Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of mathematics learning using the REACT (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, and Transferring) learning model and the cooperative Jigsaw model in improving students' learning outcomes. The learning models used are the REACT model and the cooperative Jigsaw model. This study utilizes a quasi-experimental method conducted at SMP IL Kapten Fatubaa. The research population includes all seventh-grade students at SMP IL Kapten Fatubaa, with the sample consisting of students from classes VIIA and VIIB. The research design used is the Posttest Only Control Group Design. Data is collected through tests and documentation, using instruments such as test questions and documentation. The results of data analysis using the independent t-test show that mathematics learning with the Jigsaw cooperative model and the REACT model are effective in improving students' mathematics learning outcomes. Additionally, mathematics learning with the Jigsaw cooperative model is more effective than mathematics learning with the REACT model in enhancing students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

The minimal use of learning media and less attractive conventional methods harm students' interest in mathematics. Therefore, researchers developed interactive learning media based on WEB Articulate Storyline to stimulate students' interest in learning mathematics. This study uses the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) developmental research model. Observation, questionnaires, and documentation are the data collection techniques used. Quantitative descriptive analysis is the data analysis technique used. The study results show that the developed learning media is highly valid, as evident from the assessment results by subject matter experts, obtaining an average percentage of 90%, and media experts, obtaining an average percentage of 96.25%. Additionally, the developed media has proven to be very practical, based on the assessment results by teachers, obtaining an average percentage of 91.67%, and student assessments, obtaining an average percentage of 84.95%. Articulate Storyline media has been proven effective in increasing students' interest in learning, as seen from the N-Gain test results obtaining a value of 0.651, which falls into the moderate category. Based on the results of this study, the developed Articulate Storyline learning media is highly appropriate and practical for implementation in mathematics education. It effectively enhances students' interest in learning mathematics.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the difficulties encountered by students in solving higher-order thinking Skill (HOTS) questions, considering their mathematical communication abilities. This research employs a descriptive method with a qualitative approach and a case study research design. The subjects of this study are 25 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 3 Palu. Three students were selected to represent the high, medium, and low categories of mathematical communication abilities, allowing for an analysis of their difficulties in solving HOTS questions. The research instruments include a mathematical communication ability test, a HOTS question test, and interview guidelines. Data analysis consists of data collection, data reduction, and conclusion. The study results indicate that students with high mathematical communication abilities experience difficulties in question C6, particularly in applying mathematical principles. Meanwhile, students with medium mathematical communication abilities need help in question C5, which involves the application of mathematical principles, as well as in question C6, where they struggle with applying concepts and solving verbal problems. On the other hand, students with low mathematical communication abilities encounter difficulties in questions C4 and C6, which require the application of mathematical concepts and principles and solving verbal problems. Developing students' critical thinking skills and mathematical literacy can mitigate these difficulties. Students can better grasp mathematical concepts by applying analysis and evaluation in critical thinking. Additionally, engaging in interpretation within mathematical literacy can enhance their ability to solve verbal problems more effectively.

Abstract

This development research aims to develop and assess the validity and effectiveness of teaching materials on solid geometry based on the Mandailing culture for use in the 5th grade of Elementary School. The research adopts a Research and Development approach, utilizing the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The instrument used in this study is a validation questionnaire. The research subjects consist of two validators, an instructional material expert and a Mathematics teacher. The validation results from the instructional material expert show a significant improvement before and after the revision of the teaching materials. Initially, the validity percentage of the teaching materials was 80% with a "Valid" criterion, equivalent to a score of 4. However, after the revision, the validity percentage increased to 93.75% with a "Highly Valid" criterion, equivalent to a score of 5. The validation results from the Mathematics teacher show a validity percentage of 98.75%, equivalent to a score of 5. Based on these assessments, it can be concluded that the developed solid geometry teaching materials based on the Mandailing culture meet the criteria of being "Highly Valid" for use in the teaching process. Thus, the findings of this study indicate that the teaching materials can be implemented in the 5th grade of Elementary School, and it is expected that these materials will enrich the learning process with local cultural values.

Abstract

The learning of mathematics is not only focused on improving students' computational skills but also prioritizes the development of problem-solving abilities. One of the approaches that can be used to enhance problem-solving skills is the CIRC learning model aided by LKS (Student Worksheets) based on RME (Realistic Mathematics Education). This research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically the nonequivalent control group design. Two classes were involved in the study: the experimental class (XI MIPA 2) and the control class (XI MIPA 4). The research instruments used were tests, interview guidelines, observation sheets, and validation sheets. Data was collected through tests, observations, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The hypothesis test results indicated that students' problem-solving abilities taught using the CIRC learning model aided by LKS based on RME were superior compared to those taught using the CIRC model on the topics of sequences and series. It was proven that implementing the CIRC learning model aided by LKS based on RME significantly improved problem-solving skills among students of XI MIPA 2 at SMA Negeri 2 Grabag, with a high achievement category.

