Abstract

The Malay-language Upin & Ipin animated series is very popular with children. However, watching Upin & Ipin too often can have a negative influence on children’s language development. According to psycholinguistic, it can be related to language acquisition in children especially in early childhood which is in the critical stage of first language acquisition. The purpose of this study is to analyze an 8-year-old boy with the initial N who lives in Ungaran village. The child has language differences in communication. The theory in this study uses behaviorism according to Watson (1998). The research method used is the simak method with basic technique, i.e. sadap technique; then the advanced technique used are the simak bebas libat cakap (SBLC) technique and rekam technique. The results found 10 conversational data using Malay language as a response to the boy with the initial N in communicating and 6 non-conversational data in the form of vocabulary used by the boy.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the functions and meanings of kalam insya’ thalabi found in the verses of Surah Taha. The focus of the discussion is on identifying the functions, types, and meanings of insya’ thalabi, such as commands (amr), prohibitions (nahi), and questions (istifham). This study employs a qualitative research approach, utilizing a qualitative descriptive analysis method with a linguistic analysis framework. The primary source of data consists of verses from Surah Taha in the Qur'an containing insya’ thalabi. Data collection techniques include library research and textual analysis of Qur'anic verses. The data is analyzed through a balaghah lens to uncover the functions and meanings inherent in each form of kalam insya’ thalabi within Surah Taha.

Abstract

The difference in rights and freedoms between women and men is a form of injustice or discrimination, as happened in Arab society. This was formed due to cultural factors and ancient thinking of the community, which was able to hinder the progress or emancipation of women until now. The injustice is in the form of women's limitations in family and political law. From these problems, the majority of women and activists who support women, try to increase emancipation and fight for women's rights again. From this statement, the researcher aims to reveal the intention of a news article entitled سؤال تحرر المرأة المُتَجَدِّد by Kamal Abdullatif on the online magazine website Al-Arabi. The analysis was carried out using a descriptive qualitative method with a read-note data collection technique. Meanwhile, the approach used in this study is Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis, which provides an understanding of the position of the subjects and the involvement of the reader in the discourse. The results of the analysis show that there is an interest from the author of the article, Kamal Abdullatif, to invite readers to participate in supporting women's emancipation. This research is expected to be the basis for further research to examine similar objects and issues more deeply, so that it can enrich the discourse and strengthen efforts in upholding gender equality.

Abstract

As women play an important role in shaping the character of a quality generation, women’s empowerment is an investment for a better future. This study aims to; 1) reveal women’s subjectivity in Juliet Mitchell’s feminist psychoanalysis perspective; 2) analyze the role of women’s empowerment reflected to female characters; and 3) explore the dynamics between social structure, culture, and psychology of female characters in the novel Zeina by Nawal El Saadawi This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method. The data source of this research is the novel “Zeina” by Nawal El Saadawi and complemented by theoretical and other references that have relevance. Data collection techniques use translation, reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques use the Miles and Huberman models. The results of this study show that; 1) the subjectivity of female characters in the novel “Zeina” includes; identity differences, resilience and self-formation, internal and external conflicts, and struggles for emancipation and freedom 2) The role of empowerment reflected in female characters, includes; women becoming entertainers, women becoming magazine leaders, and women becoming literary critics as well as department heads. 3) The dynamics that occur between social, cultural, and psychological structures of female characters are; the influence of trauma in identity formation, identity reconstruction, and identity transformation through trauma healing. This research confirms that women can empower themselves, even in a patriarchal environment. Empowerment through education, employment, and psychological support is important as a foundation for women’s role as agents of change.

Abstract

Bullying is a social problem that often occurs, especially in educational settings. Bullying can have an impact on the victim's psychological condition, mental, physical, and emotional control. This research was conducted to describe the text structure, social cognition, and social context using Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis model in the movie “From The Ashes”. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data sources are divided into primary data sources in the form of the movie “From the Ashes” and secondary data sources, in the form of supporting data from several literature sources, journals, and materials from the internet related to the topic of study. This research uses the techniques of watching, reading, and taking notes to collect data. The analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study are: (1) The text structure consists of macro-structure elements in the form of themes raised, namely the issue of bullying, superstructure in the form of the plot of this film, and micro-structure focusing on semantic aspects, namely setting, details, and intent. (2) Social cognition that shows the director's views regarding social discourse in the Arab educational environment related to the issue of bullying and discipline in schools. (3) Social context that brings people's views that bullying cases in the educational environment, especially among teenagers, still occur.

