Abstract

The Bondo people practice tolerance through various practices, one of which is Ngejekke. Ngejekke is one of the cultures of the Muslim community of Jepara when a Muslim dies. Uniquely, this tradition is not only followed by Muslims, but also non-Muslims. At the stages of the implementation process, such as the Welcome on behalf of the host (even if they are Muslim) is still represented by a Priest. This study aims to determine the practice of tolerance and harmony between religious adherents and the social context or what factors encourage the practice of tolerance in the Bondo community that is maintained and passed down from generation to generation. The research method uses descriptive qualitative with a process of data retrieval, data clustering, data analysis, and reflection. The approach used is phenomenology by adopting Peter L. Berger's theory of social construction to see how the construction of moderation practices that are part of the life of the Bondo community. The results show that the practice of tolerance and harmony between religious adherents in Bondo village was formed long ago and gave birth to various religious traditions such as interfaith holiday gatherings, sea alms, earth alms, and baratan which involve both. The social context or factors that encourage the practice of tolerance are based on justice and awareness of each individual, support from the government, community leaders, and other policy makers in the local area in maintaining and striving for peace between religious communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social adaptation strategies of foreign students of State Islamic Religious Universities in South Sulawesi through the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu's praxis theory. The research subjects are foreign students of PTKIN in South Sulawesi from UIN Alauddin Makassar and IAIN Palopo. This research prioritizes philosophical reflection on a problem, with an approach to the study of social philosophy using Pierre Bourdieu's theory of praxis. The stages begin with data collection, primary and secondary data grouping, research data systematization, and analysis of results. Data analysis uses methodological elements such as description, interpretation, internal coherence, and confirmability. The results are 1) foreign students of PTKIN in South Sulawesi generally experience several obstacles such as language barriers caused by the use of dialects and regional languages, differences in socio-cultural and religious conditions caused by various social norms and customary norms, to limited social networks caused by stereotypes and social assessments. 2) The social adaptation strategy is by forming the right habitus and using the right capital composition in certain fields. Higher education is a field that is being undertaken by foreign students. So, the habits that should be formed include an attitude of responsibility, diligence, discipline, never giving up and mutual respect. Meanwhile, some of the capital needed is strengthening Indonesian and English language skills as cultural capital, scholarship awards as economic capital, networking skills as social capital, and academic status as symbolic capital.

Abstract

This research attempts to highlight the syncretism of Islam and local culture that occurs in the reality of society. The focus of this research is what elements of the principles are syncretized with each other, in what ways and at what level the syncretic process occurs. Syncretism is a combination of two opposing elements, initially referring to the unification carried out in political matters, then developing in the field of religion, especially Christianity and Protestantism. The development of today's science that is experiencing ups and downs has also impacted the use of terms that are not only dichotomous in one field but also diverse in nature. The results of this research show that the syncretic elements are in a series of religious rituals, the media used through the externalization of culture. The conclusion of this research is the existence of syncretism between Islamic culture and local culture of the archipelago.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the concept of a harmonious family in the begalan tradition in Kerandon Village, West Java. The begalan tradition is a traditional tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation in Kerandon Village and has a deep meaning for the welfare of the family. The research method used is a qualitative approach using interviews, observation and document analysis as data collection techniques. The research results show that the begalan tradition has an important role in forming a harmonious family and strengthening social ties between family members. The symbolism in this tradition, such as the fight between Brandal Lokat Caya and Prince Bonang, the distribution of luggage, and the symbolic meaning of the objects used, reflect harmonious family values ​​such as cooperation, mutual respect and mutual cooperation. The novelty in this research lies in the in-depth analysis of harmonious family values ​​in the symbolic context of local culture which has not been revealed much in previous studies. These findings show that the begalan tradition is not only a cultural heritage, but also a medium for character formation and strengthening social values ​​in the family amidst changing times. The implications of the findings of this research indicate that the begalan tradition plays an important role in building a harmonious family and provides a forum for strengthening family ties and social values.

Abstract

Community health workers play a vital role in advancing community-based health efforts. They educate the public, conduct early disease detection, promote healthy behaviors, and serve as a bridge between the community and healthcare services. This care work is often associated with women, who are perceived to have ample free time to contribute. However, only a small number of women, primarily those over the age of 40, continue to remain active in this roles. This raises the question of why some women choose to become health workers and persist in this role. This ethnographic research, conducted from February to April 2024 in western Yogyakarta, utilizes interviews and participant observation with an active community health worker. By employing a life history approach, this study highlights how the lived experiences and personal narratives of health workers shape and motivate their commitment to care work. The study provides insight into the challenges faced by these workers and emphasizes the intrinsic values and satisfaction they derive from their contributions to the community. These findings have important policy implications, particularly regarding incentives that could enhance the motivation of community health workers. Additionally, this research can inform the development of better policies aimed at increasing community participation.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the application of Jalaluddin Rumi’s concept of love-based education in the context of special needs education. This study employs a qualitative library research approach, analyzing primary sources from Rumi’s poetry and prose alongside secondary literature on Islamic education, Sufism, and special needs education. Data were examined using thematic analysis to identify key educational principles relevant to children with special needs. The findings reveal three major thematic outcomes: (1) love as a foundational ethical and spiritual principle that affirms the inherent dignity of children with special needs; (2) the educator–learner relationship as an empathetic and transformative engagement rather than a purely instructional interaction; and (3) education as a healing-oriented process that addresses emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions alongside academic development. The study highlights the practical implications of Rumi’s love-based educational philosophy for inclusive education, particularly in designing compassionate curricula, strengthening teachers’ empathetic competencies, and fostering supportive learning environments that accommodate the holistic needs of children with special needs. These findings contribute to the discourse on inclusive and humanistic educational approaches by offering a spiritually grounded framework for improving educational practices for children with special needs.

