Abstract

This study explores the representation of linguistic acculturation between Javanese (Yogyakarta) and Korean cultures in the novel Langit Goryeo by Berliana Kimberly through the framework of John W. Berry’s acculturation theory. The research aims to investigate how characters in the novel adopt, negotiate, and preserve cultural identities in the context of intercultural encounters. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, the study identifies and categorizes linguistic and cultural interactions based on Berry’s four acculturation strategies: assimilation, integration, separation, and marginalization. The analysis reveals that integration is the dominant acculturation mode depicted in the novel, wherein characters maintain their cultural roots while engaging harmoniously with the host culture. Instances of assimilation and separation are also present, showing the fluid and contextual nature of acculturation. However, no indication of marginalization was found, suggesting an intentional narrative that values collaboration and intercultural dialogue. The findings demonstrate how literary works can function as sociocultural reflections and pedagogical tools in understanding multicultural dynamics. The novel highlights that integrative acculturation fosters inclusive relationships and mutual respect across cultures. This study contributes to the field of literary linguistics and intercultural communication by emphasizing the role of narrative fiction in shaping cross-cultural understanding

Abstract

This study presents a forensic pragmatic analysis of two suicide notes written by a young couple in Makassar, Indonesia, who died by suicide in November 2023. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research applies the theories of implicature (Grice, 1975), presupposition (Levinson, 1983), and speech acts (Searle, 1979) to uncover implicit meanings and communicative intentions embedded within the notes. The data, consisting of handwritten texts publicly verified by authorities, were analyzed thematically to identify expressions of emotional exhaustion, perceived burden, and unresolved relational conflict. The findings reveal that both notes are rich in indirect language, culturally shaped presuppositions, and emotionally charged speech acts that function as both personal expressions and posthumous directives. Moreover, gendered linguistic patterns suggest differing emotional emphases and narrative tones between the two writers. The study highlights the role of language in encoding psychological distress and social obligations, offering new insights into the intersection of linguistics, mental health, and forensic inquiry. By focusing on suicide discourse in a Southeast Asian context, this research contributes to the underrepresented domain of non-Western forensic linguistics and emphasizes the value of pragmatic analysis for suicide prevention and legal interpretation

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of family language-based parenting patterns on the development of responsibility character among adolescents in the digital era. A quantitative survey method was employed, involving 100 adolescent respondents residing in five regions of Makassar City: Jl. Galangan Kapal, Jl. Tinumbu, Jl. Kandea, Jl. Pampang Raya, and Jl. Abubakar Lambogo. The research instrument used was a closed-ended questionnaire measuring parental language-based parenting tendencies (democratic, authoritarian, and permissive) and adolescents' levels of responsibility character. The findings reveal that the democratic parenting pattern has the most significant impact on the development of responsibility, marked by open communication, logical explanation, and two-way dialogue. In contrast, authoritarian and permissive styles tend to be less effective in fostering adolescent responsibility. Pearson correlation tests showed a significant positive relationship between democratic language-based parenting and adolescent responsibility levels. This study emphasizes the crucial role of healthy family communication practices as a foundation for character education in adolescents, especially amidst the challenges of the digital age.

Abstract

Modern education demands cross-disciplinary integration, including physics and physical education, to build 21st-century competencies. This article analyzes the link between parabolic motion concepts in physics and javelin throwing techniques in physical education through descriptive qualitative literature study. Findings reveal that the javelin trajectory follows parabolic motion principles, but the optimal release angle (320–360) deviates from classical physics theory (450) due to biomechanical factors such as release height (2.1–2.3 m) and modern javelin aerodynamics. Initial velocity dominates distance (75% contribution) over release angle (θ). Integrative physics-PE learning increased conceptual understanding of parabolic motion by 34% and throwing accuracy by 27%, supported by PhET simulations and sensor-based biomechanical analysis. Pedagogical implications include correcting optimal angle misconceptions, emphasizing the approach phase, and teacher collaboration via lesson study. This integration strengthens contextual scientific literacy and motor skills.
