Abstract

Background: Many patients who undergo hospitalization experience sleep disturbances. Sleep disturbances can be caused by service routines, environment, illness and stress. Not fulfilling quality sleep can be a trigger for imbalance because the body's restorative function is not maximized which can have an impact on disease and disorders in the body. Complementary foot massage therapy is one therapy that can improve sleep quality. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of giving foot massage on the quality of sleep of inpatients at hospital. Methods: This study used a quasi experimental design with a sampling method using purposive sampling. The sample in this study amounted to 20 respondents in each control group and intervention group. Result: The results of data analysis with the Independent T Test test obtained a p value of 0.045 (p> 0.05), which means that there is a significant difference in the quality of sleep of inpatients at hospital before and after the foot massage intervention. Implication: Foot massage therapy can be one of the independent nursing actions to help improve sleep quality in patients undergoing hospitalization. Keywords: foot massage; hospitalization, sleep quality

Abstract

Background: The increase in non-communicable diseases over the last 30 years in Indonesia requires early prevention and risk control. Puskesmas is the spearhead in improving the health status of the community through health cadres. Efforts to improve the role and function of Posyandu are not solely the responsibility of the government, but all components in the community, including the role of cadres. In addition to providing health information to the community, cadres also act as community mobilisers to come to Posyandu and implement clean and healthy living behaviours. Purpose: This study aims to analyse the relationship between individual characteristics and job satisfaction on the performance of elderly cadres at the elderly posyandu. Methods: This study is a correlational study with a cross sectional approach with a total sampling technique with a sample of 34 elderly cadres. Data collection instruments using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis using chi square test. Result: The results showed that there was no significant relationship between age and the performance of elderly cadres with a p value = 0.566, there was no significant relationship between education and the performance of elderly cadres with a p value = 0.474, there was no significant relationship between tenure and the performance of elderly cadres with a p value = 0.292 and there was a significant relationship between job satisfaction and the performance of elderly cadres with a p value = 0.001. Implication: This research can be used as a reference for future researchers to conduct more in-depth research related to the relationship of individual characteristics to performance and factors that influence job satisfaction

Abstract

Background: Post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) patients often experience back pain due to bed rest to prevent post-catheterization complications. This pain can reduce comfort, delay recovery, and increase hospital stay. Modifying patient positioning, such as adjusting the Head of Bed (HOB), can be a non-pharmacological measure to reduce back pain. Objective: To determine the difference in effectiveness of the 15° and 30° HOB positions on back pain levels in post-PCI patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICCU) Panti Rapih Hospital. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with two independent groups. The study population included all post-PCI patients with radial access hospitalized in the ICCU. A total of 40 respondents were selected using simple random sampling according to the inclusion criteria and then divided into two groups, each with 20 participants in the 15° HOB and the 30° HOB. The research instruments used included an inclinometer to determine the degree of bed incline, a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to assess pain levels before and after the intervention, and an observation sheet for data recording. Results: Analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed that both the 15° and 30° head of bed (HB) groups experienced significant reductions in back pain (p < 0.001). However, the Mann-Whitney test showed no significant difference between the two groups in the level of pain reduction (p > 0.05). This indicates that both positions are equally effective in reducing back pain in post-PCI patients. Implications: Both the 15° and 30° head of bed (HB) positions can be used as non-pharmacological measures to reduce back pain in post-PCI patients. The nurse can adjust the position based on comfort and the clinical condition of each patient. Keywords: Head of Bed 15°; Head of Bed 30°; Back pain

Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease is a disease with an increasing incidence every year. The implications of kidney failure are associated with routine hemodialysis therapy. Implementing this therapy requires discipline in adherence to medication, fluid restriction, and a low-salt (sodium) diet. Purpose: identify medication adherence, fluid restriction, and a low-salt (sodium) diet in patients undergoing routine hemodialysis at a Tangerang hospital. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design and a cross-sectional approach. A sample size of 139 patients undergoing routine hemodialysis was selected using a convenience sampling technique. A questionnaire was used as the measurement tool. Data analysis used univariate analysis. Result: Among patients undergoing routine hemodialysis at a Tangerang hospital, the majority were moderately compliant with medication (74.1%), with a majority compliant with fluid restriction (51.1%), and a majority compliant with a low-salt (sodium) diet (53.2%). Implication: This study demonstrates the need for improved health education and patient support, particularly regarding medication adherence, which is still moderate. Continuous nursing interventions are essential to prevent complications and improve the quality of life of hemodialysis patients. Further research with an analytical design is needed to identify factors influencing hemodialysis patient adherence Keywords: Low-salt (sodium) diet; Hemodialysis; Compliance; Medication intake; Fluid restriction

Abstract

Background: Smokers frequently experience insomnia, a sleep disturbance linked to nicotine’s stimulating properties that negatively impact sleep quality. Non-pharmacological approaches, such as structured physical exercise, have gained attention as alternative interventions for insomnia management. Purpose: The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of structured physical exercise in reducing insomnia severity among young adult smokers. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest model and control group. A total of 40 young adult smokers were recruited as participants and proportionally assigned to either the intervention or control group, with 20 individuals in each. The intervention group underwent a structured physical exercise program for four weeks, performed three times per week for 30 minutes per session, while the control group received health education materials. Insomnia severity was measured using ISI (the Insomnia Severity Index). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for within-group comparisons and the Mann–Whitney U test for between-group differences. Result: The findings revealed a significant reduction in ISI scores within the intervention group, with an average difference of 4.40 (p<0.001), whereas the control group showed a smaller, non-significant reduction of 0.80 (p=0.086). Structured physical exercise proved to be statistically more effective in decreasing insomnia severity compared to health education (p=0.001). Implication: Community nurses can adopt promotive strategies by implementing structured physical exercise interventions to effectively reduce insomnia severity among young adult smokers. This non-pharmacological approach can be systematically integrated into public health programs to support improved sleep quality and overall health outcomes.
