This journal aims to promote anhancement in nursing and health care through dissemination of the latest research findings. NJ covers a wide range of nursing topics such as nursing education, clinical practice, nursing information technology, advanced nursing issue and policy related to nursing profession. This journal publishes two issues per year in April and October. NJ intended readership includes nurse educator, researcher, manager, and nurse practitioner at all levels. Abstract

The  postpartum period is a time of physiological and psychological adjustment that affects a mother’s sleep quality. Sleep disturbances often occur due to hormonal changes, fatigue, and nighttime breastfeeding. This study aimed to determine the effect of a combination of postpartum exercises and warm foot soaks on the sleep quality of postpartum mothers at the Sri Wahyuni Kalipare Maternity and Child Health Clinic in Malang Regency. A quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was used. The sample consisted of 24 postpartum mothers selected using consecutive sampling. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) before and after the intervention. The intervention consisted of 15–20 minutes of postpartum exercise and 10–20 minutes of foot soaking for 7 days. Analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed that before the intervention, all respondents had poor sleep quality. After the intervention, 70% experienced an improvement to good sleep quality. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the combination of interventions can improve sleep quality in postpartum mothers. Masa nifas merupakan periode adaptasi fisiologis dan psikologis yang mempengaruhi kualitas tidur ibu. Gangguan tidur sering terjadi akibat perubahan hormonal, kelelahan, dan aktivitas menyusui malam hari. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh senam nifas kombinasi rendam kaki air hangat terhadap kualitas tidur ibu postpartum di TPMB Sri Wahyuni Kalipare Kabupaten Malang. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain pre-experimental one group pretest–posttest. Sampel sebanyak 24 ibu postpartum dengan teknik consecutive sampling. Kualitas tidur diukur menggunakan Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Intervensi berupa senam nifas 15–20 menit dan rendam kaki 10–20 menit selama 7 hari. Analisis menggunakan uji wicolxon ranged-sign test. Hasil menunjukkan sebelum intervensi seluruh responden memiliki kualitas tidur buruk. Setelah intervensi, 70% mengalami peningkatan menjadi baik. Uji statistik menunjukkan p-value 0,000 (p<0,05). Disimpulkan bahwa kombinasi intervensi dapat meningkatkan kualitas tidur ibu postpartum.

Abstract

Anxiety in primigravida pregnant women in the third trimester often occurs due to unpreparedness for childbirth and concerns about the condition of the fetus. Significant physical and psychological changes during pregnancy can trigger feelings of fear and excessive anxiety that affect the health of both the mother and the fetus. Non-pharmacological interventions such as instrumental music relaxation and positive affirmations are known to be effective in reducing anxiety, but the combination of the two has rarely been studied. This study aims to analyze the effect of instrumental music relaxation techniques with positive affirmations on the anxiety levels of primigravida pregnant women in their third trimester. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study was conducted in Malang Regency with a sample size of 20 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and analyzed using the Paired t-test. The results showed a decrease in the average anxiety score from 21.55 ± 3.47 (pretest) to 16.45 ± 2.65 (posttest) with a p-value < 0.001. It was concluded that instrumental music relaxation techniques with positive affirmations had a significant effect on reducing anxiety levels in primigravida pregnant women in their third trimester. Kecemasan pada ibu hamil primigravida trimester III sering terjadi akibat ketidaksiapan menghadapi persalinan serta kekhawatiran terhadap kondisi janin. Perubahan fisik dan psikologis yang signifikan selama kehamilan dapat memicu perasaan takut dan cemas berlebihan yang berdampak pada kesehatan ibu maupun janin. Intervensi nonfarmakologis seperti relaksasi musik instrumental dan afirmasi positif diketahui efektif menurunkan kecemasan, namun kombinasi keduanya masih jarang diteliti. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh teknik relaksasi musik instrumental dengan afirmasi positif terhadap tingkat kecemasan ibu hamil primigravida trimester III. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pra-eksperimental dengan pendekatan one group pretest-posttest. Penelitian dilaksanakan di wilayah Kabupaten Malang dengan jumlah sampel 20 responden yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Tingkat kecemasan diukur menggunakan instrumen Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) dan dianalisis menggunakan uji Paired t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya penurunan rata-rata skor kecemasan dari 21,55 ± 3,47 (pretest)  menjadi 16,45 ± 2,65 (posttest) dengan nilai p < 0,001. Disimpulkan bahwa teknik relaksasi musik instrumental dengan afirmasi positif berpengaruh signifikan terhadap penurunan tingkat kecemasan ibu hamil primigravida trimester III.

