Abstract

This research is about An Analysis of If Clause, A Case Study in Dan Browns The Lost Symbol and Its translation into Bahasa Indonesia by Inggrit Dwijani Nimpoeno. The purpose of this study was to identify some methods that is used by translator to translate if clause from English into Bahasa Indonesia and to describe translation techniques used by translator. The research method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. Applying Newmark translation method to identify the data which is drawn in a diagram called V diagram. In this translation, there are two emphasizes those are source and target languages. The research result shows that among 240 if clause found data present that translator use several methods such as word for word translation for 134 (55,84%) if clause data, free translation for 83 (34,58%) data, and literal translation for 23 (9,58%) data. The most used translation oriented to source language that is word for word translation.

Abstract

Satu fungsi bahasa dalam hidup manusia adalah menyampaikan pesan. Pesan yang disampaikan pemakai bahasa bermula dari awal pesan yang diikuti oleh pesan selanjutnya. Dalam tata bahasa titik awal pesan dikodekan oleh Tema yakni pesan yang menjadi tumpuan uraian pada pesan berikut di dalam satu klausa. Pesan berikutnya setelah Tema dikodekan oleh Rema. Tema dan rema dapat dikodekan oleh urutan (urutan pertama Tema dan urutan seterusnya Rema) dan pemarka. Tema dan Rema merupakan dua unsur penentu dalam pengembangan klausa menjadi teks atau wacana. Tulisan ini mengurai Tema dan Rema dalam bahasa dari perspektif linguistik sitemik fungsional yang bahasannya mencakup berbagai aspek.Kata Kunci: Tema, Rema

Abstract

The difficulties faced by students vary, such as intelligence and non-intelligence factors. This study is to know; (1) what the most difficult language skills, (2) the reasons of students at the difficulties in the language skills, and (3) how the students face their difficulties. The method of this study is descriptive, conducted in ILFS class of English and Translation Program at SAMSIFL (Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages) Uzbekistan. The result are listening (61.68), speaking (69.07), writing (71.89), and reading (76.29). Result of questionnaires; students like Indonesian language (85.71%), the Indonesian pronunciation (65.71%), symbols/letters is not different (80.00%), no difficulty in uttering Indonesian language words (77.14%), good and helpful guidance book (91.43%), speaker speaks fast (97.14%), difficulties in listening (94.29%), no difficulty in reading (85.71%), no difficulty in writing (80.00%), difficulty in speaking (71.43%), most liked language skills is reading (57.14%), most hated language skills is listening (94.29%), most difficult language skills is listening (88.57%), easiest language skills is reading (71.43%), and the students’ action facing the difficulties is asking the teacher (85.71%). It is expected that the ILFS teaching concerns on students’ difficulties firstly and give motivation during the teaching process.

Abstract

Abstrak :Pantun sebagai karya puisi lama masih tetap digemari sampai saat ini. Sebagai media penyampaian teks ia memuat pesan-pesan pembelajaran dan pernyataan sekaligus dihiasi dengan pilihan kata yang dikutip dari masyarakat lingkungannya sehari-hari. Pantun dapat menyampaikan apa saja. Dari panen padi yang menguning sampai peristiwa illegal loging. Namun, tak jarang juga para pemimpin kehilangan kultur wacana dalam kehidupan modern.KATA KUNCI: pantun, sastra lisan Nusantara

Abstract

This present, study focuses on the teacher talk in teaching writing which conducted in a eleventh grade classroom of SMK Swasta Teladan Medan and to describe how the categories teacher talk affect the students’ learning process during the teaching writing to the eleventh grade of SMK Swasta Teladan Medan. In this research, the FLINT is used to identify the categories of teacher talk occur during the learning process. Moreover, this study is conducted on the form of descriptive qualitative research where the researcher as the non-participant observer on the classroom. The subject of this study is a vocational high school English teacher and the eleventh graders of SMK Swasta Teladan Medan. From the data that has been taken, it is obtained that the categories of teacher talk used by the teacher in teaching writing interaction in the eleventh grader of SMK Swasta Teladan Medan are deals with feeling, praises or encourages, jokes, uses ideas of students, repeats students response verbatim, asks question, gives information, corrects without rejection, gives direction, and criticizes student behavior. More over the categories of teacher talk used also have been proven to help the students understand better about the subject and elicit students’ contribution during the learning process. In conclusion, the researcher has found that the teacher who teaches writing in an eleventh grade classroom of SMK Swasta Teladan Medan has performed some categories of the teacher talk from FLINT.

Abstract

A child does not suddenly have the first grammar in the brain, complete with all the rules. First language was obtained with several stages, and each subsequent stage nearer the grammar of adult language. This study aims to determine the system language acquisition of children aged 2.3 years to 2.6 years of age, especially those that include phonology, morphology, and syntax. The theory used in this study is the theory of language acquisition. The findings of the study, namely the age of 2.5 years, a normal child can already pronounce phonemes, and words are limited. At age 2.3 to 2.5 years, the words that were produced have started to grow and start of nouns and verbs. At the age of 2.5 years has been able to assemble simple words.

Abstract

This quantitative study aimed to determine the relationship between (1) the ability of teachers to teach Indonesian learning outcomes, (2) interactive communication and learning outcomes Indonesian, and (3) the ability of teachers to teach and interactive communications Indonesian learning outcomes. The study population was all students SMA South Rantau District Labuhanbatu the number of 242 students sample 40 randomly selected students based on class and two teachers. Variable data in this research is quantitative data in the form of teachers' teaching ability scores (X1), a score of interactive communication (X2), and a score of Indonesian learning outcomes (Y). Based on the results of multiple linear regression analysis and partial correlation showed a positive relationship between teachers' teaching ability and interactive communication with the Indonesian learning outcomes. It is seen from (1) multiple regression equation = -54.59 + 0.75 X1 + X2 0:53 linear, (2) the coefficients a1 and a2 significantly positive effect and multiple linear correlation coefficient = 0.94 is significant Ry12 with a contribution of 92%. Partially there is a positive relationship between the ability of teachers to teach Indonesian learning outcomes and there is a positive relationship between interactive communication with the Indonesian learning outcomes.

Abstract

Abstrak :Kajian ini adalah kajian tentang experiential meaning pada editorial salah satu harian terbesar di Sumatera Utara, Waspada. Ada tiga hal yang diamati dalam kajian ini, yakni kategori-kategori experience meaning apa saja digunakan dalam teks., kategori apa yang dominan muncul, dan konteks sosial apa yang melatari teks ini. Data di analisis dengan menerapkan teori Sistemic Fungtional Linguistics (SFL). Dari hasil pengamatan ditemukan 5 process, yaitu material, mental, relational, verbal, dan existenatial process, dan 4 circumstances: location, manner, accompaniment, dan role. Material process dan Circumstances of location muncul dengan persentase 33,90 % dan 75,75%. Dalam teks media cetak, biasanya process verbal yang lebih dominan, namun dalam teks ini process verbal justru muncul pada urutan kedua, dengan persentase 30,51. Hal ini terjadi karena text editorial merupakan opini dari editor terhadap suatu isu yang muncul di masyarakat, penulis tidak terlalu mengutamakan bentuk laporan yang terimplementasi dalam proses verbal, penulis lebih mengutamakan menyampaikan pendapatnya. Hal ini dapat dimaklumi karena editorial bukan bentuk laporan peristiwa sebagaimana yang terdapat pada teks berita .Kata Kunci: experiential meaning, tajuk rencana, teks
