Abstract

This research aims to examine the improvement of mathematical communication skills of junior high school students in grade VII using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design involving two sample groups. One group is called the experimental class because it receives learning with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, the other is the control class whose learning uses the conventional model. The first meeting was given a pre-test and the last meeting was given a post-test. The population in this study was all grade VII of SMP PGRI Cibeureum. Then 2 classes were determined as samples, namely class VII-A as the experimental class and class VII-C as the control class. The data collection technique in this study used an instrument of students' mathematical communication skills which was given twice, namely during the Pre-test and Post-test. Data processing and analysis using Microsoft Excel application and SPSS software ver 25.0, the results of this research analysis show that the increase in mathematical communication skills of students of SMP PGRI Cibeureum whose learning uses the Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model is better than those who use conventional learning.

Abstract

The research's background is students' poor representation skills.  This investigation sought to determine how the Adversity Quotient (AQ) and Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) learning models affected students' capacity for representation of mathematics. During the even semester of the 2023–2024 school year, this research was conducted at one of the MTs in South Tangerang City. Using the cluster random sampling method, 45 learners were chosen for the study, 23 of them were from the experimental class and 22 from the control class. Each class is divided into three levels of AQ which are students with Quitters, Camper, and Climber types. This study used a design similar to an experiment with a control group that was only included in the post-test. The data analysis technique used is two-way ANOVA testing. The findings of the investigation indicate that 1) students' mathematical modeling skills are influenced by their acquisition of model; 2) students' mathematical representation skills are influenced by the AQ type; and 3) there is no interaction effect between the AQ type and learning model on pupils mathematically illustration skills.

Abstract

Linear Algebra is often considered a difficult subject by students due to the complexity of its content and their limited problem-solving abilities. In addition to cognitive aspects, this ability is also influenced by affective factors, one of which is self efficacy. This study aims to investigate the problem-solving abilities of students in Linear Algebra, based on their self-efficacy levels. The research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year and involved participants from the 2022 cohort of the Mathematics Education Study Program who were enrolled in the Linear Algebra course. Data were collected through a self efficacy questionnaire, problem-solving tests, and interviews, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman qualitative model. The findings indicate that students with high self efficacy demonstrated stronger abilities, especially in implementing solution plans and reviewing their answers. Meanwhile, students with moderate self efficacy tended to make calculation errors and were less likely to verify their results. These results suggest that self efficacy plays a significant role in comprehensive mathematical problem solving.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of mathematics learning on chance materials using the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) approach from the perspective of constructivist learning theory. Students often experience difficulties in understanding the concept of opportunities due to its abstract nature and lack of contextual visualization, so a learning approach is needed that can bridge the gap between mathematical theory and meaningful learning experiences in the digital era. Data was obtained through a qualitative study using direct observation of the learning process using an observation sheet. The participants were 27 students of class XII and one teacher. The results of the analysis showed that the percentage of learning process achievement was 66.67%. This shows that the TPACK approach has been applied, but not yet optimally in several important aspects. Teachers have applied the TPACK approach, but technology integration has not been maximized.  Reflection and feedback on the learning process have not been implemented thoroughly.

Abstract

Mathematical creative thinking skills are essential competencies that need to be developed in students. This study aims to analyze students' mathematical creative thinking abilities in solving open-ended problems based on Silver’s indicators. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, involving fifth-grade students from SD Bruder Melati, categorized by their level of ability high, medium, and low. Data were collected through written tests (open-ended questions), interviews, and observations. The data analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the fluency aspect had the highest percentage, followed by flexibility and originality. High-ability students were more confident in trying various problem-solving strategies and demonstrated better thinking flexibility. Medium-ability students tended to rely on known patterns before attempting their own alternatives, while low-ability students struggled with all aspects of creative thinking. The findings suggest that while students are capable of generating multiple solutions, they still face challenges in applying diverse strategies and producing unique solutions.

Abstract

A strong grasp of mathematical concepts is fundamental for developing problem-solving abilities. Yet, many fifth-graders struggle to master fraction operations, particularly addition and subtraction. This research investigates the efficacy of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in enhancing students' conceptual mastery of mathematics. Utilizing a quasi-experimental quantitative design, the study was implemented at SDN 1 Number Sari, with participants selected via cluster random sampling—12 students in the experimental group and 16 in the control group. Data were gathered through conceptual understanding assessments and documentary analysis. The t-test revealed statistically significant outcomes (p= 0.017), while the effect size (d= 0.83) indicated a substantial practical impact, classifying CTL as highly effective. These findings demonstrate that CTL not only achieves statistical significance but also delivers meaningful educational improvements. Thus, CTL proves to be a powerful pedagogical strategy for advancing fifth-grade students’ comprehension of fractional operations.
