Abstract

Local Goats (Capra hircus aegagrus) is a type of small ruminants and is a home-grown in Indonesia which is very susceptible to attack by diseases caused by gastrointestinal parasites, especially in developing countries, causing losses to infected animals and economic losses to farmers. This study aims to know the morphology and total of eggs and adult worms, in the digestive tract in Kupang City- East Nusa Tenggara. This study uses work methods including total calculation and identification of worm eggs using the McMaster method, aiming to calculate the number of worm eggs and used to identify the morphology of worm eggs, total testing and morphology of adult worms in the digestive tract aims to determine the number of adult worms in the digestive tract, Semichenetic Acetic Camine staining aims to confirm and clarify the type from the results of identification of adult worms found in goat intestines after it is determined the dominant type of adult worms in the digestive tract of local goats. The results showed that there were three types of worm eggs found from 20 local goats, namely Trichuris sp as many as 5, Strongyloides sp as many as 63, and Strongyloid sp as many as 304 and there were three categories of infection, namely infection-free category in two goats (TTGT = 0), mild infections in three goats (TTGT = 300-400 or ranged from 1-499), and moderate infections in 15 goats (TTGT = 500-2850 or ranged from 500-> 5000). The results of the total study of adult worms in the digestive tract from four local goats found one type of digestive tract worms, namely Trichuris sp as many as 120 of the two goats (numbers 2 and 4). Trichuris sp as the most dominant type of worm in the digestive tract of local goats in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

Avian Influenza (AI) adalah penyakit zoonosis penting dan telah menjadi ancaman besar bagi peternakan ayam rakyat. Pulau Sumba secara historis adalah Pulau bebas kasus Avian Influenza. Analisis risiko ini sebagai respon atas permintaan perusahaan tebu nasional yang hendak memasukan pupuk organik berbahan dasar feces unggas sebanyak 2.730 ton yang akan digunakan di perkebunan tebu lahan kering di Kabupaten Sumba Timur. Tim Analisis risiko melakukan pemantauan ke Karantina Waingapu tempat pupuk ditahan. Metode pengumpulan data dengan kuesioner dan kunjungan lapangan ke Dinas Peternakan dan Perikanan Kabupaten Blitar, ke farm tempat dihasilkannya feces unggas, ke lokasi pengolahan feces menjadi pupuk organik, Dinas Peternakan Provinsi Jawa Timur dan Balai Besar Karantina Pertanian Surabaya. Sampel feces juga diambil dan dilakukan pemeriksaan PCR oleh Balai Besar Karantina Pertanian Surabaya. Hasil analisis risiko menunjukan bahwa estimasi risiko penularan virus AI terkait pemasukan pupuk organik asal unggas dari Provinsi Jawa Timur ke Kabupaten Sumba Timur Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur adalah Negligible artinya kejadian dapat diabaikan sehingga Tim merekomendasikan agar pengiriman pupuk organik tersebut dapat dilakukan dengan beberapa catatan yaitu kelengkapan dokumen pengiriman produk berupa surat rekomendasi daerah asal dan tujuan, sertifikat veteriner daerah asal, hasil pemeriksaan laboratorium dan surat keterangan bebas kasus AI dalam 6 bulan terakhir perlu dilampirkan dalam setiap kali pengiriman produk dan pengiriman pupuk harus dalam kondisi tertutup (dalam kontainer) dan hanya boleh diturunkan ketika sampai di lokasi tujuan akhir.

Abstract

Rumen liquid is a waste product of slaughterhouse that has the potential to be a pollutant, contains lactic acid bacteria which can be used as bio preservatives in food. The purpose of this study was to identify the antimicrobial activity of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolates from rumen fluid against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria using well diffusion and disc diffusion methods and using lactic acid bacteria isolates (supernatant) and non-filtrate from rumen fluid. The main research materials used were LAB rumen fluid isolates, MRSA media (Mann Rogosa Sharpe Agar), MRSB media (Mann Rogosa Sharpe Broth), MHA media (Muller Hinton Agar), and pathogenic bacteria Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella Enteritidis. The results of the study showed that the LAB of rumen fluid carried out as an active LAB with Gram positive characteristics, round shape, negative catalase and non motile. Based on the results of testing the antimicrobial activity of lactic acid bacteria from rumen fluid isolates against pathogenic Gram positive (B. cereus and S. aureus) and Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella Enteritidis) using well and disc diffusion methods showed that Gram negative bacteria were more sensitive to antimicrobial of LAB compared to Gram positive bacteria. The diameter of the larger inhibition zone is produced using the disc method with the inhibition zone diameter range of 13.66-28.3 mm, while the well method ranges from 0-24.2 mm. The antimicrobial activity of LAB using non filtrate BAL produce inhibition zone diameter size range of 0-26.1 mm, while the filtrate BAL produce inhibition zone diameter range of 0-28.3 mm with the optimum time to produce antimicrobial activity 48 hours compared to 24 hours after incubation.

