Abstract

Spotted rabbitfish (Siganus guttatus Bloch 1787) are valuable commercial fish species. Research on the fish species has been carried out in the waters of Kotania Bay, aiming to obtain information about size, density and potential of the fish species. Data are collected about total length (TL), weight and number of individual fish at four observation stations using 120m length of bottom gillnet with mesh size of 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 dan 3.5 inches. The bottom gillnet is operated in a circle that starting two hours before the low tide then the spotted rabbitfish caught are collected at the low tide. The results showed that the total length of the spotted rabbitfish is in the range of 11,3 – 33,9 cm which has dominated by fish with sizes of 18, 24 and 26 cm. Mean density of the fish is 209 individual/ha, so the abundance the fish in the area of seagrass beds 823.62 ha was estimated as 172.486 of fish individual, it’s 72,51% or 125.070 individuals are those fishes that has spawned for the first time. The mean weight of the spotted rabbitfish at this size is 533,51 grams, so calculated biomass is 66,73 tons and MSY value is 33,365 tons in wet season.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest tuna producers in the world. In Indonesia tuna is produced by small-scale fishermen. This shows that small-scale tuna fisheries play an important role and as the mainstay of national food. However, the number of fish caught has not been followed by the welfare of small-scale fishermen. The exported tuna commodity also face difficulty in entering the market because it does not meet the requirements of the importing country, one of which is related to traceability. This is the concern of the Indonesian Fisheries and Community Foundation (MDPI). MDPI is a non-governmental organization that promotes fair trade-based fisheries in Indonesia. The evidence of fair trade fisheries implementation is through fair trade certification. The focus of this study is to analyze the role of the Indonesian Fisheries and Society (MDPI) in fair trade certification for tuna commodities in Indonesia. The research was conducted using descriptive qualitative research methods sourced from secondary data in the form of literature studies. In this study, the authors use the concept of the role of non-governmental organizations and fair trade. Researcher found that in fair trade certification for tuna commodities in Indonesia, the MDPI Foundation carries out three roles partner, implementer and catalyst. research is important to understand that non-governmental organizations play an important role in fair trade.

Abstract

Karimunjawa National Park (TNKJ) as one of the seven marine national parks is priority for marine management. Ecosystems that contribute a lot of indirect value is coral reef ecosystems. Its utilization for marine tourism activities has enormous potential but is also vulnerable to damage. Calculation of economic value is carried out as basic information on tourist willingness in terms of coral reef conservation through a Willingness to Donate (WTD) that it can be used as one of the inputs for sustainable management. The research was conducted in the main waters of the TNKJ marine tourism utilization zone in August-September 2017. Tourist data collection was carried out through structured questionnaire with 45 selected respondents. The results show tourists who use coral reef ecosystems snorkel as many as 4755 people peryear and 853 people dive peryear in an area of 886,302.7841 m2. The average WTD for snorkeling tourists is IDR206,250 and IDR87,500 for diving tourists. The total cost of rehabilitation of coral reefs per year is IDR1,055,356,250 per year. The resulting value can be used as a reference for the cost of repairing damaged ecosystems, responsible marine tourism activities and as an alternative priority incentive for coral reef conservation activities in TNKJ.