Abstract

A valid instrument is needed to measure the critical thinking disposition of nursing students so that their critical thinking abilities can be seen from the beginning. Critical thinking instruments for nursing are rarely available in Indonesian, so validating critical thinking instruments in Indonesian is very important. The purpose of this study was to validate an instrument adopted from an English-language developed by previous researchers. The method used was a quantitative with cross-sectional method where the instrument items were analyzed for validity and reliability using SPSS software after it was translated to Bahasa Indonesia. It was found that all items in the instrument, consisting of 27 items, were valid, where the  r-value was greater than the table r-value and the significance value was <0.05. The Cronbach's Alpha value was 0.862. Thus, this instrument is reliable. Therefore, this instrument can be used to measure the critical thinking abilities of nursing students, especially at the Adventist University of Indonesia. Instrumen yang valid diperlukan untuk mengukur disposisi berpikir kritis mahasiswa keperawatan sehingga dapat dilihat kemampuan kritis mereka mulai dari awal. Sangat jarang instrumen berpikir kritis untuk keperawatan dalam bahasa Indonesia sehingga melakukan validasi instrumen berpikir kritis dalam bahasa Indonesia adalah sangat penting. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melakukan validasi instrumen yang diadopsi dari instrumen yang berbahasa Inggris yang sudah dikembangkan oleh peneliti sebelumnya. Metode yang digunakan adalan metode kuantitatif dan deskriptif dimana item instrumen dianalasis nilai validitas dan reliabilitasnya menggunakan perangkat luanak SPSS. Ditemukan bahwa semua item pada instrumen yang terdiri dari 27 item ini adalah valid dimana nilai r-hitung lebih besar dari nilai r tabel dan nilai signifikansi adalah <0.05. Nilai Cronbach’s Alpha adalah 0.862. Dengan demikian instrumen ini adalah reliabel. Oleh karena itu instrumen ini dapat digunakan untuk mengukur kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa keperawatan khususnya di Universitas Advent Indonesia.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the major health problems contributing to high morbidity and mortality, with prevalence increasing with age. This study aimed to analyze changes in hypertension knowledge among pre-elderly and elderly individuals after receiving health education using leaflet media. This research uses a pre-experimental design in the form of a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 30 respondents aged 45 years and over, selected using a total sampling technique at GMAHK Parongpong. Data were collected using a hypertension knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the educational intervention. The results showed an increase in knowledge level after the intervention, as indicated by a shift in the distribution of knowledge categories from predominantly moderate in the pre-test to predominantly good in the post-test. The test results showed a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (t = -5.913; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that health education using leaflet media was associated with an immediate increase in respondents’ knowledge after the intervention. However, the findings should be interpreted with caution due to the immediate post-test measurement, the absence of a control group, and the limited sample scope. Future studies are recommended to include a control group, a larger sample, and follow-up measurements to assess long-term knowledge retention. Hipertensi merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan yang berkontribusi terhadap tingginya morbiditas dan mortalitas, dengan prevalensi yang cenderung meningkat seiring bertambahnya usia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perubahan pengetahuan tentang hipertensi pada pra-lansia dan lansia setelah diberikan edukasi kesehatan menggunakan media leaflet. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain pra-eksperimen (pre-experimental design) berupa one-group pre-test and post-test design. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 30 responden berusia 45 tahun ke atas yang dipilih dengan teknik total sampling di GMAHK Parongpong. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner pengetahuan hipertensi sebelum dan sesudah intervensi edukasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan tingkat pengetahuan setelah edukasi, yang ditandai dengan pergeseran distribusi kategori pengetahuan dari dominan cukup pada pre-test menjadi dominan baik pada post-test. Hasil uji menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antara skor pre-test dan post-test (t = -5,913; p < 0,001). Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa edukasi kesehatan menggunakan leaflet berhubungan dengan peningkatan pengetahuan responden segera setelah intervensi diberikan. Namun, hasil penelitian perlu ditafsirkan secara hati-hati karena pengukuran post-test dilakukan segera setelah edukasi, tidak adanya kelompok kontrol, serta keterbatasan cakupan sampel. Penelitian selanjutnya disarankan melibatkan kelompok kontrol, sampel yang lebih besar, dan pengukuran follow-up (tindak lanjut) untuk menilai retensi pengetahuan dalam jangka panjang.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between social support and academic stress among final-year nursing students at Universitas Advent Surya Nusantara. This research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive analytic design and a cross-sectional method. The population consisted of 37 final-year nursing students, and total sampling was applied. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and the Perceived Academic Stress Scale (PASS). Data analysis was conducted using univariate and Spearman Rank correlation tests. The results showed that most respondents had high social support (73.0%) and experienced high academic stress (78.4%). The correlation analysis revealed a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.096 with a p-value of 0.574 (p > 0.05), indicating that there was no significant relationship between social support and academic stress. These findings suggest that social support is not the main factor influencing academic stress among final-year students. Therefore, efforts to reduce academic stress should also consider other factors such as coping ability, time management, and academic support from institutions. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara dukungan sosial dengan stres akademik pada mahasiswa keperawatan tingkat akhir di Universitas Advent Surya Nusantara. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain deskriptif analitik dan rancangan cross-sectional. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 37 mahasiswa dengan teknik total sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) dan Perceived Academic Stress Scale (PASS). Analisis data dilakukan secara univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman Rank. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden memiliki dukungan sosial tinggi (73,0%) dan mengalami stres akademik tinggi (78,4%). Hasil uji korelasi menunjukkan nilai r = 0,096 dengan p-value = 0,574 (p > 0,05), sehingga tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara dukungan sosial dan stres akademik. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa dukungan sosial bukan merupakan faktor utama yang mempengaruhi stres akademik pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan perhatian terhadap faktor lain seperti kemampuan coping, manajemen waktu, dan dukungan akademik dari institusi Pendidikan.

