Abstract

Teachers hold strategic roles in the education system, and their career success is important to make sure they are strongly motivated at work. The big five personality is one of the personality approaches to form one’s subjective career success. This study aimed to identify the role of each dimension of the big five personality in affecting teachers’ subjective career success in Indonesia. To this end, the subjective career success inventory and personality item pool-big five factor makers were employed. This quantitative correlational study involved 320 teachers as respondents. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression test. The result showed that dimensions of extraversion (p<0.000), agreeableness (p<0.000), and conscientiousness (p<0.001) influence Indonesian teachers’ subjective career success. These three dimensions show that teachers in Indonesia tend to have personalities related to other people’s acceptance or awareness of their social environment to attain subjective career success. Such personalities help them consider their personality and its aspects in evaluating their career.

Abstract

The upsurge in Malaysia’s Industrial Revolution 4.0 (4IR) is in line with the changes in the global education environment. One of the latest approaches in the education field is learning analytics (LA). The use of LA in Google Classroom (GC) as the learning platform that measures, collects, analyses data and reports information about students to help teachers improve teaching and learning (T&L). This study aimed to determine the factors of teachers’ technology acceptance as the predictor for use LA in GC among the teachers in secondary schools. It is done by observing 304 teachers in daily secondary schools in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. The research instrument used was online questionnaire using Google Form, which data were collected and analyses by using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 26.0. The findings from this study show that the use of GC, teachers’ perceived usefulness and behavioral intention were the predictors that influenced the performance of LA in GC. This study hoped to provide a description and contribute a required alternative for the Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia and the schools in designing an effective strategy that can help teachers monitor the suitability of using LA in GC during teaching and learning.

Abstract

One of the most attractive instruments in science education is digital simulation. The investigations were conducted utilizing a pre-test and post-test methodology with Moroccan students enrolled in the second year of the natural sciences option secondary certificate at the Abdellah Laroui High School in the city of Fez. In this paper, we assess the effects of including a digital simulation on high school students’ understanding of RLC (a linear circuit containing an electrical resistance, an inductor, and a capacitor) (25 students). There is a substantial difference between the means of the tests administered to the control (M-Cont) and experimental (M-Exp) classes (M-Exp-M-Cont=15.32–3.08=2.24>0), based on a student’s analysis of the two classes’ test scores using a t-test. This study found that using a digital simulation in an educational setting allows for the acknowledgment of the added value and has a favorable impact on student learning, notably in the study of free oscillations in an RLC circuit.

Abstract

Students are the backbone to future leadership and the catalyst for the success of a country. Hence, student leadership with high self-resilience should be shaped and built as early as possible. Student leaders with low self-resilience will portray negative feelings and not able to play a full role. To identify student leadership practices and their relationship with national secondary school students’ resilience in the eastern zone states of Malaysia, this quantitative survey study used questionnaires adapted from the inventory of student leadership practices (S-LPI) to measure the dimensions of student leadership on 394 students selected through cluster random sampling while a self-resilience questionnaire was used to measure students’ level of self-resilience. Using the statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 26 for descriptive data and partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM 3) for inferential statistics, the results showed that the dimensions of inspire a shared vision, challenge a processes and enable to act were dimensions of student leadership practices that had significantly affected self-resilience while student leadership practices with flexible, orderly self-resilience and prioritizing social relationships in organizations were factors for shaping future leaders.

Abstract

The productivity of lecturers’ scientific work is an important factor in career advancement, quality of study programs, and university rankings. The research aimed to strengthen and optimize the productivity of lecturers’ scientific work. The research method used is modeling and steering optimization (POP-SDM), data analysis using path analysis by looking for mathematical model equations. Scientific Identification Theory of Operation Research in Education Management (SITOREM) analysis is carried out to improve weak indicators and maintain strong indicators. The research was conducted on lecturers at private universities as many as 197 respondents. The qualitative research findings indicate that creativity, academic culture, knowledge management, and professional commitment were mentioned in the interviews. The results of quantitative research prove that creativity, academic culture, knowledge management, and professional commitment affect the productivity of lecturers’ scientific work. Research finds novelty through the SITOREM approach, by conducting an analysis to identify indicators of the variables studied in order to determine indicators that are good enough to be maintained and indicators that are still weak and need to be improved. The SITOREM approach can be in the form of a model for developing scientific papers for lecturers as a model of behavior, constellation patterns, and guidelines for the productivity of scientific works produced by lecturers.

