Abstract

The purpose of this study are (1) Describe the diction or choice of words in unilever product advertising. (2) Describe the anaphoric language style in unilever product advertising. (3) Describe the function of the sentence in unilever product advertising. Techniques used to collect data in this study is by library techniques, techniques refer, and method of record. Library technique is an attempt to find written or oral data sources that are documentation. Techniques refer to the technique of providing data with the use of language, while the technique of note is advanced techniques refer to the recording of both the written and oral advertisement of unilever products on television. The next step of the data is classified according to the issues discussed about word choice / diction, anaphoral language style, and sentence function in unilever product advertisement. Based on the analysis of diction, anaphora language style, and sentence function on unilever product advertisement on television. The findings derived in the form of dictionary peculiarities are indicated by the use of appropriate and varied expressions and symbols, the use of various terms from foreign languages, and various expressions deliberately exaggerated to reinforce meaning.Keywords: Diction, anaphoric language style, sentence function, unilever product advertisement.

Abstract

The the purposes of this resaearch was to find out students dificulty in mastering Grammar, and to find out the suitable method in improving students’ grammar mastery. The method of this research was Action Research as the application of fact finding to practical problem solving in social situation by involving the collaboration and cooperation of researcher and practitioners. The research took place at IKIP Siliwangi, focused on class A2 year 2016. Subjects of the research was 45 students of English Education Study Program. The finding and disscussion of this research was that Problem Based Learning (PBL) jo with Puzzle media could improve students’ grmammar mastery and students of English Education Study Program could

Abstract

Abstract This study is revealed based on  the observation on the tenth grade of X HT 1 Sangkuriang 2 Vocational High School.  The subjects of this study were consisted of 31 students. This study was aimed to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery using Cooperative Script Method. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which following from Kemmis and Taggart model. It is used to obtain the results of quantitative and qualitative data using 2 cycles described through planning, action, observation, and reflection on each cycle. The result of the study showed that there was a development on the student’s vocabulary mastery. It could be seen from the result of the test. The Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of English lesson was 70.  The students mean score in the pre test was 50,  in the first post test the mean score was 65, and in the second post test the mean score was 85. In addition there were 2 students (6,4%) who passed KKM on pre test. In the first pretest there were 9 students (29,03%) who passed KKM. In the second pretest there were 29 students (93,55%) who passed KKM. Then, from the result of field notes and interview it showed the positive responses from the students. The students can be more active and improve their ideas. The researcher conclude that Cooperative Script method could improve student’s vocabulary mastery. Keywords:  Vocabulary, Cooperative Script, Descriptive Text, CAR

Abstract

The research was conducted in SMK LuhurBaladikain West Bandung. Reading has become the important instrument in education especially in teaching and learning. Reading comprehension is the activity of constructing the meaning of a reading that has important funding in the process of education and the success of students in learning. The research aims to find out the benefit of using scanning technique, and the specific target to be achieved in this research is to prove scanning technique to improve students’ reading comprehension. Output required of this research as a scientific publication in journal that have ISSN.  The design of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). From the result of pre-test, we found that students’ reading comprehension is under average, the score of pre-test is 59.00. After the implementation of scanning technique in every cycle, the students’ reading comprehension were getting better, it can be seen in average of post-test score cycle 1 was 68.5 and cycle 2 was 79.00. It can be concluded that scanning technique can improve students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research is aimed to know about what larger patterns are used in the report text and what is the role of larger patterns used for the reader. The researcher found that the report text about Australian senator hit with egg after blaming imigration for mosque attack (Karasz, 2019) used claim-counterclaim patterns.The role of claim-counterclaim patterns in that report text is to make readers easy to understand the text, as the reader will know who is the one who was claimed at the beginning as an anti-imigration person, and why he hit a teenager, and what is the reason the teenager smashed him. The researcher suggests for the futher researcher to use other more interesting sources to find more the larger patterns and to knowabout the role of the patterns.Keywords: Larger patterns, report text

