Abstract

This research has five goals. If there is an effectiveness among IT, CA, and conventional models; the second is if the IT the model is more effective than the conventional one; the third is if the CA model is more effective than the conventional one; the fourth is if the IT model is more effective than the CA model; and the fifth is if the IT model is the most effective among the three models in the teaching ESP at Universitas Bumigora. This research is quasi-experimental with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The population is all of the students of ESP at Universitas Bumigora. The sample used the simple cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used are assessment rubric and English assignment sheet. The data is collected through the assignment of English and assed with English assessment rubric. The data analyzed using two-way ANOVA. The result of this study shown that there is significance difference among three teaching model one with sig. value 0.169. IT is less effective than conventional with sig 0.28 ≤ 0.05 or Ho is accepted; CA is more effective than conventional model with sig value 0.723 ≥ 0.05.

Abstract

This paper discusses further contributions of English debate within the Communicative Language Teaching framework (therefore CLT). In the English as a Foreign Language classrooms (henceforth EFL), presentation remains the prominent instructional strategy, which does not accommodate learners’ English skills and critical thinking skills development in a more engaging, interactive and critical way. Parliamentary English debate as an interactive instructional strategy has been found to mediate the aforementioned skills and the macro skills being learnt such as reading, speaking, listening and writing. However, there has been a death of scholarly discussion on the English debate’s contributions framed under the CLT. For this reason, this paper tries to shed lights on how the parliamentary English debate and its contributions to EFL learners in the CLT sphere. Debating as a teaching strategy does not only serve purposes for the students’ language skills development but also promote their critical thinking skills and self- confidence.

Abstract

This public service is aim to give knowledge and understanding to students in Universitas Bumigora. This service activity is a student’s management leadership training for basic level. Students’ needs to understand that they have important role and responsibilities in societies and in the college; students are also needs to learn how to manage their selves; to identify leadership identities and to handle conflict. The method used in this public service is there stages; pre-test, workshop and post-test. The participants are students in Universitas Bumigora especially the freshman year. The result obtained is to open horizons of thought that students’ part in the future is important not only to themselves but also to the region, further to our country. Therefore, given knowledge in this student’s management leadership training for basic level expand students understanding in the college and in the community.

Abstract

21st Century learning is learning that integrates literacy skills, knowledge skills, skills and attitudes, as well as mastery of technology. Therefore, in the 21st century, mastery of technology and learning are closely related. Technology can also be connected to language learning. With the development of the internet and technology, many companies have created free and paid applications and software to support the learning process.One of the applications that can be used in learning English is Powtoon. PowToon is a tool whose operation is similar to Power Point, Impress, or even Prezi. It uses slides to which text and images can be added to, but it also allows animation and the incorporation of sound or music, available in the same application or through an external source. This reasearch used a qualitative case study and used preeliminary data, structured interviews, and Questionnaire. The findings of the research showed students’ perceptions on the use of Powtoon in EFL classroom were: 1) Students’ Perceptions on Powtoon Helps Students in increasing English Achievements, Powtoon could be a solution to enhance EFL students' English skills to have good communication skill in the learning process. Powtoon has many beneficial features such text, music, animation, characters, and audio-visual for EFL students in enhancing their English skills, such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing,2)Students’ Perceptions on Powtoon as an Fascinating Application, Powtoon as an interesting application because there are a lot of animation, sound, and images. 3) Students’ Perceptions on Powtoon Increasing Students’ Interactive and Motivation, this application shows that learning descriptive text through the animation video from PowToon software make the learning process more interesting, and it can help students’ understanding to the material

Abstract

Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” movies also to describe sentence structures through tree-diagram. This study used a mix method research strategy on sentence structure that answers the types of sentences used in stages of plot and tree diagram portrayal in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey movie, aiming at finding the types of sentences in stages of plot and portrayal in tree diagram. Data of this research are qualitative in type and the sentences are taken from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey movie. The data is obtained through listening and note-taking method. It examines the structure of sentences using a syntactic approach in stages of plot depicted in the tree diagram. Data collected in the movie is then calculated using Bungin’s formula to find out the percentage of each sentence. In this analysis all types of sentence structures are found in the movie were simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences, and compound-complex sentences. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey movie has 1298 sentences in the film. The one that dominate the film are simple sentences which amount to 809 or 62% of the total data obtain ed, followed by compound sentences totaling 308 or 24%, then there are complex sentences totaling 125 or 10% and the last are compound-complex sentences amounting to 56 or 4% of the total data. And the tree diagram shows that the sentence has a really various phrases such as noun, verb, preposition, adjective and adverb phrase.

