Abstract

Character building has become one of the most prominent issues extensively discussed by many individuals. The influx of numerous foreign cultures across Indonesia's borders threatens the young generation's devotion to their motherland, particularly when they lack adequate education on tolerance and love for their country. They would end up comparing Indonesia's culture with popular foreign cultures, such as Korean culture like K-pop or the modern dance moves frequently seen on TikTok. Consequently, researchers have initiated investigations to explore ways of enhancing character-building among the younger generation through the incorporation of traditional dance, aiming to instill values of tolerance and love for their motherland. This study utilizes a qualitative evaluation method and employs a descriptive evaluation design. The sample for this research consists of 4th-grade students from SDN 2 Sambirejo, Wonogiri Regency. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is conducted through data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions, and verification. This research reveals a significant correlation between the implementation of character-building through traditional dances. By incorporating traditional dances as an extracurricular activity in schools, teachers can effectively instill values of tolerance and love for the motherland. Particularly, its effectiveness is enhanced when excellent facilities and competent teachers support the extracurricular activity. This is primarily because traditional dances in Indonesia reflect the diversity of Indonesian culture. Therefore, traditional dances are an additional effective means to foster a tolerant personality and cultivate a love for the motherland.

Abstract

The primary goal of this study is to analyze the elicitation and reformulation used by male and female teachers in English classes. In this descriptive qualitative study, the researcher collected data from observation and in-depth interviews in three class meetings for 135 minutes (45 minutes/meeting). Ten teachers, five male, and five female, from one Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri in Medan City, North Sumatra. The data were analyzed using Tsui's Elicitation and Martinot's Reformulation categorization. The findings reveal that male and female teachers similarly use five elicitation types: inform, confirm, agree, repeat, and clarify, where the most dominant type of elicitation is confirmed. In addition, three different types of reformulation were found in the reformulation feedback: the same construction, transformation, and restructured statements. In contrast, transformation was the dominant type used by the teachers. In practicing oral feedback, especially elicitation, male teachers use standard language to elicit the students' utterances, while female teachers ask students to make the teaching and learning process interactive. In reformulation, the study results show that male teachers only provide oral feedback by giving instructions, while female teachers provide oral feedback by giving instructions and reformulating utterances. Furthermore, three main reasons were found for teachers to provide oral feedback, namely: to detect mistakes made by students, to stimulate students to interact with the teacher, and to create reflective and effective feedback practices.

Abstract

The ability to recognize letters in students is the basis for students being able to read. This study uses the concept of learning while playing with word cards, picture cards, and letter cards as media. This study, recognizing letters, aims to discover and develop ways of learning to introduce letters to students with more fun methods and attract students' attention at PAUD Bunda Serdang Bedagai. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection is done by interviews, observations, and field studies. In this study, the principal, teacher, and researcher worked together to use word cards, picture cards, and letter cards as media. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research data is in the form of letter recognition activities using word cards, word cards, picture cards, and letter cards as media. Sources of data were obtained by researchers from school principals, class teachers, accompanying teachers, students, and several parents of students. Collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is done through data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions, and verification. The results showed that the teacher's efforts to improve the ability to recognize letters for early childhood students with the initial method were still less effective. Students could only know how to write, not know the letters well. But by using the word card method, picture cards, and letter cards, it is more effective for students to know letters better, not only in writing, but students know the shapes of letters and how to pronounce these letters randomly or sequentially.