Abstract

One of the problems in the mathematics learning process at SMA Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli is the low level of student engagement and suboptimal learning outcomes. This research aims to evaluate the impact of implementing the Quantum Teaching approach in enhancing students' engagement and mathematics learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli. The research methodology used is an experimental approach with a quantitative method. The instruments used include observation sheets, learning engagement questionnaires, and algebraic function derivative materials tests. The research sample consists of students from classes XI MIPA 3 and XI MIPA 2, selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using hypothesis testing with the t-test. The research results show that in the hypothesis testing regarding learning engagement, both based on observation data (t calculated = 3.707, t table = 1.995) and data from questionnaires (t calculated = 3.300, t table = 1.995), there is a significant influence of the Quantum Teaching approach in improving the learning engagement of mathematics students at SMA Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli. Furthermore, in the hypothesis testing regarding mathematics learning outcomes, a t-calculated value of 2.190 was obtained, which also exceeds the t-table value of 1.995, indicating that the Quantum Teaching approach has a significant impact on improving the mathematics learning outcomes of students at SMA Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli.

Abstract

Based on preliminary studies conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Sirombu, it was found that students' mathematical critical thinking abilities are relatively low. The solution to this issue is to use booklet-based learning media in the teaching process. This research aims to develop a Contextual Teaching and Learning-based booklet learning media that is valid, practical, and effective in improving students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. This study is a development research. The development model used is the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The instruments used in this research are validation questionnaires, response questionnaires, and tests of students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. Based on the research results, the developed booklet learning media has been validated by subject matter experts, language experts, and design experts, with an average validity percentage of 94.48%, indicating a very valid criterion. Furthermore, the booklet learning media is highly practical for students and teachers, with an average practicality percentage of 95.88%. The booklet learning media is also effective, with an average effectiveness percentage of 73%, indicating a moderate criterion.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Mathematics learning media in the form of a Math Pocket Book with a Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) approach that is valid, practical, and effective, with a focus on enhancing student motivation and creating an engaging learning environment. The research was conducted at SMPN 3 Medan during the academic year 2023/2024, using the Research and Development (R&D) method and following the 4-D model (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate) developed by Thiagarajan. The validation results of the Math Pocket Book by validators showed a validity rate of 86.67%, indicating excellent validity. Furthermore, in a small-scale trial involving 20 students from class VIII-H, an N-Gain score of 62.49% was obtained in comparison between pre-tests and post-tests, demonstrating a sufficient level of effectiveness for use as a Mathematics learning media. Additionally, based on teacher responses to the questionnaire, the book was considered highly practical, with a practicality rating of 96.47%. According to student responses in the questionnaire, the book was also deemed highly practical, with a rating of 82.59%. Based on the results and discussions of the research conducted, the Math Pocket Book with a Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) approach is considered to meet the standards of validity, effectiveness, and practicality required for use as a Mathematics learning media for 7th-grade junior high school students.

Abstract

PT. Sinar Gunung Sawit Raya (SGSR) is a company operating in the palm oil plantation sector, producing palm oil and palm kernels. The company faces the challenge of palm oil production variability related to seasonal fluctuations, particularly in the number of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) from oil palm plantations and the FFB delivered to the mill. Palm oil production is significantly affected by seasons, with production increasing during certain months, such as the rainy season when oil palm fruits are larger and heavier, resulting in higher oil yields. Conversely, during the dry season, the fruits tend to be smaller and lighter, leading to a decline in palm oil production. This research aims to forecast palm oil production for the following two periods using the Holt-Winters Exponential Smoothing method with both additive and multiplicative models. Forecasts are conducted manually and with the assistance of Microsoft Excel software. The forecast accuracy is assessed using the Mean Absolute Percentage Error. The manual forecasts for the additive and multiplicative models yielded error rates of 2.11% and 11.56%, respectively. While these forecasts provide valuable insights, it should be noted that other factors may also influence palm oil production outcomes. Therefore, these forecasting results can assist the company in formulating policies to enhance palm oil production.

Abstract

The Generalized Space-Time Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (GSTARIMA) is a model used to model time series data that exhibits spatial dependencies among its locations as well as temporal dependencies. GSTARIMA is applied in various economic contexts, including analyzing exports and imports, exchange rates, production, inflation, and rainfall. This research aims to develop the best GSTARIMA model and utilize it to forecast rainfall in the Medan Belawan District. The GSTARIMA model combines temporal and geographical aspects by adjusting parameters for each observed location. The data used in this study consists of monthly rainfall data for the Medan Belawan District, obtained from the Maritime Class II Meteorological Station in Belawan, spanning from January 2020 to December 2022. The identification of Autoregressive (AR) and Moving Average (MA) orders was performed through the analysis of the Autocorrelation Matrix (MACF) and Partial Autocorrelation Matrix (MPACF). This study employed a spatial order of 1, along with an inverse distance weighting matrix and cross-correlation normalization. Parameter estimation used the generalized least squares (GLS) method. The research results indicate that the GSTARIMA model (2,0,0) with the inverse distance weighting matrix achieved the lowest Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) rate, specifically at 1.0170. Thus, this model is considered the best for forecasting rainfall in the Medan Belawan District.
