Abstract

Reading is something that is very needed in our lives. By reading we will open the window of the world and if we can take wisdom from what we read, we will become a great and noble human being as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant influence using metacognitive strategies for students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts. This study used a t-test experiment involving each individual in Grade VIII of SMP NU Panunggalan consisting of 34 students. The results showed that the mean score of the pre-test yielded 40.2941 and the average post-test post-test yielded 92.3529. The mean deviation produces a value of 52.05882, standard deviation produces a value of 21.85065 and produces a t-test of 13.892. T-table 5 % shows the number 2.032 and t-table 1% shows the number 2.738. Then it can be concluded that 2.032<13.892>2.738. These results show significant results from the experiments on the effectiveness of metacognitive strategies on students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the seamless learning strategy in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery within an English language learning context. Seamless learning, characterized by the integration of formal and informal learning through mobile technology and online collaboration, offers continuous access to learning resources and supports personalized learning pathways. Employing a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test model, this research involved 30 junior high school students. Quantitative data were collected using vocabulary tests administered before and after the implementation of the seamless learning intervention. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary performance, with mean scores increasing from 52.00 in the pre-test to 82.67 in the post-test. A paired sample t-test analysis confirmed the statistical significance of this gain (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.000, p < 0.05). These results suggest that seamless learning effectively fosters vocabulary acquisition by promoting learner autonomy, motivation, collaboration, and contextual engagement. The study also discusses pedagogical implications and highlights the need for future research with larger samples, extended implementation periods, and qualitative analyses. Overall, the findings support the adoption of seamless learning as an innovative and impactful strategy for improving vocabulary instruction and language proficiency in 21st-century educational settings.

Abstract

This study investigated the significant differences based on teacher demographic variables in a mandatory teacher professional development (PD) program. The examined demographic variables are gender, age, academic qualification, years of teaching experience, employment status, and certification status. This information was measured through a well-developed questionnaire named the Targeted Professional Development Program. The study was conducted to 356 primary school teachers in Bima, Indonesia. Results showed that teacher perception of mandatory PD was only differed based on gender with t(354) = -1.87, p=.01. No significant differences were found pertaining teachers’ age, academic qualification, years of teaching experience, employment status, and certification status. Non-significant differences in mandatory PD perception based on teacher demography show that Indonesian mandatory PD has achieved its objectives in implementing a large-scale uniformed government PD program to support all Indonesian teachers. The only significant difference is shown through teachers’ gender, indicating that any improvement plan on future mandatory PD designs can commence by improving benefits for both male and female teachers
