Abstract

The main objective of this research was to investigate the existence and the degree of the correlation between students’ motivation indexes and students’ achievement score in English learning. This research involved the first grades of SMPN 1 MANDE-Cianjur population and the sample of the research was entire (44 students) employ SPSS version 12 in investigating the correlation. The result showed that the value of r was 0,305. It means there is a  positive correlation between students’ motivation indexes and their achievement score in English learning. The correlation coefficient significant of 0,05 level. By using the coefficient of determination (CD) formula, it is known that student’s motivation indexes in learning English give 9,3% contribution to students’ achievement score in English class while the rest in influenced by other factors which are not investigated in this research

Abstract

Abstract Generally, problems faced by the students in learning english is the difficulty to learn vocabulary. Any learners or teachers aware that vocabulary is the important element of language proficiency. The practical problem was faced by the 8th grade students of SMP PLUS YPP DARUSSURUR CIMAHI. Based on facts, the Vocabulary Self Collection Strategy (VSS) is a creative teaching and learning strategy to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. VSS is an interractive learning method where students choose words from a text, use contexts and other resources to find out the meaning of the words, and give those words to be learned by others students. The research design of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The results of the study indicate that VSS could improve learning in a class based on a qualitative or quantitative perspective. Based on the results of the qualitative, it could be seen from the classroom situation, the atmosphere of teaching and learning, students participation, and students responses during teaching and learning activities. Meanwhile, quantitative results could be examined from the scores of students in doing the exercises. Thus this research stated that VSS was an effective technique for solving students' practical problems in mastering vocabulary.Keywords : Improve, Vocabulary mastery, VSS, CAR

Abstract

This research focused with teaching English vocabulary using picture in eight grade of junior high school. This research explores the implementation of English vocabulary and to find out the score improvement in using picture in learning process. The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of picture in improving students’ vocabulary. Data collection technique focus on pretest and posttest. Picture is a good media to make everything like real and can visualize to the lesson environtment.  The means score of pretest was 42.33 and the posttest get improve to 76.50. It could also be concuded that teaching English vocabulary using picture was effective media to improve students’ vocabulary.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the improvement of students’ writing abilityin writing narrativetext through think talk write method.The design of this research is point out in the experimental class design. This research will compare the think talk write method and ordinary teaching model. The students’ would learn how to write narrative text. The population of this research was the tenth grade of SMKPGRI 3 cimahi. Therefore, the advantages of this research to invented the new teaching model to the students’, it was good for students’ development in teaching and learning English with a new model of teaching. This study uses quasi experimental design, Data from this  study collected  through pre-test and post-test, in order to find out some of the results that have increased or decreased, The results show an experimental class with  the TTW (Think Talk Write) method. The pre-test results were supported by highest score and the lowest with the highest, pre-test score of 85 while the lowest score was 52, and the post-test  score was 52 and the  post-test score  with the highest score of 93, and the lowest 70. Abstract

Perspective in education has a role to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process. This research was conducted to know the students’ perspective about teaching and learning process of Financial Management in English Institution course whether it effective or not. A sampling method was used to select the representative sample. To collect the data, this research used the questionnaire which showed the students’ perception of Financial Management Course. The result of the study indicated that Financial Management in English Institution course has the positive perspective from students, this is evidenced by the high positive percentage of each statement. According to the result, Financial Management in English Institution course is acceptable by the student, 68.35% students gave the positive perspective to this course even though the material has considerable differences with English education materials, it means that teaching and learning process of Financial Management course was effective. But 31.65% students gave negative perspective, it means that this course need improvement in many aspects and students can get the advantages of this course. Because financial management is also required in managing the finances of an institution including English education institutions, therefore students of English education also need to study this course.i

