<![CDATA[Reading is an important skill to be acquired in second language learning. The significance of teaching reading is aimed at educating students to face life. However, the existence of national examination as a measurement standard brings some effects towards teachers’ beliefs in teaching reading. Moreover, it is taken as students’ final evaluation to pass the school by 40% percentage from NE and 60% from school. The soul of teaching reading to get students’ comprehension of texts can be damaged since people are thinking more pragmatic. Teachers tend to change their way in teaching reading when the national examination day is closer. This research will be conducted descriptively, using questionnaire and interview as the research instruments. In order to face the newest curriculum in Indonesia, NE is pondered as good to be held as the measurement of education in Indonesia, but the side effects in teaching reading should be taken as consideration. This paper also aims at finding out solution for betterment of education.]]>

<![CDATA[News is a specific text of media discourse that has attracted special interest. This study gains insight into how linguistic choices shape the representation of information in news stories. Because they involve decision by definition, choices have an impact on the news angles and consequentially on the content and the message conveyed in an article. Specific structures, such as passive sentences, are not only determined by simple stylistic preference, but are also the fruit of linguistic choices. The choice of such constructions in place of factually equivalent or similar ones, gives a sentence a particular direction and indicates a linguistic strategy in the (re)presentation of the facts and the speaker’s attitude. A study on an integral aspect of language use such as linguistic choices applied to news stories is of particular interest because of the essential role language plays in media and communication in general. More specifically, the present thesis is situated in the particular context of foreign news reporting, which involves also editorial choices. The main theoretical framework of this study lies on systemic functional linguistics, from which the concept of linguistic choices originates, and discourse analysis, in its particular application to news texts. <![CDATA[This research aims at studying the pragmatic use of sarcasm in Meriaq-Meriqu dialect of Sasak language. This research is a qualitative research. The data are collected via two techniques – participant observation and unstructured interview. The data are then analyzed via interactive model which consists of three main points: data reduction, data presentation and data clarification. The results show that there are three kinds of sarcastic expressions in Meriaq-Meriqu – word form, phrasal form and clause form. In word form, the reference used as sarcastic word is mostly from animal, characters and parts of body while the reference in phrasal forms is mostly taken from part of body, animal and characters. The clause form of sarcasm is divided into two kinds- direct and indirect sarcasm. In terms of functions, sarcasms have five functions- expression of intimacy, informal address, expression of anger, insinuation and humiliation.]]>

<![CDATA[This study is a qualitative research on reduced clause entitled ” A Syntactic Analysis of Reduced Clauses In The Jakarta Post’s Headlines”. It answers the types and functions of reduced clauses in the Jakarta post headlines, aiming at finding their types and functions. Data of this research are qualitative in type and sentence containing reduced clauses taken from the Jakarta post. In gathering the data, this research used metode simak (observing method). Extralingual method was used to analyze the data to find out the principles or rules of reduced clause types and functions. In displaying data, informal method was used because of ordinary word usage. This research shows that the Jakarta post’s headlines reduced clauses are three types namely present and past participle, infinitive, and appositive. Present participle usually indicates an active sentence, while past participle usually indicates the passive sentence. The reduced clause in participle form is the result of reduced adjective and adverbial clauses. Infinitive which is the result of reduced noun clause may be interpreted as adverbial of purpose or as adjectival. It consists of the complement that remains after relative pronoun and form of be are omitted. Reduced clauses in the Jakarta post’s headlines have three functions namely a modifier, an adverb, and a noun. The function of reduced clause is equivalent to the function of clause itself. Reduced adjective clause serve as an adjective clause to modify noun, reduced adverbial clause serve as adverbial and to modify the verb of the main clause.]]>

<![CDATA[Mastery of foreign languages, especially English is very important for every people. English is an international whose existence is needed in everything, especially in the world of education. Nursing students were not free from demans of mastering the English language caused many factors. The various needs mastery of English language by nursing students, English teaching materials should be developed and matched with their needs, one of them is to develop multimedia-based material models that used video, audio and image.The method of this research used research and development method. The population of this research were nursing students of STIKES Surya Global Yogyakarta. The technique and collecting data used observation, questioner and interview. Analysis of the data used central terdency measure.From the results obtained that the learning media is very interesting for students and make them motivated to learn more english language. The media can also help their language skills such as listening and speaking especially pronouncation. But there were still deficiencies in the facilities and tools of language laboratoty that inhibits in giving materials, and also the limited time of trial test so that the result of edia development has not been maximized.]]>

