Abstract

SQ3R is a method to get knowledge from reading sources. Thus, the contents of a reading source will become effective as a knowledge, in this case the knowledge instructed by the lecturer in the "English for Specific Purpose" Course. The desired knowledge obtained is the knowledge of "ISO" (International Organization for Stadardization) . After getting the contents of a reading about the "ISO", the lecturer will form a group for a conversation simulation in a company meeting by using the "Role Play" method, where students in the group will act as managers in a company. The limitation of this research is to only focus on the role of the SQ3R method on the "Role Play" method as one of the methods for teaching students' Speaking Skills at STIA Banten, especially students of the "English for Specific Purpose" class. In conducting this research, the author used the Action Research method or take certain actions or treatments to see the success of students to be able to communicate. Then, the data used is observation data with recording techniques and also the value of student learning outcomes. The results achieved in this study are that there is a close relationship between SQ3R conducted by students to find out about "ISO" and then practice it in the classroom using the "Role Play" method. From the results obtained by students, there is also visible progress before using the SQ3R method with students' speaking ability after using the SQ3R method.

Abstract

The objective of this research was on the level of Foreign Language Anxiety that experienced by students. In this research, the researcher was use the Qualitative research as the method in implementing case study. The sources of data were 30 students of the second semester of Banten Jaya University. For collecting data that used in this study include classroom observation, questionnaires and interview. The questionnaire used to obtain specific information data was gathered from the participants by FLCAS of Horwitz et all (1986). From the result of FLCAS questionnaire, there were 10 students who felt very anxious with percentage 33.33%, 8 students felt anxious with the percentage 26.67%, 8 students felt mildly anxious with the percentage 26.67%, 4 students felt relaxed with the percentage 13.33% and there was no student who felt very relaxed. Then, the result of WAT questionnaire were 7 students felt very anxious with percentage 23.33%, 8 students felt anxious with the percentage 26.67%, 9 students felt mildly anxious with the percentage 30%, 6 students felt relaxed with the percentage 20% and there was no student who felt very relaxed. Based on the findings of the present study, several conclusions can be made: First, students’ anxiety in speaking showed that the students never felt quite sure of themselves when they were speaking in foreign language class. Second, students’ anxiety in writing above showed that most of students avoided writing in English.

Abstract

Teacher is one of actor who has the important position to determine the success key of process of learning. Although, the factors that can affects the process of learnnig is not only based on the teacher itself. But as an agent of educator in formal educational institution, the teacher can bring the biggest impact for all of the students. Because as we known, to create the best quality in process of learning, it always need the qualify and professional teacher. There are four competence that should be mastering by teachers, to make themselves be qualify . One of the competence is pedagogical competence. This one, is competence that make the teacher profession is different from the other profesion. This research aimed to describe the ability of teacher in mastering pedagogical competence, and also the process of implementation of pedagogical competence in teaching English at SMK PGRI 3 Kota Serang. This research is one the kind qualitative research with the descriptive approach. To collect data related to the subject that being studied in this research, the writer used some of techniques such as observation, questionnaire, interview and some of the research documentations. This research used three of English teacher as a sample research. For the result of this research it can see based on the result of observation sheet that show is around 65.625% for the implementation of pedagogical competence in the process of teaching English. And, for the result of questionnaire get the 70% for score in ability of teacher in mastering pedagogical competence. Based on this research, it can conclude that the ability of teacher in mastering pedagogical competence and implementation of it in teaching English are still include on the good category.

Abstract

Universitas indraprasta PGRI , students get the English subject in first year, and one of material is passive voice form. From the students score in examination, the result is they had low score in transforming active to passive form. From that condition the writer do a research of an errors analysis in transforming Active to Passive form. The purpose of the research is to find the errors of students in transforming active to passive form. This is descriptive qualitative research which the data collection is gotten from test and interview. The data shows there are 428 errors in transforming active to passive voice from 4 classes randomly. From the data analysis, it can be taken a conclusion that students did all types of errors (omission, addition, misformation, misordering) . From 4 classes there are 428 errors that they had made. And the highest errors are omission which is 134 errors, and the lowest errors are misformation which is 83 Errors. Misordering is 91 errors and addition is 120 errors. From the interview the writer got that students do not know the tenses of active voice so they cannot change rightly to passive voice.

Abstract

2013 Curriculum in Indonesia implemented since 2014-2015 , by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia. The reason is to build character education and improving student’s creative thinking are the main reason of the new curriculum development. research perception on the implementation of 2013 English curriculum and identified problem faced by teachers in implementing it. through qualitative design, the study was conducted at one senior high school in Serang. This study discloses EFL Indonesian Teacher perception 2013 curriculum, through interview teachers for in-depth analysis. The finding showed curriculum 2013 implemented, the teacher used specific syllabus and 3 workbook applied. Most of the teachers claim that English curriculum 2013 not easily to implemented, Difficulties in applying learning revolution, rubric of assessment, and using scientific approach to improve students English skill. The results confirm that process of 2013 curriculum from teacher perception and problem occurred by teacher. It also recommended that the teacher should put more effort on applying by joining any training, workshop and improve their creativity adapt to the advance of knowledge and technology.