Abstract

Effective cross-cultural communication is essential in today’s globalized workplace, where employees from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds interact daily. Pragmatics, which examines how meaning is conveyed beyond literal words, plays a crucial role in ensuring mutual understanding and minimizing misinterpretations. This literature review explores the intersection of pragmatics and cross-cultural communication, analyzing its impact on employee performance. Key aspects such as speech acts, implicate, politeness strategies, and context-dependent meaning are examined in relation to workplace dynamics. Findings suggest that pragmatic competence enhances collaboration, reduces conflicts, and fosters a more inclusive work environment, ultimately improving employee productivity and job satisfaction. However, challenges such as cultural biases, misaligned communication expectations, and power distance issues may hinder effective pragmatic adaptation. The review highlights the need for targeted training programs and organizational policies that promote pragmatic awareness to optimize intercultural workplace interactions. Future research should further investigate industry-specific applications and the role of technology in facilitating pragmatic competence across cultures.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze research trends related to the use of technology in Arabic language learning from 1993 to 2024 using bibliometric analysis methods. The research data was obtained from the Scopus database, and through data processing, the authors identified 100 relevant publications. The bibliometric analysis revealed that 2023 had the highest number of publications, with 21 articles related to the use of technology in Arabic language learning. Furthermore, a significant citation trend associated with this topic occurred in 2022, with a total of 135 citations in scientific literature. Regarding the origin of the research, Malaysia emerged as the leading contributor with 24 related publications, while Saudi Arabia stood out as the country with the most significant international collaboration, with 23 collaborative links with other countries. Of all the journals that published this research, 26 were classified as Q1 journals, indicating a high level of relevance and impact of this research in the scientific literature. A deeper analysis revealed that the focus of research related to the use of technology in Arabic language learning encompasses four main aspects: 1) Deep Learning and e-learning; 2) Speech recognition; 3) Learning systems and machine learning; 4) Natural language processing. This study provides a comprehensive insight into the research trends and developments in the use of technology in the context of Arabic language learning over the past two decades.

Abstract

Snacks are specific forms of food that play an important role in people's lives and reflect local beliefs, culture and values. In Javanese society, the naming of traditional snacks is often associated with physical characteristics and sounds, so this research focuses on identifying the forms of naming traditional East Javanese snacks that contain phonestemic and onomatopoeic elements and their relationship with local culture. Furthermore, this study aims to describe the kinds of onomatopoeia, phonestemics and cultural elements to show the various forms underlying the diversity of Javanese language in the naming of traditional East Javanese snacks. The data sources of the research are reliable informants who can provide information about traditional East Javanese snacks, literature, and supporting documents. The research data was taken in December 2024 - February 2025. Data was collected using literature study, interview, and observation techniques. Furthermore, the data that has been classified is then analyzed using agih and padan methods. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study analyzed phonemically 55 traditional East Javanese snack names and found phonestemic elements in the form of (1) big and small nuances; (2) hard and soft nuances, as well as onomatopoeic elements consisting of (1) root words as basic words; (2) root words plus formatives; (3) root words doubled; (4) root reduplication; and (5) based on compound words. In addition to the naming of traditional East Javanese snacks being analyzed for its formation, the naming of these snacks is also based on various cultural influences that develop in the community and become local wisdom. The results show that the character of the formation of traditional East Javanese snack names is not only unique from its phonestemic and onomatopoeic naming, but also closely related to local wisdom and cultural identity of the local community.

Abstract

The focus of this research is to analyze the representation of women's social roles in Amer Al-Jazie's caricatures on the Instagram account @amer_al_jazie using Sarah Mills' Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study highlights four caricatures that display gender construction in Iraqi society. The results show that Amer Al-Jazie's caricatures represent the social role of women with a critical approach to the social construction of gender in Iraq. On the one hand, it criticizes patriarchy and traditional gender norms that oppress women, but on the other hand, it maintains certain gender stereotypes, which place men as the dominant party. Women are represented in various positions, both as subjects with agency and as objects controlled by patriarchal social structures. In Aljazie's caricatures, women are often positioned as individuals who are under social pressure, controlled and judged, whether in social media, state policies, households, or community norms, while men have more agency in determining their own roles and the roles of women.

Abstract

Budaya lokal memegang peranan penting dalam pembentukan karakter dan jati diri siswa. Adat Seren Taun di Citorek sebagai salah satu warisan budaya Jawa Barat mempunyai nilai-nilai luhur yang relevan dengan pembelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Ilmu Sosial (IPAS) di sekolah dasar. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana nilai-nilai budaya Seren Taun dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam kurikulum IPAS. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini mengkaji potensi internalisasi nilai-nilai tradisional tersebut untuk memperkuat pembelajaran berbasis karakter dan kearifan lokal di sekolah dasar. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa melalui internalisasi nilai-nilai seperti kerjasama, pelestarian lingkungan, dan rasa syukur terhadap alam, pembelajaran IPTEK dapat menjadi lebih kontekstual dan relevan bagi siswa. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa pemanfaatan konteks lokal dalam pembelajaran sangat efektif untuk membantu siswa tingkat sekolah dasar memahami konsep IPAS (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial) secara lebih konkrit dan bermakna. Dalam hal ini guru berperan penting dengan menghubungkan materi pelajaran dengan kegiatan yang dilaksanakan dalam upacara Seren Taun di Citorek