Abstract

Endocarditis is one of the causes of heart disease and as a major cause of congestive heart failure (CHF), namely a pathological condition due to the heart can not carry out its function to pump blood adequately in to sufficient the body's metabolic needs, including oxygen and nutrients. The clinical symptoms of endocarditis vary from mild to severe and often lead to death. This study aims to prove the existence of impaired heart function in a Pomeranian dog in determining the diagnosis of endocarditis through physical, hematological, X-ray and echocardiography/ultrasound. Reliability and accuracy in diagnosing endocarditis are important factors in therapeutic efforts that can improve clinical conditions and extend the life span of dogs. A 4-year-old male Pomeranian dog suspected of suffering from Endocarditis since 2 months ago, with clinical manifestations of dyspnea, cough, fever, pale and decreased or lost appetite. Physical examination of dogs followed by blood tests showed Leukocytosis (37.5 µL), Thrombocytosis (686 µL), Granulocytosis (30.3 µL) and Lymphocytosis (6.1 µL) which indicated inflammation or chronic infection. While on the results of the blood chemistry examination, an increase in Alkaline Phosphatase / ALP (115 цL) showed a dysfunction of non-specific organs such as the pancreas, liver, bone, kidney. Furthermore, the accuracy of diagnosis is done by X-ray examination in the left dorsal, right dorsal and dorsoventral positions. Ventrodorsal position is not recommended because of shortness of breath dog consideration. X-ray results showed Cardiomegaly which showed an enlargement of the right atrial area with a rounded heart apex, and vasodilation in the pulmonary arteries and veins. While on echocardiography/ultrasound examination showed tricuspidalis valve thickening and a bit slow closing, giving a tachycardia effect with the Right Ventricular / RV diameter ratio when diastole (1.30 cm) is greater than the Left Ventricel / LV diameter ratio (0.96 cm). Based on the results of ultrasound which is supported by the results of clinical examination, blood chemistry and X-ray, provides an interpretation of the diagnosis of Endocarditis so that treatment can be carried out appropriately and accurately.

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the growth performance and feet colour of broilers fed on diets containing low level of aflatoxin (B1 and B2) and mycosorb. The experimental design was a 4 x 2 factorial randomized complete design consisting of two main factors which were aflatoxin level and mycosorb. The treatments were control diets, control diets supplemented with mycosorb, diets containing 10 ppb aflatoxin, diets containing 10 ppb aflatoxin supplemented with mycosorb, diets containing 25 ppb aflatoxin, diets containing 25 ppb aflatoxin supplemented with mycosorb, diets containing 60 ppb aflatoxin, diets containing 60 ppb aflatoxin supplemented with mycosorb. The aflatoxin levels in the experimental diets obtained by substitution the proportion of corn of the control diets with aflatoxin corn. Variables measured were feed intake (FI), body weight gain (BWG), feed conversion ratio (FCR). Except for feet colour score, the results showed that there was no interaction (P > 0.05) between aflatoxin level and mycosorb on FI, BWG and FCR of 7d- and 14 d-old-broilers. The aflatoxin level did not affect (P > 0.05) BWG, FI and FCR (7d) but it affected (P < 0.05) the FCR (14d) and feet colour of broiler. Mycosorb did not affect (P > 0.05) all parameters observed. In conclusion, except for broiler feet colour, the supplementation of aflatoxin, mycosorb and combination between aflatoxin and mycosorb in broiler diets had no effects on the growth performance of broilers during 7 and 14 day experiment. Further research is needed to evaluate the growth performance of broilers fed diets containing high level of aflatoxin.

Abstract

Sumba ongole cattle (Bos indicus) are one of the local cattle breed in Indonesia. Cattle have a forestomach which consists of rumen, reticulum and omasum. The functions of the forestomach are to digest food, ferment and absorb carbohydrates. This research aimed to determine the histological structure of rumen, reticulum and omasum sumba ongole cattle. Six samples of rumen, reticulum and omasum were collected from slaughter East Sumba. These samples were fixed in 10% formalin and then stain with HE. The histological results showed that the rumen, reticulum and omasum have four layers was the tunica mucosa, the submucosa, the muscularis and the serosa. The tunica mucosa rumen consists of lamina epithelia which composed of stratified squamous keratinized epithelium, lamina propria have connective tissue and blood vessels. The lamina muscularis mucosa composed of smooth muscle was absent in rumen mucosa, while tunica mucosa of reticulum and omasum have a lamina epithelia, lamina propria and lamina muscularis mucosa. The tunica submucosa rumen, reticulum and omasum have connective tissue, veins, arteries, capillaries and fibroblast nuclei. The tunica muscularis rumen, reticulum and omasum have inner circular and outer longitudinal muscular. The tunica serosa rumen, reticulum and omasum consist of blood vessels, loose connective tissue and adipose tissue.

