Abstract

The Korean drama "SKY Castle" received the highest rating of any Korean drama, coming in at 23.78%. The drama "SKY Castle" explores authoritarian parenting and rivalry in South Korean schooling, according to director Jo Hyun Tak. SKY Castle addresses social concerns that are grounded in South Korean reality and bear similarities to social realities in Indonesia. One type of authoritarian parenting that parents in Indonesia engage in is forcing their children to choose their college and university majors. This is because parents have preconceived notions about certain majors and public universities, believing that it will ensure their children's success and financial security. The Stuart Hall reception analysis method is applied in this qualitative study. Interviews and document reviews are the data-collecting methods used in this study. Based on their cultural experiences and backgrounds, the results demonstrate that every informant's viewpoint on authoritarian parenting in the Korean drama "SKY Castle" varies. Mostly because parents of the informants have preconceived notions about certain majors, particularly STEM majors like engineering, medicine, law, and public universities, which can negatively affect both the parent-child bond and the mental health of the child. The informants concurred that SKY Castle depicts parents in an authoritarian manner; nonetheless, majority of them brought up Professor Cha's family, pointing out that other families do not treat their kids harshly. The five informants are, in summary, in a negotiated position.

Abstract

Online learning demands specific teacher preparation, particularly in the effective utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovations tailored to the unique needs and capabilities of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study focused on the ICT innovations adopted by educators at the London School Beyond Academy (LSBA), a vocational school catering to autistic students in Jakarta, during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 8 main informants who are educators were selected by snowbowling sampling. Data collection involved multiple methods, including in-depth interviews, observations, and literature reviews. Documentation included archiving interview recordings, interview transcripts, and observation notes. The data analysis technique was carried out by adopting the conceptual framework of "School Improvement" (Huberman & Miles, 1984). The findings revealed that the adoption of technological innovations at LSBA is a collaborative effort involving school administrators, educators, and academics, all of whom work together to tailor the use of ICT to the unique abilities of each ASD student. During the assessment of new students, psychologists and educators encountered challenges in conducting online observations. Consequently, this circumstance necessitated adjustments to the learning system to accommodate the diverse abilities of ASD students.

Abstract

In the past, radio was a tool of struggle that was able to inform news to all corners of Indonesia. Even though this broadcasting tool has become a second alternative due to the impact of the internet, many communities still use it. In Aceh there are radio stations that actively inform election updates and politicians take advantage of this opportunity. This research explains the existence of radio in the implementation of elections both as an educational and campaign media. This study focuses on the role of radio in Aceh in the implementation of elections which ultimately confirms the existence of radio in supporting all stages of the election. The approach used is a case study approach based on field data obtained by researchers. This research involved two local private radio stations and one public radio station, RRI. The research results show that radio has a role as a supporting media for elections by presenting accurate and balanced information so as to reduce hoax issues that have the potential to arise during the election period. Furthermore, radio also acts as a bridge between prospective voters and legislative candidates and political parties. Radio plays a role in strengthening democracy in Aceh. The existence of radio is maintained in the current disruptive era because radio stations in Aceh are converging media from conventional to digital by utilizing technology and digital media platforms. In this way, the existence of radio remains relevant and contributes to providing content that is local, current and useful for the people of Aceh.

Abstract

Temanggung Regency, as an upstream area, has critical land, so the Regional Government has launched a Sustainable Soil and Water Conservation Program. The purpose of the audit communication for this socialization program is to diagnose the challenges and barriers that occur in the socialization process of a sustainable soil and water conservation program in Temanggung Regency and provide recommendations for future socialization. This research employs a concurrent embedded mixed methods design, with qualitative methodology as the primary method and quantitative methodology as the secondary method, in a proportion of 80% qualitative and 20% quantitative. Based on the results of the diagnosis, it is known that there is interference, which is a factor inhibiting the success of the socialization carried out in each observation unit. Several recommendations were made based on the audit that had been carried out. Namely, communicators must improve interpersonal communication abilities/skills and implement interactive communication to create more effective two-way communication. The context of the socialization implementation is carried out at the right time to support the effectiveness of the message's performance. Messages are packaged in clear, straightforward, intact, and simple language but must be supplemented with content according to program implementation instructions. The frequency needs to be increased, and a unique account for the conservation program is created. Written and bureaucratic communication must be maintained, but the effectiveness of the communication network needs to be increased through WhatsApp groups and other media. It is necessary to evaluate community feedback.