Abstract

Currently, the use of gamifiers as teaching tools in virtuality is present due to the digital education that is developed in Latin America. The objective was to determine the effects of two methodologies: i) Mixed gamification; and ii) Usefulness of virtual teaching tools, in the cognitive processes of poor school performance. The methodology was experimental, quantitative. The evaluation was carried out on 150 Spanish-speaking schoolchildren, grouped into three comparison groups (8.5 years of age ±0.4). They underwent 40 learning sessions with the D-S-F methodology (dynamics, strategy, feedback). The validated instruments were three performance tests on the areas of mathematics, science and communication. Significant results were obtained in cognitive processes from the activities designed with mixed gamification, although the effects were not decisive in the area of communication. It is concluded that gamification reduces low performance to raise cognitive processes for logical reasoning, cognitive deduction in mathematics, skills to generate hypotheses in science; and those of reading and oral expression. It is suggested to develop experiments with variables that include a digital evaluation of text writing, to avoid the limitations presented in this research.

Abstract

This study discussed Darmasiswa program as Indonesia’s public diplomacy effort in the educational fields conducted by the Republic Indonesia Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud RI). Despite its vast opportunities, Indonesia still has difficulties attracting international students compared to various neighboring countries. By analyzing the seven pillars of public diplomacy, supported by international communication and industry 4.0 concept, this study showed that Kemendikbud has considered the seven pillars in public diplomacy in conducting public diplomacy efforts. It is found that Darmasiswa is a state-directed effort designed to enhance favorable international relations through the student movement’s positive experience. The strategy is formed by uses various types of communication channels that support each other’s. The message is also processed by involving policy and rationality by prioritizing consistent, truthful, and credible as part of the main elements. Besides, they form strategies by maximizing cooperation with various parties. In Kemendikbud, the program undertakes audience research and actors from 1st and 2nd track diplomacy as part of its tactics. The program also found that public diplomacy in Darmasiswa program has acknowledged changes in the 4.0 era through new media usage. However, there are still many challenges encountered in the performance of the seven pillars.

Abstract

The general learning behavior has a major impact on the psychological and mental adjustment of students to learn. Therefore, this study reviews relevant studies on the factors causing changes in student learning behavior. The review used PRISMA, so several stages were carried out to filter and collect relevant information. The results of the synthesis revealed 19 broad factors influencing student learning behavior. Furthermore, these factors can be seen in more detail in four main groupings: i) Student learning behavior in the classroom; ii) Student learning behavior outside the classroom; iii) Student learning motivation; and iv) Student learning behavior results. Student learning behavior in the classroom is influenced by motivation, reflection, learning satisfaction, and learning activities. Meanwhile, student learning behavior outside the classroom is influenced by technology, independent learning abilities, learning resources, learning environment, and students’ internal conditions. The final result showed that students with a positive learning environment consistently acquire good knowledge in achieving learning objectives. There are many challenges in forming good student learning behavior. Therefore, this study benefits the education experts, counselors, teachers, parents, and the learning environment by increasing student motivation and satisfaction in learning to minimize the negative impact of changes in student learning behavior.

Abstract

A review of the recent studies about tertiary education student development reveals that when mentors do not practice effective relationships in mentoring programs regardless of how well designed the mentoring programs are, the goals will not be achieved. Even though many studies have been done, the role of mentoring relationships as a vital predicting variable is largely ignored in the tertiary education mentoring research literature. Hence, the current study is done to investigate the effect of mentoring relationships on mentees’ success. A cross-sectional method is used to collect survey questionnaires from undergraduate students in teaching-based universities in Sarawak. The SmartPLS is utilized to assess the quality of the study instrument and test the research hypotheses. The findings of the SmartPLS path model analysis reveal that implementation of comfortable communication and sufficient support by mentors in structured and unstructured mentoring activities has been an important antecedent of mentees’ career and leadership development. Thus, this finding may be used as significant guidelines by practitioners to understand diverse paradigms of mentoring relationship construct and planning collaborative and developmental mentoring programs to prepare mentees to become potential leaders in the 21st century of global market challenges and difficulties.

Abstract

COVID-19 has put a large impact on the education system all around the world. School, college and university students are forced to attend hybrid learning (HL) classes. This has posed challenges to the learners to adapt with the new learning system. The objective of this case study is to examine students’ perception on HL, in particular, the impacts on students’ learning experience. This study used survey as the methodology and the instrument for data collection is questionnaire. Data was collected from 93 students of five mathematics classes at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. Their perceptions in five learning aspects were analyzed, namely the accessibility to the online learning system, the effectiveness of both HL and face-to-face (f2f) learning, the pedagogical, technical and social aspects. The results have shown positive acceptance on HL and they enjoyed the new learning experience which uses both f2f and online mediums. This finding indicated that HL has a good potential to be extended to other courses at the university. This also indicated the opportunity for the university to enhance the teaching and learning methods and support the HL system in terms of moral and physical assistances.