Abstract

Reading is an important skill to be acquired in second language learning. The significance of teaching reading is aimed at educating students to face life. However, the existence of national examination as a measurement standard brings some effects towards teachers’ beliefs in teaching reading. Moreover, it is taken as students’ final evaluation to pass the school by 40% percentage from NE and 60% from school. The soul of teaching reading to get students’ comprehension of texts can be damaged since people are thinking more pragmatic. Teachers tend to change their way in teaching reading when the national examination day is closer. This research will be conducted descriptively, using questionnaire and interview as the research instruments. In order to face the newest curriculum in Indonesia, NE is pondered as good to be held as the measurement of education in Indonesia, but the side effects in teaching reading should be taken as consideration. This paper also aims at finding out solution for betterment of education.

Abstract

Abstract Translation is a process of transfering source text into the target text viewed from the equivalent of meaning, with equvalencies, the message in the translation text will be the same as the target text. Hence, translating is not just the process of tranfering text from the source language into the target language. However, instead of ideas, translation enters compilation, he processes a translation product. The use of appropriate translation techniques also affects the quality of the translation results. This study aims to describe the ideology of translation in Indonesian Version of Agatha Christie’s Endless Night Novel. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data of this study are qualitative based on types of words, phrases and sentences containing translation techniques and ideology taken from the translated novel of Indonesian Version of Agatha Christie’s Endless Night Novel. Based on the analysis of translation techniques and the ideology of translation used in the text, the ideology used in the translation text is foreignization. Based on the analysis, the results of the study show that of the 18 translation techniques, 12 translation techniques were found consisting of; Literal translation (53%), Amplification (11%), Variation (8%), Particularization (6%), Borrowing (6%), Transposition (5%), Reduction (4%), Calque (2%), Compensation (2%). Meanwhile Description, Linguistic Compression, and Established Equivalent occur only in (1%). The result of the study shows that the most dominant technique used in Indonesian version of Agatha Christie’s endless night novel is Literal translation with 82 occurrences frequency or 53%.

Abstract

The level of awareness about education in general and the ability to speak English is still low, especially in the millennial community, so it is necessary to make innovations in learning English. In order to support the implementation of English language learning in millennial communities during the COVID-19, it is necessary to apply an online method. During the pandemic, the government's efforts, one of which is face-to-face learning, cannot be done because it is to reduce and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Based on this explanation, our team held a devotion activity by the title "Implementation of Online Methods as Optimizing English Learning for Millennials in the COVID-19 Pandemic". The results of these activities ran well. It is hoped that this activity can improve the language skills of the millennial community by being much practice, especially English.

Abstract

The purpose of this training is to increase the knowledge of students during “new normal” era through training on sustainable marketing strategies. They are expected to survive and to produce product or service competitiveness that is able to compete in competitive competition. In addition, training is carried out to provide added value and increases various marketing mixed strategies which include 4P’s (Product, Place, Price and Promotion). The method of implementing this service program is carried out by early identification who are related to the problems and obstacles faced by students. Therefore, both parties carry out the program by three steps which are preparation of materials, training or socialization, and recommendations.

Abstract

News is a particular content of media talk that has pulled in extraordinary intrigued. This think about picks up knowledge into how language structure shapes the representation of data in news stories. This research is a qualitative research on pattern of ambiguous headlines entitled “An Analysis on Structural Ambiguity’s Patterns Found in The Most Watched News Headlines in BBC NEWS”. The aim of this research is to find the pattern of structural ambiguity of the most watched news in BBC News headlines. Collectingdata inquires library data collection method (reading and note-taking technique). In this research, the researcher distinguishes the structural patterns using the syntactic theory of constituency grammar by Jurafsky (2014). The result of this research is seven of eight data which are data 1, data 2, data 4, data 5, data 6, data 7, and data 8 were ambiguous because of the order of the Preposition Phrase. In line with it, one of eight data which is data 3 was ambiguous because of the status of Verb Phrase.