Abstract

Therapeutic communication is a fundamental skill that nurses must possess to support the patient healing process and improve the quality of healthcare services. However, communication competence among nursing students still requires continuous evaluation, especially during clinical practice. This study aimed to describe the self-evaluation of undergraduate nursing students in applying therapeutic communication during the orientation, working, and termination phases after clinical practice. This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive design involving 75 third-year nursing students selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with median values through SPSS version 26. The results showed that the implementation of therapeutic communication in all phases was categorized as good. The most dominant aspect was the use of therapeutic greetings at the beginning of the interaction (100%), while the less dominant aspects were explaining the duration of procedures and planning follow-up meetings with patients. Overall, nursing students were able to apply therapeutic communication effectively, indicating the success of clinical practice learning. The study implies that educational institutions and clinical instructors need to strengthen clinical guidance, particularly in time contracting and follow-up planning, and encourage students to conduct continuous self-reflection to improve therapeutic communication skills. Komunikasi terapeutik merupakan keterampilan dasar yang penting bagi perawat dalam mendukung proses penyembuhan pasien dan meningkatkan mutu pelayanan kesehatan, namun kompetensi komunikasi mahasiswa masih perlu dievaluasi setelah praktik klinis. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan evaluasi diri mahasiswa keperawatan dalam menerapkan komunikasi terapeutik pada fase orientasi, kerja, dan terminasi. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain deskriptif terhadap 75 mahasiswa tingkat tiga yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner evaluasi diri dan dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif menggunakan nilai median. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan komunikasi terapeutik pada seluruh fase berada dalam kategori baik, dengan aspek paling dominan adalah pemberian salam terapeutik, sedangkan aspek yang masih kurang adalah penjelasan durasi tindakan dan perencanaan pertemuan lanjutan. Disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa mampu menerapkan komunikasi terapeutik dengan baik, sehingga diperlukan penguatan bimbingan klinis dan refleksi diri berkelanjutan.

Abstract

English language proficiency is a crucial competency in global nursing and influences students' career orientation. Final-year nursing students are in the transition phase to the workforce, so their future career expectations are a crucial aspect to examine, especially after they have received English language instruction. This study aims to describe the future career expectations of final-year nursing students after English language instruction. This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a content analysis approach. A sample of 95 students was purposively selected. Data were collected through Google Forms using open-ended questions, then coded and analyzed descriptively with IBM SPSS Statistics. The results showed that the majority of respondents hoped to work abroad (44.2%), followed by communication skills with foreign patients (21.1%) and becoming a registered nurse abroad (13.7%). Some respondents also viewed English as an added value in their work (9.5%). English language learning plays a role in shaping nursing students' global career orientation. Strengthening English language learning based on global practice needs is needed. Future research is expected to examine the factors influencing career expectations and use analytical designs to strengthen the findings. Kemampuan bahasa Inggris menjadi kompetensi penting dalam keperawatan global dan memengaruhi orientasi karir mahasiswa. Mahasiswa keperawatan tingkat akhir berada pada fase transisi menuju dunia kerja, sehingga harapan masa depan dalam karir menjadi aspek penting yang perlu dikaji, terutama setelah mereka memperoleh pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan menggambarkan harapan masa depan karir mahasiswa keperawatan tingkat akhir setelah pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan analisis konten. Sampel sebanyak 95 mahasiswa dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan melalui Google Forms menggunakan pertanyaan terbuka, kemudian dikodekan dan dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan IBM SPSS Statistics. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mayoritas responden berharap bekerja di luar negeri (44,2%), diikuti kemampuan komunikasi dengan pasien asing (21,1%) dan menjadi registered nurse di luar negeri (13,7%). Sebagian responden juga memandang bahasa Inggris sebagai nilai tambah dalam pekerjaan (9,5%). Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris berperan dalam membentuk orientasi karir global mahasiswa keperawatan. Perlu penguatan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris berbasis kebutuhan praktik global. Penelitian selanjutnya diharapkan dapat mengkaji faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi harapan karir serta menggunakan desain analitik untuk memperkuat temuan.