<![CDATA[This research is trying to describe about auf as a preposition. The aim of this research to describe the meaning of auf as a preposition and then trying to describe the equivalent meaning in Indonesian. Theories which are used in this research are the theory of Gouvernment-Binding (GB) in order to describe the auf as a preposition related with the case which causes by the auf preposition. The method of this research is a descriptive analysis method. Data in this research is written and oral data (taken from the informan). The written data is taken from several novels using German language and German dictionary. The oral data is taken from three native German university students which are used to support the data. The result of this research shows that the auf preposition in German language which has meaning as a propositional to describe a space can influence accusative and dative cases. The prepositional auf can control the accusative case in pointing a direction (Richtung), in describing a movement (Bewegung) and describing a goal (goal). The auf preposition which has accusative case is expressed by the preposition of ke in Indonesian language. The auf preposition can also control the dative case if it is describes a situation or position in some place. The description of auf preposition with dative case is expressed by the preposition of di in Indonesian language.]]>

<![CDATA[Women become a symbol of who often gets injustice and violence because she was born as female. Literary works are one of the media stories about many things in life including women's lives. Novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari as a research source. The purposes of this study are to identify forms of gender inequality in the Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk novel and analyze the factors that influence on it. The research method used is a qualitative method. The data analysis technique in this study is heuristic and hermeneutic reading. The results showed that forms of gender inequality were found in RDP novels such as sexual violence, female exploitation, and defense of the capitalist system. Sexual violence occurs because there is a system of power and control, Srintil, as a child exploited by the Kertaraja family as adults. The exploitation of women is also lasting because there are elements of kinship or close family relations between those who control and are controlled. Finally, the capitalist system that continues to run in the community, Srintil bought and sold its "virginity" to get gold. The three factors are a crucial part of gender inequality in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk (RDP) by Ahmad Tohari.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to explore the form of The Devil in the Black Jeans by AliaZalea, so Formula Literature used to understand it. Words and events in the novel as main data. The method used by analyzing parts of novel based on typology of formula literature and conecting with other similar fictions. The results show the formula such as: hero describes as a figure who close perfect; heroin describes as a common person; heroin gets gift from hero; love confession; love obstacles; touch of affection; happy ending story. Those formula could be found in romance novels such as Summer in Seoul and Pride and Prajudice. It can be said that The Devil in the Black Jeans is popular novel in romance genre.]]>

<![CDATA[Semakin berkembangnya zaman dan kemajuan teknologi sedikit banyak berimbas pada perubahan sistem sapaan yang sudah mulai memudar dalam masyarakat Mbojo, hal ini dipengaruhi oleh arus globalisasi danjuga tidak adanya rasa kecintaan masyarakat Mbojo itu sendiri terhadap budayanya. Sehingga, permasalahan utama dalam kajian ini adalah bagaimana penggunaan sistem sapaan penamaan dalam bahasa Mbojo sebagai wujud rasa penghormatan dan keakraban terhadap identitas etnik Mbojo dalam menghadapi kemajemukan peradaban. Sebagaimana diketahui, di tengah gempuran zaman masyarakat Mbojo tidak mampu lagi mempertahankan eksistensi budaya sistem sapaan penamaan ini dalam keberlangsungannya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif.Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah bunyi bahasa yang difokuskan pada penamaan masyarakat Mbojo. Data diperoleh melalui pengamatan dan pencatatan lapangan secara langsung. Adapun teori yang digunakan untuk membedah fenomena ini adalah linguistik kebudayaan, yakni sebuah teori budaya tentang makna linguistik. Temuan yang dimaksudkan dalam kajian ini seperti penamaan bentuk penghormatan dan keakraban pada nama Abubakar disapa Baka menjadi Beko, Aminah disapa Mina menjadi Mene, Abidin disapa Bidi menjadi Bedo.]]>