This research aims to analyse a short film titled "Kos - Kosan", which address the issue of prejudice and stereotypes related to religious conflict, focusing on the subject-object position, author-reader positions depicted in the scenes shown. Using Sara Mills' Critical Discourse Analysis and a descriptive qualitative analysis method, this study seeks to describe the impact on women and explore the perspective and actions taken by viewers of the short film plot towards the object, women. This study found that the conflict that occurs is primarily due to misunderstandings in communication, where the subject directs the object toward an understanding that negative connotation. Similarly, viewers tend to perceive women in terms of immorality and promiscuity rather than discrimination and intolerance. One of the factors causing misunderstandings in communication between the actors of this short film is nonverbal communication, including facial expressions and body language, which often lead to misinterpretation.

Abstract

Indonesia's diversity creates opportunities for interfaith marriages. Although these marriages cannot be legally registered in Indonesia, their prevalence is increasing. This controversy stems from the belief that marriage is a private matter and shouldn't be regulated by the state. This study aims to describe public sentiment towards interfaith marriage through the Cretivox YouTube video "Suami Kristen, Istri Islam." In communication, interaction in social media, in this case commenting on YouTube videos, falls into the category of computer mediated communication (CMC). CMC theory is a type of integrable communication in which two or more people can only communicate or exchange information through a computer or referring to any kind of communication in which computer technology is used as a medium to connect individuals or groups of people to talk to each other. In research using CMC theory, Netnography is the most suitable approach where netnography is defined as a qualitative research methodology that adapts ethnographic research techniques to study the culture and community that occurs in CMC. This research found that public sentiment is generally positive, though some responses disagree. Some public argue against interfaith marriages, citing contradictions with Islamic values, while others oppose them as a precaution. Some comments shared their own interfaith marriage experiences, and some expressed hesitation or plans to enter such marriages.

Abstract

The 2024 General Election will be held on February 14th, 2024. As this nation's most significant political agenda, all groups are involved in the 2014 General Election. Because of this, there is expected to be a discourse battle in every election involving political actors, the mass media, and the public. Not only do information and news form positive discourse, but negative discourse also spreads. The public, candidates, and state actors color the public media space with clear information and good news and salt it with dirty information. Hoax on social media in media and fake news among the masses in the 2024 general election threaten social cohesion and national integration, as happened in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. There must be efforts to stem the spread of hoax and fake news. One of them is digital literacy, including digital media literacy. This research aims to analyze the construction of digital literacy, including digital media, in the 2024 general election to stem hoax and fake news in the 2024 general election. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and library data. The research results show that, firstly, the election moment is a time that is prone to the circulation of hoax and fake news. This is where digital literacy skills, including digital media literacy, emerge. Second, at a macro level, the state is responsible for digital literacy programs, including digital media literacy. Third, public communication between the Ministry of Communication and Information and the community is a vital bridge that must continue to be maintained and improve its effectiveness and efficiency so that the state's role in building digital literacy, including digital media literacy, is realized as quickly as possible.

Abstract

Brand positioning is an effort to position the perception of a brand for consumers. The strength of brand positioning has the power to drive consumers to provide more value than competitors, which can be supported by the Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) model. This research is based on efforts to improve and strengthen the brand positioning held by Polytechnic Caltex Riau. This is supported by the achievement of student admissions to Polytechnic Caltex Riau, which has shown a positive trend over the past five years amidst intense competition among vocational higher education institutions. This study explores how the IMC implemented by Polytechnic Caltex Riau can help strengthen brand positioning. The research method used in this study is qualitative, with data collection conducted directly and indirectly, and the sample selection technique is purposive sampling. The results of the research analysis found that the Integrated Marketing Communication of Polytechnic Caltex Riau is divided into two categories: the high category (Sales Promotion, Advertising, Sponsorship, Exhibitions, Merchandising, Social media, and Website) and the low category (Direct Marketing, Public Relations, Packaging, and Selling and Sales Management). The implementation process of marketing communication activities at Polytechnic Caltex Riau has seven layers of marketing tools, which the researcher refers to as the wafer layer marketing communication model. It is hoped that the IMC model used by Polytechnic Caltex Riau, which has seven stages in marketing communication activities including the Report, student admission announcement, Socialization, Follow Up, Engagement Program, Workshop, and Goes to School Program, can be used by other campuses to strengthen the brand positioning of vocational higher education institutions.

Abstract

Dapur Sehat Atasi Stunting (Healthy Kitchen Overcomes Stunting) or DAHSAT is one intervention step that was launched by BKKBN to tackle the problem of stunting. This study aimed to elucidate the communication strategy of BKKBN Jawa Tengah when implementing DAHSAT in Semarang. The Communication Strategy will be further examined in the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. This research was conducted using the case study method through in-depth interview techniques. BKKBN has not been optimal in developing the communication strategy of the DAHSAT Program, especially at the stage of mapping the sociodemographic aspects of the target audience. The research result indicates that BKKBN Jawa Tengah had not fully implemented a structured communication strategy. Even though it is not optimal, the health communication process that occurs in the implementation of DAHSAT has helped some communities understand what stunting is and how to prevent it.