Abstract

This research is a Classroom Research Action. The research aims to improve the tenth grade students of SMK Wirasaba Karawang in mastering vocabulary using English songs. Songs can be trusted to help remember vocabulary and used the songs are interested in learning English. Memorizing song can be used to develop English vocabulary mastery so that the purpose of learning English as a communication tool can be achieved optimally. It can be seen from the students’ score on vocabulary test which increased from three vocabulary tests given in the Cycle I and Cycle II. In the students’ achievement Cycle I was 67.33 and Cycle II was 83.7. It can be concluded that songs have a significant impact on improving students’ vocabulary mastery. Keywords: English song, vocabulary mastery, CAR

Abstract

This research aims to analyze about the students’ perception towards the teacher’s bilingual language use in an EFL classroom and to find out the benefit of it. The participants of this research were 32 students of eleventh grade in social 1 at MA Negeri Cimahi. This research employed qualitative research as research methodology and the descriptive research as research design to analyze the data. The instruments that used in this research were questionnaire and interview. Based on the result of questionnaire, the researchers found that students gave positive response of 45,3% by answering “agree” and it proved that students perceived positively towards the bilingual language that is used by the teacher in the EFL classroom. While the result of interview revealed that basically students thought that the teacher’s bilingual language use can help them in learning English and make them easy to understand the material. So, it can be concluded that students perceived positively towards the languages that the teacher use in EFL classroom. The result of this research is expected teachers can be better in using the language instruction in the EFL classroom, which is it will be useful and makes students easier in the learning English process.

Abstract

Vocabulary learning and teaching has been considered as one of the most important mechanisms of any educational program since early. Teachers have been using many techniques to help the learners to develop their knowledge of vocabularies in quality and quantity. There are many media in teaching vocabulary, one of them is by using flashcard. Flashcard is one of media which can help the teacher to teaching English easily. Flash cards in teaching vocabulary are very simple visual aids and the teacher can make the students more active during the teaching learning process. The study was conducted to find out the effect of flashcard on the vocabulary of the sixth graders of elementary school. This study employed a pre-experimental research design with one group pretest and posttest. An the research method used in this research is quantitative research with experimental research method. The subject consisted of 29 students of the sixth grader class of SDN Rengasdengklok Selatan 2 in the academic year of 2017/2018. Data collection techniques used in this study is a test. The procedures of collecting data are pretest, treatment and posttest. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0. Based on the analysis, the mean score in pre-test was 66.21 improve to 79.55 in post-test. The result of t-test showed that significant 2-tailed was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). It can be said that H0 is rejected, it means that there is effect of flashcard to the vocabulary of the sixth graders in SDN Rengasdengklok Selatan 2

Abstract

This study aims to develop learners’ speaking skill at tenth grade of SMK Budi Bakti Utama through Demonstration Technique in procedure text. This research is a Classroom Action Research based on Kurt Lewin’ design. This CAR done in two cycle. Every cycle consist of four phases (planning, acting, observing and reflecting). The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative, namely interview, observation, pretest, posttest and questionnaire. The researcher found that demonstration Technique in teaching procedural text was succes to increase the learners’ speaking ability. It is concluded from the learners score. Where, before implementing CAR the mean score was 53.48 and only 6 learners from 33 learners passed the KKM. Then, after implementing CAR the mean score was better became 75.21 and there are 27 learners passed the KKM.

Abstract

There is a belief that ice breaking can be used in the classroom as it provides several advantages for the students. One of them is that it can improve students’ learning motivation. This study aims to prove this belief. In other words, it attempts to investigate the effectiveness of ice breaking in improving students’ learning motivation. Quantitative with one group pretest and posttest was used in this study. The population was the 10th grade students at SMK YPKKP. The sample was one class of office administration major.  The data was collected through motivation test adapted from (Burhan, 2017). The result showed that null hypothesis of this study was rejected. It is proved by the data from t-test that shows the sigma 2 tailed is 0.00. This value is less than 0.05. Null hypothesis, therefore, was rejected. This means that ice breaking could definitely improve the students’ motivation in learning English. The teacher therefore can implement it in the classroom. in the title.
