Abstract

The whole world was shocked by the Covid-19 pandemic. Broadly speaking, the Covid-19 virus has had several effects on education in Indonesia, which can be divided into two categories, both positive and negative. Talking about education, education is a field that can be categorized as important in people's lives, especially in developing Human Resources (HR) in Indonesia. With the existence of education, the next generation will be filled with individuals who are outstanding, intelligent, and useful for the homeland and nation. Therefore, with the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the government in Indonesia is expected to be able to provide an essential and beneficial role for the people in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the role of the government in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in the education sector. This research uses qualitative research, by conducting literature studies and documentation studies. This study found that the government's role in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in the education sector is in line with government functions: 1) Service functions: Provision of Quota Subsidies, Providing BOP and BOS, Teacher Sharing Platforms, Formation of Emergency Curriculum, Formation of Independent Curriculum, and SKB. 2) Empowerment Function: The government provides an Independent Learning program. 3) Development Function: the government builds hard infrastructure, either in the form of satellite, broadband, or tower so as to improve connectivity.

Abstract

The School Literacy Movement (GLS) which is implemented in Indonesia in accordance with the direction of the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture (Permendikbud) Number 23 of 2015, is not only the ability to read and write, but includes thinking and behavior skills, namely as the outcome of a comprehensive effort involving all school members, including teachers, students, parents/guardians, and the community, which are components of the educational ecosystem that relies on the role and completeness of school library facilities and infrastructure. The purpose of this study, to describe the application of GLS in Junior High Schools in North Binjai District, Binjai City, North Sumatra. Data collection was carried out following the paradigm of qualitative research, namely observation, in-depth interviews, which were complemented by a study of documentation. The data is sourced from all stakeholders including the Principal, Teachers, School Committees, Students, and Librarians. The results of the study illustrate that the implementation of GLS in junior high schools in North Binjai District still does not meet the National Education Standards (SNP), both public and private schools, so that there needs to be firmness in local government policies and stakeholder commitment to implementing GLS which results in outstanding students, have good behavior and character, have insight into knowledge and excellent learning achievements.

Abstract

The misconception that is woven around Islamism has necessitated the choice of discourse in this chapter. In Nigeria, Islam as a religion is at the center of the misconception because adherents of the religion, today, have adopted a violent method to protect its principles. It has, therefore, become important to analytically unravel the conceptual entanglement between the ancient Islamism and the violent Islamism. The ancient Islamists maintained the Islamic civilisation without inflicting other civilisations, especially the Western. On the contrary, violent Islamists have agitated for a new order that is destructive of other civilisations. This chapter contributes to the ongoing debate in the literature apropos of the conceptual entanglement associated with Islam and Islamism. This chapter is connected to the broader scope of the book as it makes a difference between the acceptable Islamism that accommodates other civilisations, and violent Islamism that embraces violent jihadism (armed struggle with infidels). This is important because the conceptual entanglement has blurred our understanding of Islam with its instrumental values. This chapter uses secondary data to analyse ancient Islamism and the contemporary Islamism that embraces violence in Nigeria. It concludes that Islam is not associated with violence and, analytically, separates the contemporary violent Islamism from the ancient Islamism.

Abstract

This study focuses not only on identifying the ethical challenges hindering public service delivery but to state how these challenges can be tackled to bring out the desired service delivery demanded by the citizens. Also, this studyproffer suggestions on the work ethics mechanisms that can be employed to enhance the service delivery. The Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria was used as the study area and it adopted the cross-sectional survey research design. The primary source of data was obtained from the administration of questionnaires to both EKSUTH staff (administrative and clinical departments) and EKSUTH out-patients followed by an in-depth interview with four administrative and four clinical staff. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Linear Regression Analysis, and One Sample T-test Analysis were used to test the various hypotheses, and the study findings reveals that there is a link between work ethics and service delivery, also, a proper implementation of standard work ethics can lead to increased efficiency in the public sector. Based on these observations, the researcher suggests that EKSUTH Management should bring up strategical ways in improving the work ethics that would bring about the desired public service delivery.

Abstract

The shift to industry 4.0, characterized by advanced technologies, necessitates government agencies' digital transition, presently at a marginal level in Nigeria, of which policy think tanks are also victims.  Think tanks in Nigeria are saddled with the responsibility of producing policy recommendations through research in response to vast and intricate societal problems. These responsibilities, given global technological advancements and its relevavnce to policy research require technological aid to probe and suggest accurate, responsive policy advice to the government. To this end, this paper aims to examine the state of digitalization and re-echo the need for the digital transition of skills, personnel, and equipment at the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) to enable the production of solution-oriented outputs through which responsive policy recommendations can be made. This study relies on a descriptive methodology, using primary and secondary data from information gathered from the Institute through participant observation and in-depth interviews and the internet. The findings reveal that in NISER, there is growing adoption and transition towards digital transformation; however, there are still concerns about the practicability of the process, which as a result, impedes general productivity. This study recommends digital investment through adequate finance and digital infrastructure support from the government into NISER to reap the benefits of improved productivity and efficiency.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how the Acehnese paradigm is historically constructed and deconstructed. The problem raised is how the Acehnese people's paradigm towards women's leadership in Aceh and what kind of discourse will help Acehnese women in achieving gender justice. The method in this research is a case study with a qualitative approach. The research subject is the leadership of Acehnese women, and the objects in this research are academics, NGOs (social institutions), community leaders and political figures. The location of this research is in the city of Banda Aceh. Data collection techniques through observation and in-depth interviews. The theory used is the theory of leadership, gender politics and habitus. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of culture and the Islamic sharia system tends to hinder women's movement with the principle of protection. The restrictions on the role of women by patriarchal culture make Acehnese women shackled and receive discriminatory treatment. This inequality between the roles of men and women is one of the structural and cultural barriers that causes individuals in society to not have equal access. The differences in roles, functions, and responsibilities between men and women are the result of social construction and can change according to the times.
