Abstract

Purpose: This study examines metathesis in the Quran for morphological changes in its lexicon. Metathesis—reordering phonemes inside words—illuminates the evolution of Arabic and the Quran's exegesis. This study identifies and analyzes Quranic metathesis events to determine their effects on understanding and translation accuracy. Design/ methods/approach: Employing a rigorous qualitative methodology, this study adopts a descriptive analytical approach. It scrutinizes a selection of Quranic words that have undergone metathesis, juxtaposing their original and altered phonemic structures. The inquiry is anchored in primary sources, predominantly the Quranic text, and is further bolstered by an array of exegetical and linguistic scholarly works. Findings: The findings from this investigation reveal that metathesis in the Quran transcends mere linguistic curiosity, bearing significant ramifications for theological discourse and hermeneutic practices. It is observed that these phonemic transformations can subtly, yet substantially, influence the semantic and interpretative dimensions of Quranic verses, notwithstanding the preservation of their intrinsic syntactic integrity in a wider linguistic context. Research implications:  Contributing to the domain of Quranic linguistics, this research underscores the indispensability of linguistic considerations in theological scholarship and Quranic interpretation. It unveils novel perspectives on the intricate interplay between language and meaning within the Quran, highlighting the critical role of nuanced linguistic analysis in the exegesis of sacred texts. Ultimately, the study furnishes profound insights into the symbiotic relationship among language, semantics, and context inherent in the Quran.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aimed to analyze Amin Al-Khouli's ideas in distinguishing between the two schools of Balaghah: the literary school and the logical school. Design/Methods/Approach: The research employs a qualitative approach, focusing on several key methods of analysis. Content analysis was conducted, examining both primary and secondary texts. The primary texts include Amin Al-Khouli's writings and publications on Balaghah. The main method of data collection for this research is document analysis, which involves collecting and analyzing a wide range of texts authored by Amin Al-Khouli, including his books "Methods of Renewal" and "The Art of Saying." Findings: The research revealed that Amin Al-Khouli described the literary school of Balaghah as emphasizing the internal meanings of texts, the beauty of style, and literary taste. Key scholars of this school include Abdullah Ibn Al-Mu'taz, Qudamah Ibn Jaafar, and Abdul Qaher Al-Jurjani. In contrast, the logical school focuses on the verbal aspects of rhetoric, such as topic division and term development, with less emphasis on literary taste or internal meanings. Prominent scholars of this school are Abu Ya'qub al-Sakaki, al-Qazwini, and al-Taftazani. Research Implications: This study contributes to the understanding of the development of Balaghah ideas among advanced scholars of the past and highlights Amin Al-Khouli's efforts in bridging the literary and logical schools of Balaghah.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the integration of Arabic loanwords into the Sasak language in East Lombok's Aikmel sub-district, with a focus on the influence of the Salafi community. The aim is to analyze the implications of this linguistic phenomenon on the local Sasak-speaking community, particularly considering the Salafi community's impact. Design/ methods/approach: Employing a descriptive-qualitative approach, the research combines primary data from interviews and observations with secondary data analysis. The methodology involves organizing interview data and related information into thematic chapters, with an inductive exploration of Sasak-to-Arabic terminology and the environmental perspectives of group members. Findings: The investigation identifies 24 Arabic loanwords in the Sasak language, primarily attributed to the assimilation and Arabization efforts of the Salafis. The study finds that the incorporation of these loanwords notably enhances the understanding of divinity concepts among the Sasak Salafi community. This leads to improved comprehension of Arabic and a greater familiarity with Islamic terminology. Furthermore, the presence of Arabic loanwords has resulted in a linguistic shift, altering the grammatical structure and meaning of the Sasak language. Research implications:  The research's significance lies in its examination of the dynamic interplay between language and religion. It highlights language's role as a medium for religious and cultural transmission, emphasizing the transformative impact of religious movements on local languages. These findings contribute to broader discussions on language evolution, cultural identity, and religious influence, offering valuable insights for linguists, cultural researchers, and religious scholars.

Design/methods/ approach: This research is included in the category of qualitative research using descriptive analytical methods. Qualitative research is a type of research that analyzes descriptive data in the form of speech or writing under study. The analytical descriptive method aims to analyze and describe data about the style of repetition in surah al-Shu'arā. In addition, this study also uses the “simak” method with “sadap” techniques, which is a technique used to obtain data by “simak” to the use of language in surah al-Shu'arā. Repetition is the repetition of sounds, syllables, words or parts of sentences that are considered important to emphasize in an appropriate context. Findings: From this study it can be concluded that in surah al-Shu'arā found seven styles of language which are grouped into three stylistic domains, namely three styles of language in the phonological levels (al-mustawā al-ṣawṭi), two styles of language in the morphological levels (al-mustawā al-ṣarfī), and two styles of language in the syntax levels (al-mustawā al-naḥwī al-tarkībī). This research confirms that repetition as a form of language style is very different from repetition as a form of weakness of writers or authors. Research implication: From this research, it can be seen that there is an implication that repetition in Surah al-Shu'arā can add to the treasure or richness of meaning in it, such as at the sound level it will produce assonance and rhyme alliteration, at the morphological level it will focus special attention and at the grammatical level it will reveal epizeuxis. as well as anaphora
