Abstract

Metacognition is essential in supporting students’ academic success, problem-solving abilities, and overall achievement. Therefore, this study aimed to provide a detailed description of metacognitive activities of students when engaging in contextual mathematical problem-solving. The participants comprised 11th-grade students from SMA Negeri 3 Jayapura, Papua Province, Indonesia. Descriptive and qualitative methods were adopted, and the data were collected using various test instruments and interview guidelines. Subsequently, the data were analyzed through the phases of reduction, presentation, as well as conclusions, and triangulation methods were used to ensure robustness and reliability. The results showed that metacognitive awareness occurred when students considered previous knowledge and experiences in solving contextual mathematical problem. Metacognitive evaluation activities occurred when relevant methods and steps were assessed, while metacognitive regulation manifested when contemplating the actions required to solve problem. This showed that students used various metacognitive activities, namely awareness, evaluation, and regulation, to address contextual mathematical problem.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to investigate factors of students’ non lecture attendance and administrative strategies used with a view to ascertain the extent of its implementation in universities in South-South states in Nigeria. A population of 22 universities from which a sample of six was drawn and 350 respondents; 50 lecturers and 300 students formed the sample size. The study was guided by three research questions and adopted the descriptive survey research design. A questionnaire was the instrument used for the study. It was divided into four subsections, which is part A, B, C and D. Its face and content validity were determined through expert judgment while the reliability index was determined using Cronbach alpha. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data collected. The findings revealed that emotional problems (3.93), sickness (3.71), finance (3.48), lecturers teaching skills (3.21) were key factors of non-lecture attendance. The main administrative strategies used were 75% policy on lecture attendance (3.33), administering short and unannounced quiz (3.24), provision of comfortable classrooms (3.30); while the strategies were sometimes used. The recommendations include counseling students and a 100% implementation of any policy adopted by individual universities.

Abstract

Online classroom management is considered essential for promoting student learning outcomes and engagement. This study examines the relationship between online classroom management and student learning outcomes, with student engagement as a mediator. A cross-sectional survey method was employed to collect data via questionnaires distributed through Google Forms. Respondents were selected using multi-stage cluster sampling from six universities in Beijing, China. A total of 400 valid questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively using SPSS to address the research questions. The findings indicate that online classroom management positively correlates with student engagement and learning outcomes. Moreover, student engagement significantly mediates the relationship between online classroom management and student learning outcomes. The study validates the model that online classroom management, mediated by student engagement, positively influences university students’ learning outcomes, thus supporting the research hypotheses based on the relationships among the variables. This study contributes to the integration of theory and enhances the understanding of the relationship between online classroom management and student learning outcomes. Additionally, it offers insights for policymakers and practitioners on how to support online classroom management and improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Environmental degradation in technological development is accelerating. Therefore, it requires environmental problem-solving skills. This study is aimed to determine university students’ learning style and skill to solve environmental problems based on gender and university location. In addition, this study also aims to find the correlation between learning styles, gender, and university location towards environmental problem-solving skills. The population of this study was the university student in Indonesia. This study employed a descriptive and correlational study. The researchers used the VARK test to find out the learning style. Meanwhile, the data on the environmental problem-solving skills collected by using a validated and tried out test instrument that refers to indicators from Ridhwan. The results of this study showed that the students’ learning styles tended to be visual at 50.49%. The environmental problem-solving skill was in the low category with an average score of 41.47. There was no any correlation between learning styles and gender with the ability to solve environmental problems, but in variable of university location, there was a significant correlation. This is because university differences are closely related to location differences and have an impact on access to learning facilities.

Abstract

Today, research is a crucial agenda of universities, and graduate education plays an important role in producing research, publications, and innovation. Thus, the quality of graduate education among Malaysian research universities must be enhanced by exploring the factors that contribute to the sustainability of graduate education. This is done systematically based on relevant literatures and experts’ opinions in graduate education. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify factors that contribute to the sustainability of graduate education among Malaysian research-based universities (RUs). Findings demonstrate that the factors are governance of graduate education, quality of supervision, quality of programs, quality of students, research facilities, research ecosystem, and financial assistance.

