Abstract

This research is driven by the challenges teachers face in designing learning tools aligned with the 2013 curriculum. The purpose of this study is to develop mathematics learning tools based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to enhance students' mathematical communication skills, ensuring these tools are both valid and practical. The developed learning tools include a syllabus, Lesson Plan, and Student Worksheets. The development process follows the 4-D model, which consists of the stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The subjects of this study were 35 students from class XI at SMAN 5 Tapung. Research instruments included validation sheets to assess the feasibility and validity of the learning tools and student response questionnaires to evaluate the practicality of the student worksheets. The analysis of validation data revealed that the mathematics learning tools are highly valid, with an average rating of 94% for the syllabus, 95% for the lesson plan, and 92% for the student worksheets. The practicality data analysis showed that the student response ratings categorized the tools as very practical, with an average rating of 88.37%.

Abstract

The Ministry of Education and Culture emphasizes the importance of mathematical reasoning; however, current student abilities in this area remain low due to limited independent learning, insufficient resources, and varied teaching approaches. To address these challenges, strategies such as Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) are crucial, necessitating the development of appropriate teaching materials. This research aimed to develop RME-based social arithmetic teaching materials using the 4-D model, which includes the stages of Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination. In the Define stage, researchers analyzed learner needs, learning outcomes, and relevant concepts, establishing clear learning objectives. The Design stage involved creating teaching materials through the compilation of tests, selection of media, formatting, and content design. During the Development stage, a formative evaluation was conducted, including expert assessments, one-on-one evaluations, and trials. The materials were validated with a score of 86.40%, classified as very valid. In limited trials, they received an average rating of 85.92%, classified as very practical, and in field trials, an average of 82.81%, classified as practical. In the Dissemination stage, the teaching materials were distributed to participating schools. The study concludes that RME-based social arithmetic materials effectively support the development of students' mathematical reasoning skills, meeting the criteria of validity and practicality.

Abstract

One of the goals of mathematics education in the Kurikulum Merdeka is to develop students' creative thinking skills in mathematics. However, current evidence shows that students' creative thinking skills remain low. This issue arises because students are not regularly exposed to contextual problems that require creativity, argumentation, and reasoning. Moreover, the use of Student Worksheets is still limited and does not adequately foster students' mathematical creative thinking skills. In response, this research aims to develop a Student Worksheet based on the Problem Posing and Solving Learning Model, commonly known as the Jucama model, focused on the Pythagorean theorem content to enhance the mathematical creative thinking skills of phase D students. The research follows a development approach using the 4D model, which includes the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data were collected using questionnaires, involving 15 ninth-grade students from SMP 22 Pekanbaru in a small group trial. The validity of the worksheet, as evaluated by experts, averaged 92.5%, categorizing it as very valid. The practicality of the worksheet was rated at 83.33%, also categorized as very practical. These results indicate that the worksheet developed using the Jucama model on the Pythagorean theorem content is both valid and practical for facilitating the creative thinking skills of phase D students.

Abstract

This study discusses the solution of the Navier-Stokes Korteweg model, which describes two-phase fluid flow with capillary effects, with Neumann boundary conditions in the half-space. The main objective is to detail the resolution process of the resolvent equation system in the half-space related to the Navier-Stokes Korteweg model with Neumann boundary conditions. The resolution is carried out in several steps. First, the resolvent equation system is reduced using even and odd extensions. Then, a partial Fourier transform is applied, resulting in a simpler ordinary differential equation. The findings of this research indicate the existence of a solution operator for the resolvent equation of the Navier-Stokes Korteweg model with Neumann boundary conditions in the half-space. This solution applies for two cases involving the coefficients, depending on certain conditions related to the fluid properties.

Abstract

This development study aims to produce a problem-based learning module on flat-sided geometry designed to enhance students' mathematical connection skills in Phase D. The teaching module consists of three main sections: the core, general information, and appendices. Given the limitations in students' mathematical connection skills, it is essential for teachers to use effective learning models. Problem-based learning focuses on real-world problems as the central point of instruction, helping students connect lessons to practical, everyday situations. This study followed the 4D development model, which includes the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. Product validation was conducted by three validators, who provided feedback for improvements. The readability of the student worksheets was tested through one-on-one trials with three students. Additionally, small-group trials involving 15 Phase D students from MTsN 4 Kampar were conducted to assess the module's practicality. The validation results showed an average score of 3.58, indicating the module is highly valid. The practicality test resulted in an average score of 87.5%, classifying the module as very practical. These findings demonstrate that the developed module can effectively improve students' mathematical connection skills. Furthermore, teachers can use this product as a teaching tool for the flat-sided geometry material in the mathematics learning process.

Abstract

This development research aims to produce student worksheets integrated with Islamic values to enhance mathematical problem-solving skills on the Pythagorean Theorem topic. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The subjects of the small-scale trial involved 2 teachers and 10 ninth-grade students, while the field trial involved 25 eighth-grade students. The instruments used in this study were validation questionnaires to assess the feasibility of the worksheets by material experts, media experts, and Islamic experts. Additionally, to evaluate the effectiveness of the worksheets, student response questionnaires and the results of mathematical problem-solving skills tests were used. The results of the effectiveness analysis of the worksheets, calculated using the effect size, showed a value of 2.1 with a "strong effect" category, indicating that the use of worksheets integrated with Islamic values in the Pythagorean Theorem topic has a very high impact on developing mathematical problem-solving skills in Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) students.

Abstract

The numeracy skills and self-confidence of students are two important and interrelated aspects in the mathematics learning process. This study aims to examine numeracy skills and self-confidence from the perspective of students. The method used is a systematic literature review (SLR), analyzing and selecting articles related to numeracy skills and self-confidence in mathematics education over the past five years (2019–2023) from the Google Scholar database. The review process followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) principles, with the aid of Publish or Perish (PoP) software. The results of this systematic literature review are: 1) There has been a positive trend in article publications over the last five years, with the highest number of publications in 2023, totaling 13 articles; 2) Numeracy skills, particularly from the perspective of initial abilities, were the most frequently discussed topic, found in 7 articles; 3) Self-confidence, from the perspective of student participation in the learning process, was the most common finding in 5 articles. Based on these results, it can be concluded that numeracy skills are crucial for the 21st century, and self-confidence is an essential skill needed by students to support their learning process.
