Abstract

Writing is not a natural talent in language acquisition since it necessitates both editing and revising, making it appear to be a simple activity. A dictionary might be used by students to assist them use a foreign language in any situation. These exercises, however, may cause a number of mistakes in pupils' writing tasks. In light of this, the purpose of this study is to detect students' difficulties and grammatical mistakes during the academic writing process. In this study, mixed techniques were used to document the works of vocational college students and conduct interviews with them. The evidence on learners' grammatical mistakes was gathered, transcribed, evaluated, and interpreted. The students' mistakes were found to be in the following areas: tense (38.0%), preposition (11.7%), article (11.4%), conjunction (11.4%), omission (8.9%), subject-verb agreement (6.3%), and adverb (6.3%). (2.5 percent ). Meanwhile, according to the interview, most of the students (81.8 percent) utilized a translation tool such as Google translate to help with language competency during the writing process. Despite using a translation tool in writing, the majority of students (73%) said it was a challenging ability to master, and 18% considered the writing process was the most difficult of all language tasks.

Abstract

This research focuses are to analyze the ttranslation equivalence and types of equivalence which occur in the song lyrics For the Rest of My Life and Reflection from English into Indonesian language. The writer uses documentation as the data of the research and uses content analysis as the research design. The result of research, as follows (1) For the song lyrics For The Rest of My Life, the meaning of equivalence with the different meaning category (FM) which is as much as 17 or 68%, there is no result value for rising meaning (RM) category, and for down meaning category (DM) as much as 6 or 24% appearances. Meanwhile, for non-equivalent, the missing meaning (MM) category as much as 1 or 4%; and for different meaning category (DM) as much as 17 or 68% appearances. Therefore, it can be concluded that the most appearance occurs on the different meaning (DM) category. (2) For the song lyrics Reflection, meaning of equivalence with the down meaning category (FM) which is as much as 15 or 51,7%, meanwhile there is no result value for full and rising meaning (RM) category. Meanwhile For non-equivalent, the missing meaning (MM) category as much as 1 or 3,4%, and for different meaning category (DM) as much as 13 or 44,8% appearances. Therefore, it can be concluded that the most appearance occurs on the down meaning (DM) category. In short, based on the data of analysis, either from the song lyrics For The Rest of my Life and Reflection then types of equivalence that occurs on the translation result on two the song are Dynamic Equivalence.

Abstract

Distance Learning is a big challenge for the world of education because not all have experienced it before. Project Based Learning (PBL) through Edlink Sevima Application is one alternative that can be applied by lecturers in Distance Learning activities. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Project Based Learning (PBL) as Learning Model through the Edlink Sevima Application could improve the academic writing skills of students of the English Education Study Program at STKIP Kusumanegara. This research was conducted with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) research approach which consisted of two learning cycles with 18 students. The data collection technique used is through observation, interviews, and student academic writing tests. The results of this study can be seen by using the Project Based Learning learning model through edlink sevima which can improve students' academic writing test results from two learning cycles given a minimum completeness score of 75 and a success target of 85%. In the first cycle students were able to achieve the target of 6i%, and the second cycle 90%. Based on the results of the study, it can be said that the Project Based Learning as a learning model through the Sevima edlink application is effective in improving students' academic writing skills in distance learning. Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the shifting of teaching-learning process replacing with E-learning. This research aimed to knowing the students' perception and motivation towards English E-Learning during Covid-19 pandemic at MTSN 1 Serang City. This research generally answered two questions as follows: 1) What are students’ perception toward English E-learning during covid-19 pandemic? 2) How are students’ motivation toward English E-learning during covid-19 pandemic?. In this research the technique of collecting data researcher used interview and questionnaire method. There were 20 students of ninth graders at MTSN 1 Serang City participated in this research. The research instrument of this research is researcher herself. Since this research explored the students’ perception and motivation which coming from the students’ experiences during covid-19 pandemic, this research was applied descriptive qualitative design. The findings from the data analysis, students give positive perception toward English E-learning, because the process of learning English is easier with E-learning and E-learning can foster students’ interest and motivated in learning English. Even though students found problems in implementing English E-learning, students also found learning English through E-Learning is quite effective.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out students' learning styles, character or personality, and learning motivation in English by using graphology as a method of analysis. This research used a qualitative approach. The method used in this research was content analysis. This research was conducted in SMK PGRI 3 Kota Serang with a total of the participant is 10 students. The data was obtained by collecting data of students’ handwriting and through the interview of confirming the accuracy of the analysis. The results of this research were: the accuracy of students' characters and personalities is 82,6% and the accuracy of students' motivation is 77,5%. As a final result, the average students have standard to high motivation in learning English.