Abstract

The exponential progress and massive utilization of digital technologies has significant implications for leadership theory and for leadership practices that remain unexplored in the current literature. This study provides insights into the validity and reliability of the questionnaire for digital technologies and leadership practices (QDTLP), through research conducted in 215 elementary schools in the Peloponnese region of Greece. The research consists of three parts: i) a pilot study to assess the stability and reliability of the initial QDTLP version; ii) study 1 to examine the validity and reliability using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis; and iii) study 2 to further assess the validity and reliability using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The QDTLP was designed and developed after a systematic literature review in the field of digital technologies and school leadership practices, to investigate if, and to what extent, the utilization of digital technologies affects the leadership practices in elementary schools. The research findings provide strong evidence for content and construct validity as well as reliability of the 4-factor and 22-item QDTLP research instrument.

Abstract

Vocational education is crucial in bridging the gap between educational outcomes and labor market demands, significantly impacting employment rates and career prospects. The purpose of the study was to identify the acceptability of the entrepreneurship education model in Indonesian vocational schools. This paper explores the importance of vocational education in equipping individuals with job-ready skills, addressing challenges like long-term unemployment, and literacy skill disparities. It emphasizes the integration of entrepreneurship education to foster entrepreneurial intentions, competencies, and behaviors, crucial for sustainable economic growth, particularly in Indonesia. Utilizing a development model based on Borg and Gall, the study involves needs assessment, product development, and evaluation to craft an effective entrepreneurship education framework for vocational schools. Insights from vocational education experts, entrepreneurship practitioners or teachers, and entrepreneurs are integral to developing this model. The findings show that entrepreneurship education is acceptable to be implemented in Indonesian vocational schools. The proposed model focuses on characteristic Indonesian mindset formation, practical entrepreneurial skills, and active industry collaboration, aiming to prepare graduates for both employment and selfemployment. This research has implications for the transformation of vocational education in Indonesia by providing a strong framework that supports graduates’ transition to the world of work and encourages entrepreneurial efforts, thereby contributing to broader economic development and innovation.

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the pedagogical principles for building functional science literacy of school children in line with the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) by examining the performing countries in PISA. The statistical results of the PISA results reports of China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Estonia were compared with the results of Kazakhstan. It was concluded that students in the top-ranked countries actively participate in scientific activities, enjoy practicing scientific activities, exhibit high-level cognitive skills, test and monitor the results of scientific research, and compete in national and international activities. The economic status of the family, learning environment, discipline, school equipment, and the number of teachers in the school are among the factors affecting children’s science literacy. Teachers’ continuous participation in in-service trainings, keeping their motivation at a high level, choosing different teaching methods, encouraging students to conduct research and activating high-level cognitive skills were considered among the most important reasons for good results in science PISA research. It is recommended that countries that want to rank higher in an international platform such as PISA should implement student-centered activities in their educational reforms and create educational environments where students can test their high-level skills.

Abstract

This paper employs bibliometric analysis and visualization techniques, including VOS Viewer, to scrutinize trends in managing action research in schools. Utilizing a dataset of 337 articles sourced from Web of Science (WoS) until 2023, the study adheres to PRISMA guidelines to systematically examine authorship patterns, trends, and themes. The analysis reveals a surge in publication rates and a focus on collaborative problem-solving, inclusivity, and global perspectives, with notable contributions from journals like educational action research and authors (such as Wood). Diverse author collaborations and global representation underscore interconnected research themes. Additionally, four distinct clusters—knowledge and leadership, action research and engagement, caring and impact, and empowerment and participation—emerge, encapsulating action research management in schools. However, challenges such as limited discussion platforms, resource constraints, and contextual barriers persist, necessitating enhanced reflective practices and collaborative learning. While bibliometric analysis provides quantitative insights, the study advocates for complementing such approaches with qualitative methods to ensure a comprehensive understanding of action research management in schools, guiding future strategies in educational research.

Abstract

Along with easing COVID-19 restrictions, schools are reopening and starting face-to-face classes. Intending in-person instruction after a relatively long period after off-campus and online learning requires exploration. This study determined the factors that predict students’ intention to attend in-person instruction among graduate students. The responses of 178 college of education graduate students were gathered electronically using valid and reliable survey instruments. Findings showed that graduate students are moderately to highly satisfied with online learning but also highly intend to attend in-person instruction. The majority of graduate students think that it is unsafe and possible to spread COVID-19, and felt worried to less worried when school reopens. Multiple regression revealed that work status, perceived safety and worry about school reopening, and online learning satisfaction predicted intention to attend in-person instruction. School administrators should ensure the safety operation of schools should students return to campuses, especially when there are threats to their health and security.