Abstract

Islamic-themed children's songs distributed through digital media serve as both educational entertainment and a means of Islamic propagation. The song “Bocah Cilik-cilik,” published on Ulinnuha's official YouTube channel, has captured the attention of the Indonesian Muslim community because it combines local culture with values ​​that shape children's religious character. Therefore, this study uses a qualitative approach with Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis method. Data in the form of song lyrics are analyzed through three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth, to uncover the symbolic meaning and ideology of Islamic propagation. The analysis shows that at the denotative level, the song lyrics represent children's religious activities. At the connotative level, the song constructs idealized piety and religious behavior as normative values ​​for Muslim children. At the mythical level, the song constructs an ideological narrative that positions children as symbols of Islamic obedience and morality. These findings confirm that the Islamic propagation message in children's songs is not neutral but rather is imbued with ideology conveyed through cultural representations and digital media. Therefore, a critical study of the content of children's da'wah is important to understand the construction of meaning and the formation of collective consciousness of Muslim society in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan memahami bagaimana nilai-nilai Pancasila dimaknai, dipersepsi, dan diekspresikan dalam kehidupan sosial beragama masyarakat Desa Sidomulyo, Kecamatan Silo, Kabupaten Jember, yang mendeklarasikan diri sebagai “Kampung Pancasila.” Kajian ini menggunakan kerangka Teo-Demokrasi untuk menelaah keterpaduan antara dimensi ketuhanan (teosentris) dan kemanusiaan (antroposentris) dalam praktik sosial masyarakat multikultural. Lima prinsip utama Teo-Demokrasi, yaitu al-Musawah (kesetaraan), al-‘Adalah (keadilan), As-Syūrā (musyawarah), al-Hurriyah (kebebasan), dan Riqabatul Ummah (pengawasan rakyat), digunakan sebagai landasan analitis untuk menjelaskan manifestasi nilai-nilai Pancasila dalam relasi sosial beragama di tingkat desa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi, yang berfokus pada pengalaman hidup (lived experiences), pemahaman, serta ekspresi masyarakat dalam menjalani kehidupan sosial beragama. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan telaah dokumen desa, dengan pemilihan subjek penelitian dilakukan secara purposive berdasarkan relevansinya dengan fokus kajian. Analisis data dilakukan secara interaktif melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan, serta diuji keabsahannya melalui triangulasi sumber dan member checking. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai Pancasila tidak hanya dipahami secara normatif, tetapi diaktualisasikan secara nyata dalam kehidupan sosial beragama masyarakat Desa Sidomulyo. Praktik toleransi lintas agama, partisipasi musyawarah, keadilan sosial, kebebasan beragama, serta keterbukaan terhadap pengawasan masyarakat berjalan secara harmonis dan tidak bertentangan dengan prinsip-prinsip syariat Islam. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa Teo-Demokrasi Afifuddin Muhajir relevan sebagai pendekatan analitis untuk membaca praktik keberagamaan masyarakat multikultural, sekaligus menunjukkan bahwa Pancasila berfungsi sebagai nilai hidup (living values) yang menopang kohesi sosial dan demokrasi di tingkat lokal.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has caused a paradigm shift in the landscape of Islamic Education (PAI). On one hand, digital-based learning media offers various benefits in the breadth of interaction and information access. On the other hand, it creates certain challenges in the maintenance of spiritual values in character. This article reviews the literature on the trend of research on digital learning media for PAI during the 2021-2025 period. The results show that most studies on innovations in e-learning platforms, social media, and interactive applications in PAI learning, especially during the pandemic, have proved to increase student access and motivation to learn. On the other hand, only a few studies integrated the value of Islamic prophetic teaching into the use of such media. This article introduces the concept of Prophetic Digital Media as a conceptual framework that integrates technology (techne), ethics (ethos), and spirituality (spiritus) grounded in Qur'anic digital literacy. This way, digital media in PAI are not merely technical tools but also a da'wah tool and a means of internalizing values. The study concludes with a conceptual model of “Prophetic Digital Media”, which is expected to become a new paradigm in developing PAI learning media combining the strengths of digital innovation with ethical and spiritual foundations according to Islamic teachings.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media brings new challenges for adolescents, one of which is an increased possibility of online gender-based violence. An adequate understanding of the definition, types, and effects of online gender-based violence is needed because adolescents, especially junior high school students, are a vulnerable group. Chi-square test analysis is a descriptive quantitative method used in this study. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 60 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 22 Bengkulu city. Symbolic interaction theory was used in this study to understand how students perceive online gender-based violence based on their experiences and social interactions. The results showed that students' understanding of online gender-based violence was good, with an average score of 4.00. Most students understood the definition, forms, and impacts of online gender-based violence and were aware that victims of online gender-based violence could come from various genders and ages. Students' knowledge was obtained through social media, education at school, and socialization from related institutions. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening sustainable gender-based digital education in schools to increase awareness and prevent online gender-based violence among adolescents
