Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of plyometric training on mawashi geri kick speed among junior kumite karate athletes at SESKO AU Lembang karate club. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 20 athletes selected through purposive sampling technique. The treatment, consisting of plyometric exercises converted into the mawashi geri kick movement pattern, was given for six weeks with a frequency of three times per week. Kick speed was measured using a video analysis-based test instrument (Kinovea application) before and after the treatment. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for hypothesis testing, and Cohen's d effect size calculation. The results showed that the average kick time decreased from 0.4465 seconds to 0.3738 seconds, with all samples (100%) experiencing an increase in speed. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of -3.921 and Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect, with Cohen's d = 1.14 (large category). These findings show that plyometric training is effective in increasing mawashi geri kick speed, and can therefore be recommended as part of a physical training program for junior kumite karate athletes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect mirror drill and ball drop drill training on the reaction speed of karate kumite athletes. This quantitative study employed an experimental method with a pre-test post-test two-group design. The sample consisted of 20 active kumite athletes from the Zenteka Karate Club Lembang Dojo, selected via purposive sampling. The samples were equally divided into two groups using the ordinal pairing technique to ensure equivalent baseline abilities: Group A (mirror drill training, n=10) and Group B (ball drop drill training, n=10). The training program was conducted for 6 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week. The reaction speed was measured using two instruments: the ruler drop test (ms) and a smartphone-based reaction speed measurement application (seconds). Data were analyzed using paired samples t-test and independent samples t-test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The paired samples t-test results showed a significant improvement in reaction speed for both instruments ($p = 0.000$). The mean score of the Ruler Test improved from 174.41 ± 16.70 ms to 153.07 ± 21.19 ms, while the Reaction Apps mean score improved from 3.180,65 ± 360 ms menjadi 3.009,95 ± 320 ms.± 0.32 seconds. The independent samples t-test on the gain scores indicated no significant difference in effectiveness between the two training groups ($p > 0.05$). This study concludes that mirror drill and ball drop drill training have an equivalent level of effectiveness in enhancing the reaction speed of karate kumite athletes. Keywords: mirror drill, ball drop drill, reaction speed, kumite, karate.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and determine the feasibility and implementation outcomes of SiKembar Gizi (Creative Synergy of Nutrition Learning Based on Pop-Up Book and GIZI GO) as a learning medium integrating nutrition literacy and students’ physical activity. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE development model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The product was validated by material and media experts and subsequently tested in small- and large-group trials before being implemented with 86 students at MIN 8 Bireuen, Nutrition literacy data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-Gain, paired-samples t-test, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, and Cohen’s dz, while physical activity was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that SiKembar Gizi obtained validation scores of 91.2% from the material expert and 94% from the media expert, both categorized as highly valid. Student responses reached 90.8% in the small-group trial and 94% in the large-group trial. Mean nutrition literacy scores increased from 58.60 to 86.40, with an N-Gain of 0.706 and p < 0.001. Furthermore, 94.2% of students were categorized as active or highly active. Therefore, SiKembar Gizi is feasible as a nutrition learning medium integrating physical activity. Keywords: Physical Activity, GIZI GO, Nutrition Literacy, Pop-Up Book, SiKembar Gizi, Students.