Abstract

This research is an ethnography study which explores the using of registers in technology of information context applied by computer community. The research examines the textual patterning of the registers applied by computer community, interpersonal and intrapersonal features as well as considers possible contextual factors which contribute to the formation of cultural theme. The research thus aims to provide both textual and contextual of the register under investigation in language and culture. For its framework for analysis, the research draws on domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and the role of both textual and contextual pattern in forming cultural theme. The research reveals that computer community uses a proverb ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ as their cultural theme to understand the functional interpretation of each register in technology of information context. They seem to distance themselves from outside sources such as bilingual dictionary for comprehending the textual meaning and computer dictionary for comprehending the contextual meaning. They integrate and manipulate outside sources in various ways to establish and provide supportive for the views they express. The research concludes that cultural theme of computer community is a proverb ‘Practice Makes Perfect’. They believe that they can possess the skills by keeping practice. It is thus recommended that further study in this field should be able to investigate the need analysis of English for specific purpose in order to improve the comprehension of the register.

Abstract

This research was aimed at investigating the Students’ Ability in Using Subject- Verb Agreement and the error made by the students in using subject-verb agreement. The writers was used the deductive approach to minimize the errors on learning grammar process and improving their ability in using subject-verb agreement. The students ability in using subject-verb agreement was categorized into the poor categories with 17 students and followed by very poor categories with 8 students from 34 students are there in the class. This research also found some causes of the students error while learning the grammar structure especially subject-verb agreement. The error occurred while learning subject verb agreement was on intralingua error like, false analogy and misanalysis.

Abstract

The study used to be aimed at describing: (1) the goal needs of the students in learning English of Banten Jaya University, (2) the mastering needs of the students in mastering English of Banten Jaya University, and (3) the improvement at the teaching English syllabus. The topics of this study had been 152 students of the semester 1 of various departments of Banten Jaya University in the educational yr 2019/2020. The study consisted of data collection, data identification, data quantification, data description, and syllabus development. The English syllabus has been developed primarily based on the desires analysis data. The research instruments have been questionnaires and interview guides. The outcomes of the study are as follow. The goal needs of the students of Banten Jaya University in learning English are to enhance their English skills; the students’ proficiency is in the beginner level; studying English is useful for their subsequent career; the most popular subject matter; the center is photo illustration; the studying pastime is talking then reading comprehension; the trainer function is as a comments giver; the learners position is as energetic learners; and the setting is group work.

Abstract

The flourishing development of technological software could have been as the necessary reality. The ever-changing technological learning media emergence as the description of digital disruption in educational contexts. Teaching English as a Foreign Language is regarded as a challenging activity, since language teaching is strongly expected to have a quality teaching strategies to improve English proficiency. YouTube is principally designed to increase both aspects of language competency, and personal aspects of EFL learners, such as learning motivation, critical thinking, and learning autonomy. YouTube represents the presence of the sifting educational paradigm from the traditional teaching or teacher centeredness to authentic or meaningful language learning, in which these would have been centralized on EFL learners’ domain (student-centered learning). The constructive changing of language approaches are indicated by the use of web 2.0 software presenting varying types of webs-based language learning software, YouTube. It is properly regarded to have contributed to produce the authentic and meaningful learning sources. And also, this learning model could have been made as the supplementary materials, in purpose of incorporating the traditional face-to face class activities into language learning supported by e-media. All in all, Those YouTube-based language learning’s advantages could contribute to build up independence of language learning. Therefore, the effectiveness of YouTube-based language learning potentially develop EFL learners’ class participation; social engagement, critical thinking, better comprehension of the subject-matters, and learning autonomy

Abstract

This research was intended to describe the strategies used by the teacher in teaching TOEFL preparation to support the students especially listening skill, the steps the teacher to implementing the strategies teacher, and the problem faced in enhancement 25% listening score in listening skill. This methodology was qualitative research with case study, the subject of the research was English teacher TOEFL preparation in EF Course Cilegon. The collecting data of this research used data display, data reduction and conclusion focus this research is strategies in teaching listening section in TOEFL and sub focus are direct and indirect in teaching listening section in TOEFL Preparation. The result strategies of this research are used simulation, discussions, giving tips and tricks, the course used ICT modern era, games, and motivation, the conclusion is There are some statements for the student participant about teacher strategies in teaching TOEFL Preparation. They are: First, teacher strategies can improve confidence in good speaker and listener. Second, teacher strategies can make students feel easier to take exam TOEFL. Third, the student often listening native speakers to understand can be enhanced. Fourth, the student can be more active how take TOEFL be well. the last, the student knows how to know type question in TOEFL especially listening section of the strategies. The writer found sixth strategies used by the EF Cilegon to teach TOEFL Preparation especially listening section.