Abstract

This study deals with the Speech Acts. The aim of this study is one type of speech to be analyzed using speech actsand to find out the frequency of each speech acts in the United States video’s speech entitled Barrack Obama’s. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The data was be accepted from video script of Barrack Obama’s Speech. Documentary technique is used in collecting data. The findings showed that there are five types of words that will be found in the Barack Obama’s speech video script and there are representative, directive, declarative, expressive, and commisive. The initial type of speech acts is representative ( 34 words ), the second is directive ( 12 words ), the third isdeclarative ( 5 words ), the fourth expressive ( 4 words ), and the last is commisive ( 4 words ).

Abstract

Local wisdom is the using of culture’s elements based on regionalism. In Purwakarta society, this local wisdom is highly held especially because there is a rule from regional government which requires their society to revert to their ancestor’s cultures. The one of the local wisdomelement which is applied in Purwakarta is literature. Sunda language is the language they used in heir daily communication.This research describes the strengthening of Sundanese local wisdom through literature especially the using of Sundanese in every Wednesday either in regional institutions or in schools in Purwakarta. The name of Sunda for Sunda ethnic has some meanings which refers to hope of the kindness in all aspects of life. The writers choose Purwakarta because the writers are interested in the culture of Purwakarta. The writers want to know how the culture in Purwakarta develop. The culture basically remain nuanced sundanese cultural and religious values especially Islam. the acculturation of Sunda and Hindu culture, and the use of traditional language and writing or traditional literature in daily life. This research usedis qualitative method with case study design. The result of this research shows that the using of Sundanese in every Wednesday is very effective in strengthening Sundanese local wisdom.

Abstract

Listening was the main field of this research. it is due to the importance of this skill to be a basic ability of the students when learning English. Based on the phenomena that student have difficulties in learning english especially listening skill, student could not hear clearly because they do not have good skill in listening. Moreover, we often found they felt bored in learning english especially listening. So, they need some ways to help them in learning listening. The problem in listening can be solved by implementing some techniques. One of them is by using song. The main objective of this study is to knows students’ response on the use of song in teaching listening. This used a qualitative research which involved one class of students as a subject. The instruments were observation sheet and interview. Data analysis shows that the result of the observation and interview done before presented a positiveness of the students’ improvement. They enjoyed learning listening using song and they felt so happy to join the learning process. As a conclusion from the result, teacher needs to consider using song on deliver the material of listening in classroom.

Abstract

This article aimed to : (1) describe how small group discussion can be implemented to improving the students speaking ability. (2) To find out wheter there is improvement of students’ speaking ability through small group discussion. This research was conducted by using classroom action research method, and small-group discussion as a technique with 35 students of the nineth grade participating in this research. Classroom action researh  consists of 4 cycles, they are : planning, acting, observing and reflecting. In conducting data, the resercher used observation and interview. The result of the studybshowed the students’ score in the cycle 1 on the pre-test it was 57,33, and on the post-tst in cycle 2 it was improved to be 66,67, in the cycle 3 and on post-test it was 70,06. Based on the these results, it can be concluded that small group discussion improve the students’ speaking ability. This research used qualitative research.

Abstract

Reading is important to getting information and the new experiences. Reading is one of the language skills because reading is an important factor that can affect one's activities to get new information and knowledge from reading activities. In this study inform the using of jumbled sentences in teaching reading. The objective of this study is to see and determine differences in student mastery in reading that use mixed sentences in class 2. The participant of this study is 29 students in tenth grade of SMK Rosma Karawang academic year 2018-2019. The method which it was applied in the quantitative method in this research. In this study, the writer applied a pre-experimental design from one group of pretest and posttest. Data analyzed in this research by paired sample test significantly p <0,05 then data analyzed and processed by a writer by using statistics data calculation of formula T-test by using SPSS v. 23 for windows.The result show there a statistically significant increase in students' reading ability.Keywords:        Teaching, Reading, Jumbled Sentences