Abstract

Kecacingan merupakan penyakit kronis yang sangat merugikan pada peternakan. Penggunaan anthelmintika adalah bagian yang tidak terpisahkan dalam pengendalian parasit. Penggunaan anthelmintika yang benar perlu diperhatikan untuk menghindari resistensi cacing target terhadap anthelmintika yang digunakan. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengulas berkembangnya resistensi anthelmintika, mengulas risiko cepatnya kemunculan resistnsi anthelmintika di lahan kering Nusa Tenggara Timur, terutama dalam peternakan ruminansia, dan mengutarakan strategi manajemen guna memperlambat kemunculan resistensi. Resistensi itu muncul ketika suatu jenis/golongan cacing yang biasanya dapat dibasmi dengan anthelmintika tertentu, didapati menyintas dari terapi obat tersebut. Pendapat umum ahli menyatakan bahwa resistensi adalah sifat yang diwariskan secara genetik. Karena diwariskan secara genetik, maka cacing penyintas akan menurunkan sifat resisten kepada generasi selanjutnya. Gen resisten tersebut dimiliki oleh sebagian kecil dari populasi cacing, yang kemudian secara bertahap jumlah kelompok resisten bertambah dalam populasi cacing. Resistensi anthelmintika merupakan ancaman serius yang bisa datang kapan saja, dan akan lebih cepat datang tanpa manajemen yang baik. Upaya untuk memperlambat atau menunda datangnya resistensi adalah mempertahankan proporsi cacing dengan gen resisten tetap rendah dalam populasi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menduga tingkat prevalensi dan derajat infeksi nematoda gastrointestinal pada kambing kacang di Kota Kupang selama musim kemarau. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan September 2019 di peternakan kambing tradisional di Kota Kupang. Sebanyak 30 ekor kambing dari delapan peternakan diambil sampel fecesnya. Pengamatan parasit di dalam feses dilakukan melalui metode kuantitatif McMaster dengan larutan pengapung gula jenuh. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan statsitik deskriptif. Kambing kacang di Kota Kupang terinfeksi nematoda kelompok strongil, genus Strongyloides, dan genus Trichuris. Prevalensi infeksi strongil 33.33% dengan derajat infeksi ringan hingga sedang, prevalensi strongyloidosis sebesar 63.33% dengan derajat infeksi ringan hingga berat, dan prevalensi trichurosis sebesar 30.00%.dengan derajat infeksi ringan hingga sedang. Faktor musim berpengaruh pada tingkat prevalensi dan derajat infeksi masing-masing kelompok cacing.

Abstract

In addition to be sold freshly for consumption after being processed, se’í babi which is a popular meat product of Kupang City has also been given a vacuum packing processing with the aim to extend the shelf life of meat. This research aims to determine the effect of the packaging and storage conditions of seí babi from four meat shops in the Kupang to the growth and number of pathogenic microorganisms Staphylococcus aureus up to the some certain time. S. aureus is one of foodborne disease bacteria that can contaminate meats. Bacterial contamination can come from the environment or bacterial infections in farm. Total of 16 se’i babi samples were used in this research, 2 samples from each meat shops. Two different packaging samples from all shops were then stored in two different conditions (room temperature and refrigerator). Samples were then being proceeded for S. aureus microbial evaluation every day since day-0 to day-5. Samples were cultured on Baird Parker medium and Mannitol Salt Agar and followed by bacteria identification by Gram stain, catalase test, oxidase test, and coagulase test. The number of S. aureus colonies was calculated and the result was compared to the limit of microbial contamination based on Standar Nasional Indonesian (SNI). The number of S. aureus from day 1 until day 5 of all samples were > 1 × 102 CFU/g, more than SNI (7388:2009). The results showed differences in the total number of bacteria between meats on refrigerator temperature storage, which is in general is lower compared to meat in room temperature storage. The same trend also occurs in vacuum packed meats, they had lower number of S. aureus compared to samples without vacuum packed.

Abstract

Fasciola sp. merupakan jenis parasit yang paling banyak menginfeksi sapi bali. Gejala klinis yang khas dari infeksi faschiolosis yaitu bottle jaw. Sapi bali betina berumur 6 tahun dengan berat badan seberat 200 kg di Desa Noelbaki dengan pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan gejala klinis yakni edema pada submandibularis (bottle jaw), diare, nafsu makan baik, suhu tubuh 38.6oC dan Body Condition Score (BCS 3). Pemeriksaan laboratorium yakni pemeriksaan feses (TTGT) dan pemeriksaan darah lengkap. Hasil pemeriksaan mikroskopis sampel feses ditemukan telur cacing Fasciola sp dengan 500 TTGT. Pemeriksaan darah rutin menunjukan RBC 4,22 x 106/uL, Hb 6,8 g/L dan PCV 21,6 %. (lebih rendah dari normal). Tindakan terapi yakni pemberian antihelmentik (Oxfendazole 900 mg), ivermectin 1% sejumlah 0,04 mg dan antibiotik Procaine penicilin G, Dihydrostreptomycin Sulphate 4.000 mg. Pasca terapi, edema pada submandibularis mengalami penurunan, dan hasil pemeriksaan feses secara mikroskopis, jumlah telur cacing menjadi 100 TTGT.
