Abstract

This research aims to explore the ability to understand mathematical concepts between students with Feeling and Thinking personality types. The qualitative descriptive method with a case study design was applied to four students of SMA N 3 Sungai Full who were selected based on the results of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test. The instruments used were personality type questionnaires, tests of ability to understand mathematical concepts, and unstructured interviews. Data analysis was carried out using data triangulation to ensure the accuracy and validity of the results. Students' understanding of mathematical concepts in the feeling and thinking aspects on the seven indicators that have been evaluated shows relatively low results, even though their approaches to learning are different. Students with the Feeling type tend to consider more emotional aspects in their understanding, while students with the Thinking type focus more on logic and analysis. This research underscores the importance of approaches tailored to students' personality types to improve their understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the competence of mastering mathematics learning applications and learning technology in students of the Mathematics Education Study Program. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach to evaluate the level of mastery of students and lecturers of various applications and learning technologies that are relevant in the context of mathematics education. Data were obtained through questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results of the study indicate that competence in mastering mathematics learning applications and technologies, both in lecturers and students, is still not optimal. However, respondents' perceptions emphasize the importance of this ability to support the effectiveness of the learning process. Respondents' perceptions indicate that mastery of mathematics learning applications, such as geogebra, mathway, photomath, as well as e-learning platforms and artificial intelligence, is an urgent need to improve teaching effectiveness. This indicates the need to develop specific strategies, both in the form of improving skills in mastering learning applications and technologies, or in the form of deeper technology integration in the mathematics education curriculum

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe students’ mathematical communication in terms of student’s learning interests based on the SOLO Taxonomy level. The research method is a descriptive qualitative study conducted at SMPN 35 Pekanbaru grades VIII. The subject of this research is 8 students in grades VIII with high and medium learning interests. The research instruments used are a learning interest questionnaire and a mathematical communication test. The analysis consists of three stages: data condensation, displaying data, and drawing the conclusion. The research concludes there is no significant difference in students’ mathematical communication levels between medium and high learning interest students. Students with medium and high learning interests are on the multi-structural level. However, students with high learning interests put more effort into solving mathematics problems than students with medium learning interests. Therefore, efforts are needed, such as using the interactive learning model and media which increase the student’s learning interest to develop students’ mathematical communication ability.

Abstract

The character of curiosity is inherent to support students in actively exploring an abstract concept such as mathematics. The lack of studies that discuss the importance of curiosity in students, which is the main urgency of the need to conduct this study to provide a reflection that there is a suboptimal character of curiosity itself. Thus, the purpose of this study focuses on describing the character of curiosity shown by analyzing 30 students at one of the Junior High Schools in Karawang Regency when mathematics lessons are taking place. Therefore, a descriptive qualitative approach was used with a simple random sampling technique for grade IX students. In data collection, a non-test instrument was used in the form of a questionnaire containing indicators of curiosity, including 1) Asking, 2) Reading from other sources, 3) Learning initiative 4) Desire to solve problems. The findings show the need for improvement in the character of curiosity because it is shown in one of the indicators of curiosity, namely reading from other sources, showing a percentage of 55%, meaning that only a large part has the desire to explore information from various existing references. Likewise with other indicators, it shows that most students still cannot be said to be optimal from the entire sample used.

Abstract

This study explores the conceptual understanding of visually impaired students regarding circle elements using a learning tool called the Circle Box, which incorporates auditory and tactile features to help students identify circle elements and facilitate subsequent learning. A qualitative naturalistic approach was employed, involving five 8th-grade visually impaired students and two mathematics teachers at a special school in Cimahi. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and a test adapted from Adding It Up: Helping Children Learn Mathematics by the National Research Council. Data were analyzed through reduction, descriptive presentation, verification, and conclusion. The results show that most students successfully identified circle elements and understood key relationships, though challenges remain in verbal explanations and generalizations involving unfamiliar vocabulary. Factors such as age, gender, and the level of visual impairment influence understanding, impacting memorization and confidence. Recommendations for improvements emphasize sound quality, simplified language, and enhanced tactile designs for better usability and learning efficiency.
