Abstract

Elderly or often called the elderly is an age group that is prone to health problems. The more a person gets older the experienced will cause all systems and functions to decrease. One function that has decreased is physiological function. This decrease in physiological function gives rise to non-communicable and communicable diseases. Some of the non-communicable diseases experienced by the elderly are hypertension, arthritis, stroke, and diabetes mellitus. Hypertension ranks first in health problems for the elderly. Hypertension or high blood pressure is when a person experiences an increase in blood pressure which is characterized by a systolic number of more than 140 mmHg and a diastolic number of more than 90 mmHg. Several treatments for lowering blood pressure can be carried out with pharmacological and non-pharmacological actions. This study aims to determine the benefits of soaking feet in warm water which can be used as a non-pharmacological treatment to reduce blood pressure. The literature review uses secondary data taken from Google Scholar. The results of this literature review present articles regarding the benefits of soaking feet in warm water to reduce blood pressure in elderly hypertensives.

Abstract

The role of parents is very important in having knowledge of the proper behavior of using First Aid Kits in treating injuries in toddlers. Toddlers aged 12-36 months are at risk of injury. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between the level of parental knowledge and the behavior of using First Aid Kits in treating injuries in toddlers. The research design is descriptive correlation with a cross sectional approach (cross tabulation). The research sample was 37 parents (respondents) who had toddler-aged children. In this study, the frequency distribution of the relationship (correlation) level of parental knowledge with the use of First Aid Kits showed that the majority of respondents were in the category with a “high” level of parental knowledge and the use of First Aid Kits in the "good" category was 11 (29.7%) respondent. From the results of the bivariate analysis research for the relationship (correlation) level of parental knowledge with the use of First Aid Kits in treating toddler-aged injuries, it is assumed that there is a relationship p-value = 0.01 (p = 0.01 < α = 0, 05, 95% significance value. For parents, it is hoped that they can complete the components and infrastructure of First Aid Kits so that they can handle injuries to toddlers in the household.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a non-communicable and chronic disease; this disease is also generally very closely related to people who are elderly and female. This study aims to determine the effect of age, body mass index, and blood sugar levels on the incidence of type 2 DM. The population of this study was 55,372, which was obtained from secondary data from the offline surveillance form SIPTM (Non-Communicable Disease Information System), Johar Baru Health Center, South Jakarta, 2020; the sample used total sampling. Data analysis using SPSS Ver.25, with bivariate (Chi-Square test) and multivariate (Logistic Regression Enter Method) analysis. The Chi-Square test results showed that the variables of age, body mass index, and blood sugar levels had an association with the incidence of Type 2 DM with a p-value <0.05. The multivariate test results showed that the most influential variable was the blood sugar level variable, with a p-value of 0.00, with OR = 93,302. This means that people with abnormal blood sugar levels have a 93,302 times chance of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus compared to people with normal blood sugar levels. Therefore, the most effective preventive measure for this disease is maintaining blood sugar levels in a normal state to avoid the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, namely by diligently checking blood sugar levels and maintaining a healthy diet and life.

Abstract

Sectio caesarea (SC) is a surgical process to deliver a fetus through incisions made in the abdominal wall and uterus so that the fetus can be born healthy and intact. Caesarean section has life-threatening risks, one of which is the risk of infection. The quality of wound care must not decline after the patient is discharged, follow-up care at home will be very important. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of discharge planning regarding wound care for wound healing in Sectio caesarea patients. This research was conducted at the BLUD of RSU Cut Nyakdhien Meulaboh. This type of research uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design through a one group pre-test post-test design approach. The research population was 35 people. The sampling technique uses saturated sampling. The instrument in this study used a questionnaire filled out by respondents and observation sheets. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate. Bivariate analysis using paired t-test (Paired T-Test). The results showed that the majority of wound healing before discharge planning was carried out was good. Wound healing after the majority of discharge planning was carried out very well. The significance value of p-value = 0.000 (p <0.05) then H0 is accepted. This means that there is effectiveness of discharge planning regarding wound care for wound healing in Sectio caesarea patients. It is suggested that this study can provide additional references for future research to discuss more broadly the factors that accelerate wound healing in Sectio caesarea patients.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease caused by the body's inability to produce insulin according to the body's needs or due to ineffective use of insulin or both. When asked about their understanding of treating gangrene wounds independently, they said they did not fully understand how to treat gangrene wounds. The study aims to determine the correlation between patients' knowledge about diabetic wound care and interest in visiting the surgical clinic at Cut Nyak Dhien Meulaboh Hospital. This type of research used a cross-sectional, with a total sample of 38 respondents. The results showed that most respondents' knowledge was in the good category, namely 22 respondents (57.9%), and the least was in the less good category, 16 respondents (42.1%). The interest in visiting the majority of respondents was in the high class, namely 27 respondents (71.1%), and the least was in the low category, 11 respondents (28.9%). The correlation between the two variables, namely between the respondent's knowledge and interest in visiting the patient, is related to the results of the bivariate test using the Chi-square test, which is 0.00. It can increase their knowledge about diabetic wound care so that they can increase awareness for treating diabetic wounds and regularly re-control the hospital so that the healing process can run well and not cause complications that end in amputation.

Abstract

Caregivers are people who have an important role in helping the process of caring for stroke patients, spouses, children, family members, or friends. The study aimed to examine the relationships between the functional status of stroke patients and the burden on family caregivers. The research design was a descriptive correlation. The participants were be composed of 77 stroke survivors', and their families selected by simple random sampling from the Polyclinic Army Hospital TK IV 01.07.01 Pematangsiantar. Data was collected using a questionnaire consisting of demographic characteristics, Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), and Barthel Index (BI). The Pearson Product Moment test used to identify the relationships between the functional status of stroke survivors and the burden on family caregivers. The main result found that the functional's status of stroke survivors was mild dependence (51.9%), and 76.6% of the burdens of family caregivers were mild to moderate. Functional's status was statistically negatively associated with family caregiver burden (r=-0.505, p<0.001). In conclusion, the burden of family caregivers increases the functional's status score of stroke patients. The study suggested that nurses should maintain to the functional's status as eating, dressing, bathing, dressing, toileting, bowel/bladder continence, walking, climbing stairs, and changing chair/bed, to reduce the family caregiver burden of stroke survivors.
