2023, Russia officially announced that it was temporarily stopping its involvement in the New START agreement. This article uses the neoclassical realism analytical framework from Ripsman et.al. This article was prepared using a qualitative-deductive approach. Supported by primary data sources which include official state documents and statements by state officials and secondary sources in the form of scientific works, expert opinions and sources from third parties. The data is processed based on illustrative analysis. The findings in this article are that Russia's withdrawal from the New START agreement was caused by changes in the security environment caused by the US; Vladimir Putin's aggressive personality; a Russian form of government that gives the president full authority over his foreign policy; and Russia's strategic culture is perceived with threat and superiority. This article recommends internal factors as drivers of a country's foreign policy. Keywords: NEW START; Russia; US; Foreign Policy.

Abstract

In the recent elections, money politics has become one of the topics of public interest. Money politics is used to win large numbers of votes and maintain control of Pilkada. This research aims to provide solutions to avoid money politics in the Simultaneous Regional Elections in Palu City in 2020, as well as examine the elements that encourage and hinder the prevention of money politics in the regional elections. This study uses a qualitative approach. Using observation, interviews, and documentation studies as data collection methods. Miles and Huberman's approach to data analysis includes data collection, data reduction, data display, and data verification. Based on the findings, the policy strategy used in money politics is carried out through four efforts: dissemination of violations, participatory supervision, surveillance patrols, and firm law enforcement.

Abstract

This research examines the role of ecofeminism in the Wadon Wadas movement's resistance to the Bener Dam project in Central Java, Indonesia. The study aims to highlight the gap between national development policies and their implementation, with a focus on environmental and gender issues in large-scale infrastructure projects. It also explores how the women's voices in the Wadon Wadas movement reflect broader injustices in the development process. A qualitative approach was used, involving direct interviews with Wadas Village residents and snowball sampling to gather insights from key informants. The data was analyzed using a social theory perspective to deepen the understanding of the findings. The results show that the Wadon Wadas movement, led by women, embodies ecofeminism by linking environmental protection with the fight against gender marginalization. The resistance against the Bener Dam project highlights a significant disconnect between national development goals and the real-life experiences of local communities, especially women. The study also reveals that the government's top-down approach, with limited community involvement, exacerbates tensions and fails to support sustainable development. The research suggests the need for more inclusive and adaptive policies, like the Dynamic Socio-Spatial approach, to better balance development with environmental and social justice.

Abstract

This study explores the role of NGOs in the governance of food estate projects in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The food estate program aims to boost national food production but faces significant environmental and social challenges due to its implementation on fragile peatland ecosystems. Past projects have led to severe environmental degradation and social conflicts, raising concerns about the sustainability and inclusiveness of the current initiative. Using a qualitative research approach, this study analyzes how NGOs influence food estate policies and their strategies for promoting good environmental governance. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews with stakeholders, field observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that NGOs significantly impact policy formulation and implementation by providing scientific data, advocating for community rights, and ensuring independent oversight. Their involvement enhances policy effectiveness, promotes sustainability, and fosters social equity, highlighting the importance of collaborative governance in addressing complex environmental and social issues