Abstract

This research aims to identify how students at second semester in University of Serang Raya can differentiate between hortatory and Analytical Expositions. The method used is descriptive study. The sample of this research are 7 classes of second semester in University of Serang Raya. The tool for data collecting was a written text that students wrote in two kinds of text, Hortatory and Analytical Exposition in a side by side form (2 columns) and a quiz in a google forms. It is hope that by analysing the students’ writing, they are able to comprehend and differentiate the structure and the content of Hortatory and Analytical Exposition

Abstract

Many social institutions concerning on education field open English classes for children by recruiting volunteer teachers. However, this voluntary English teaching activity makes the materials provided are not well structured so that the preparation of teaching materials is needed based on the needs of the learners involved. This research aims to identify the English learning needs in Rubik Social School. The method applied are observation, questionnaires and interviews. The subject of research is the students and voluntary teachers. The results of the study include the target needs and learning needs. The target of English learning needs at the Rubik Social School is to support English subjects taught in formal schools and become the basis of skills for further education. The learning materials needed are simple vocabularies and expressions in which topics are close to children such as parts of the body, colours, family, fruits and vegetables and others. English learning is held in a face-to-face meeting and taught by voluntary non-native speaker teachers every week. The results of this study should be continued as material for the syllabus and teaching materials.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the problems faced by second-grade students in using the simple present tense at (Madrasah Aliyah Negeri) MAN Dompu. The data collection used in this research is interviews and tests, in order to find and classify the problems faced by second-grade students who have difficulty using the simple present tense. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The population used in this study consisted of 5 classes and the sample was taken randomly, eight students in each class were used as samples. The number of samples is 40 students. The results of data analysis obtained through object tests and essay tests show that students' scores are very poor. This is evidenced by the average value of students is 3.9. Based on the test results, it shows that students have low ability in using the simple present tense, the students are quite interested in English subjects; English is very difficult for them; English teachers never give advice and motivation to students; the teacher never informs the students about the importance of learning English, especially the simple present tense; students have low motivation in learning English; English teachers never pay attention to students who have difficulty learning English; lack of stimulation for students in learning English; and students have low abilities. The researcher hopes that this research can contribute to teachers and students in the teaching and learning process of English, especially in the use of the simple present tense.

Abstract

Based on the preliminary survey, it is known that SMKN 3 Kota Serang has tried to have e-learning to support online teaching and learning activities, so teachers and students will be able to do online learning in the pandemic of covid-19.A qualitative approach is used in conducting this research because it describes the Utilization of Google Classroom as E-Learning for conducting the English teaching-learning process during pandemic Covid-19. The case study was chosen as the research method in this study. From the result in figure 1, it can be seen that most respondents were enthusiastic during the English teaching-learning process through Google Classroom. Based on the post-survey, most respondents could understand the use of all the main features of Google Classroom, such as creating a new class, subject lesson, assignment, quiz, question, grading assignment and quiz, posting announcement for their students, etc. From all explanations of the utilization of Google Classroom for teaching English in SMKN 3 Kota Serang, it can be seen that a positive result was gotten. It is also supported by the result of a survey about students’ perception of English learning through the utilization of Google Classroom. Students’ Feedback of Utilization Google Classroom as E-learning Media of English. From the result in figure 1, it can be seen that most respondents were enthusiastic during the English teaching-learning process through Google Classroom.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to investigate young learners perceptions and moral values on listening while English language teaching for young learner by having "Dora: The Lost Gold City" Movie at SMP Daarul Yaqiin. Method of research used descriptive analysis to explore young learner’s perception and moral values. Instrument used were observation, questionnaires and interviews. Interviews and questionnaires were conducted in the seventh grades of SMP Daarul Yaqiin. It was followed by 50 young learners who join listening class. The results of this study indicate; (1) Young learners give a good perception about the use of the movie "Dora: The lost city of gold" (2) Young learners give positive feedback to attract listening skills by using the movie "Dora: The lost city of gold" in learning, and (3) young learners get moral values by watching the movie "Dora: The lost city of gold". The advantages of using the movie "Dora: The lost city of gold" in learning listening are; it helps young learners understanding the subject easily, young learners were happy, gave them motivation to learn English for young learner. From these finding the conclusion was the used of the movie "Dora: The lost city of gold" in English listening easy understanding material has positive response from young learners and also provided several benefits for them especially moral values for young learners.
