Abstract

This community engagement is implemented as result of research dissemination on EFL teaching reading. This paper attempts to assist senior high school teachers in implementing the teaching of reading using collaborative Pamanpintermu reading software in EFL classroom. The mentoring program was conducted for six weeks at SMAM Bungah Gresik. Mentoring and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) is employed for the method of the community engagement. The results of Pamanpintermu implementation in the teaching and learning of EFL reading showed positive response from both teachers and students. Through Pamanpintermu, the teachers could monitor students’ reading progress and they could more effectively address students’ problems in reading class. In the long-term program, it is hoped that Pamanpintermu can be integrated in EFL curriculum at Senior High School in Gresik.

Abstract

Abstract: Spirulina, multicellular and filamentous cyanobacterium, has already known for its bioactivities as functional food and fishes diets. In this study, mass production of Spirulina was demonstrated in modified salinity for 25 days. The aims of this study was to determine the best salinity to obtain optimal growth rate of Spirulina. The cultivation method were small to large-scale and evaluated the water quality. Results showed that salinity reduction influence algal biomass. Spirulina’s density was 41.8x103 cells ml-1 in 15 ppt; 81x103 cells ml-1 in 20 ppt; 145x103 cells ml-1 in 23 ppt; 160x103 cells ml-1 in 25 ppt; and 270x103 cells ml-1. After cultivated in large-scale production, the most efficient treatment was 20 ppt with the cells density 510x103 cells ml-1 in 23th day in salinity 20 ppt. The results suggest that mass-produced Spirulina can be characterized using modificated salinity technique.

Abstract

Food needs in urban areas are increasing along with increasing population growth. The problem of population growth in urban areas is always followed by the construction of housing facilities. The development of housing facilities has an impact on the availability of land and water resources for fish farming and agriculture. Aquaponics technology is a combination of aquaculture and hyroponics technology in one system to optimize the function of water and space as maintenance media. Aquaponic system is a system that offers solutions related to narrow land use and limited water resources for fish and plant cultivation activities. In this community service activity, the aquaponics system was introduced to the community in the Dahanrejo area, with several activities carried out including the creation of an aquaponics unit, counseling and training given to the community on this aquaponics technique and unit. In carrying out community service activities there are several stages that need to be carried out including: location surveying, designing and testing of acuponic technology, counseling and training, monitoring and surveying. From the activities carried out, 20 people received training on how to use the land for freshwater fish cultivation and crop cultivation using aquaponics technology. In addition, an aquaponic unit was handed over to the kelurahan as a model for the existing community.

Abstract

Noodles are foods that are often consumed by the community as a substitute for rice carbohydrates. Generally, noodles are only made from wheat flour which only has a carbohydrate source. Nutritional needs are not only carbohydrates but also fats and proteins and mineral groups. The purpose of this study was to determine the sensory properties of wet noodle products added with Moringa oleifera leaf flour with various concentrations. The concentration of Moringa oleifera flour compared to wheat flour used in making wet noodles was 0%:100%, 5%:95%, 10%:90%, and 15%:85%. The analytical parameters used are taste, color, aroma , and texture. The panelists used were untrained panelists. Panelists were asked to analyze the hedonic test on the sample of wet noodles served. The results showed that the concentration of Moringa oleifera leaf flour and wheat flour had an influenced on the hedonic level of each parameter in wet noodles. Overall, the best organoleptic value for wet noodles added with Moringa oleifera leaf flour was 5% and wheat flour 95% which had an average hedonic level of 103.06 colors, 102.34 aromas, 103.63 taste, and 100.71 on texture. While the lowest hedonic value was in the ratio of Moringa oleifera leaf flour and wheat flour of 15%: 85% with hedonic results 32.09 colors, 29.44 aromas, 29.89 taste, and 38.37 in texture. So it can be concluded that Moringa oleifera leaf flour is good in organoleptic substitution by 5%. Similar studies are needed with different or smaller concentrations of Moringa oleifera leaf powder.

A total of 33 students of SDN Dumajah 1 Bangkalan were targeted in this socialization. The results obtained after the socialization were that knowledge about healthy snacks increased from 9,1% to 36,4%, while students' interest in saving increased sharply from 0% to 87,9%. The follow-up evaluation carried out 6 months after the socialization showed good results where the students previously did not have savings, now even all of them have savings with most of the nominal around Rp. 500,000, - to Rp. 700,000, -. It’s means that multidisciplinary extension activities are effective in increasing children's interest in saving.

Abstract

The high cost of shrimp or lobster feed is also a problem in the sustainability of aquaculture, even though freshwater crayfish, including eaters, require proper and relatively cheap feed selection. One source of feed that can be used as an alternative is green clams and silk worms. This study aims to determine which feed is better and more affordable for freshwater lobster seeds, so that the sustainability of cultivation can be well maintained in terms of economy, quality and quantity. The method used was descriptive comparing between the two feeds given a dose of each treatment, namely 10% of the lobster seed biomass, then analyzed using a 95% confidence level t-test. The results showed a significant effect (P <0.05), on the absolute length growth and absolute weight of freshwater lobster seeds. The absolute length of the seeds given green shellfish feed is 0.94 ± 0.38 cm and silkworm feed is 0.66 ± 0.27 cm, for the absolute weight of green shellfish feed is 5.11 ± 0.38 gr and silk worm feed 2.68 ± 0.18 gr. The best results from the two feeding treatments for freshwater lobster seeds were using green shellfish feed with an absolute weight value of 5.11 ± 0.38 gr and the absolute length is 0.94 ± 0.38 cm. So that green shellfish feed can be used as a better alternative feed for the cultivation of freshwater lobster seed enlargement.
